Hey Hickok45 I have a mosin nagent and it’s my main rifle to go to for hunting big game .i can’t tell you how many moose I’ve shot and caribou with it . I happened to come across a rifle that was never issued .i picked up a composite stock for it and put a scope on it and what a nifty rifle . I have this rifle for over 35 years and the envy of some of my buddies I live in Kilbride Newfoundland and there are lots of big game practically at my door step . The rifle has all the serial numbers and they match . I like the carbine it is short and easy to carry and ammo is cheap and easy to obtain ,as I speak I have a moose in my deep freeze which supply most of my meat for the winter . If you never had moose burgers you don’t know what your missing . Keep those videos coming ,me and my friends never miss it and is the main conversation at my hunting camp . Thanks for the knowledge and insights into rifles .

I felt like an idiot when I cut 8" off an 1940 Tula.but at the time I had 7 of them.i took the worst one and turned into an carbine length rifle because they became very hard to find at a reasonable price.but I see alot of people are customizing longer Mosins.I really like them alot because of the firepower and ability to reach out and touch someone at a distance.

Talk about timing! My Local Gun Shop just received an "Un-issued" M44 with the Soviet Izhevsk markings with matching #'s including the Bayonet in Spectacular condition the day after your video posted! After watching this video I, of course, grabbed a copy of my C&R 03 FFL license and went back to the shop (Today) and bought the M44!! Well I have to say, it's a real keeper! It is a PW Arms Redmond, WA import and marked as such. I also picked up a case of Made in Russia by JSC "Tula Cartridge Works" 7,62x54R 148 GR. FMJ Steel Case Non-Corrosive Berdan Primed "Hunting Cartridges". Between this new M44 Carbine and my newly acquired K31, I am in Rifle heaven! No I have to load up on more ammo for each! Of course there's this itch I have to buy a Coach Gun after watching you Coach gun video that I need to scratch too, but that commentary I'll save for that video!

One thing you may not know about the M-91/59, since they were m-91/30 rifles cut down to carbine length, many of them suffer from poor accuracy because many 91/30 barrels were made with a gain twist that starts out slower at the breech end and faster at the muzzle end. and when they chopped the barrels to make 91/59's , the rifling pitch may not fully stabilize the bullet.
@nz540im32 жыл бұрын
Thats very interesting. A gun store here in New Zealand is selling ‘modded’ carbines that started out as 91/30s. I’m only interested for the history plus some plinking. Would you suggest they aren’t worth the trouble? A few years ago they sold 91/30s put together with reproduction PU sights. Wish I’d bought one now

I picked up a 1942, in cosmoline, with Soviet markings. I paid $100 for it. Its a friggin laser beam at 50 yards/iron sights. At 100 yards/iron sights, probably 95% accuracy. I love that rifle. Buddy offered me $300 for it and i laughed. The pinch hazard you mention with the bolt I eliminated with a Dremel tool. I shaved just a little corner there where it bit me, rounding it out. Now its super smooth and i don't bleed every time i go to the range.

O.K! Finally videos with old rifles, and revolvers, about the guns' history, craftmanship and accuracy. Instead of the videos about nothing but guns that are the weapons of choice of psychopaths. I subscribed because it takes me back to when I was earning marksmanship levels (sharpshooter bar 9) in junuor NRA and subscribed to American Rifleman, Guns, and Guns and Ammo magazines. This is what the NRA used ro be about.
@hickok456 жыл бұрын
They still are about that. With the anti-gun forces becoming so organized, strong, and large in numbers the last 30 or 40 years, the NRA HAD to adapt; otherwise, those "marksmanship" programs and such will definitely be a thing of the past, unless they are done with water guns or pretend guns. :-) First order of business is to make sure the Titanic stays afloat; then we'll worry about the dinner menu.

I bought a standard length Mosin for $5 from a pile on a table at sporting goods store around 1960. A friend who had shot President’s Hundred was able to twice group 3 successive rounds in an inch. He said it was more accurate than the AMU match M14s they used in competition. The M44 Ibhave will do 1.5”. I have read this is not that unusual.

Just a side note, as far as the iron sights and the elevation and Rain settings it might be nice to mention that they are set in what's called urchins! I'm not sure the spelling, but it's basically measured between I believe a five and six foot pace per urchin another words the pace of a grown man! Once I figured that out on my m44's citing the iron sights in was a dream! And if you look carefully without going into detail there is a left and right as I call it capability in the site adjustment! Word of warning do not attempt to adjust the front hooded sight you will just mess it up! Those who are informed I'm sure we'll go into detail on that mistake great video thank you bye

I remember one time that after firing 20 consecutive (5 rounds X4) rounds and I could no longer feel my right shoulder, I leaned back on my F-150 truck's tailgate and used the tailgate as a back stop, Ha-ha-ha. what a stupid mistake, it made a huge dent on the tailgate. Its kick is harder than my .303 Lee Enfield, K-98 Mauser. They're not very expensive so you can afford to buy a trunkful of Tylenol and Tiger balm for later. lol😖😖

They were deadly sharp shooters from the saddle my grand father tells me , they also were cut down for tank crews who had nothing else to use . At the beginning of the war a rifle was issued to two men , you had to wait for your buddy to get shot to get a rifle ,They were in short supply when hitler declared war on Russia . Just a little tidbit of info and of course I could be wrong . Thanks for your info I don't miss your videos .

I bought a M-44 Moisin Nagant Carbine back in the early " 'Oughts " when Shotgun News was selling them for $75.00 each. My computer repair shop in Houston, Tx was next door to A Gun Shop. The owner and I had a mutual assistance treaty just like Russia and Germany. I gave him great prices on computer stuff and he did the same for me with gun stuff. He ordered several M-44 Mosins from Shotgun News and i got one. I was surprised how accurate it was. If the German Mauser K-98 was a Mercedes then the Russian Mosin Nagant was a Tractor haha The other neat thing was if your space ship was knocked off course by a giant swirly thing in space and you land on a planet full of giants you could use the bayonet on your M-44 Moisin Nagant as a precision screwdriver.

I wonder how hesitant the soldiers were, who carried this rifle in battle, of firing it at night, or near dawn or dusk, due to the GIGANTIC muzzle flash on each shot. You'd be an easy target for anyone watching (aiming). But since I'd not be contemplating carrying it into battle, they are great rifles.
