Hi Friends! Hope you are having a great weekend. Here is a requested video on how to work the moss stitch in the round as a rectangle. I've added tips on how to avoid the jog line and skewing plus how to resize the rectangle. 💓 Please check the description box for a link to the calculation I used if you want to know more on resizing. x

I really like the way you go into the 4th chain to start and have the two chain stitches for the corner ready and waiting. I've been trying a pattern that goes into the second chain and recommends doubling up the yarn for the first complete round to make the blanket sturdy. By doing the entire corner at the end with double yard is very bulky so I am going to try this way next. Love the ...I think it is the half double crochet . Also, I am making a baby blanket so thanks for the dimensions. Will start with 20 chains! Thanks!

@PlayHookywithMe11 ай бұрын
@@evelyngonzalez8028 I’d recommend acrylic or cotton yarn because they are both machine washable. T-shirt yarn would be a great option as well. If it were me, I’d search a couple of patterns to see what is being recommended and see how it looks in photos. Jute’s a fun option as well but my only concern is the wear and tear on the hands . But Ive never tried before so I could be wrong on that. 💕

I’ve been using your continuous moss stitch square pattern for my Project Linus donation blankets, and decided to try the rectangle because of requests for blankets for older kids. In the square pattern, you don’t do a chain 1 after the hdc, but you do in this rectangle pattern. Any reason why, and could you omit it and do it the same way as the square version?
@PlayHookywithMeАй бұрын
There was no particular reason, I would recommend you do it however you like best ❤️
@cathymartin3379Ай бұрын
Ok just wondered, I tried it with the chain one and didn't like how it looked, so I started over and am doing it without, like you do in the square version, it's looking great! Our Project Linus chapter is getting more requests for blankets for older tweens and teens, so a rectangle is perfect for those! I liked the suggestion of a bigger hook, I’m using worsted that recommends a 6mm, I’m doing it with an 8mm and the drape is beautiful. Thank you again for a great pattern.

Good morning . A question, can I use that formula for other projects ( like a blanket ) or just for this one?
@PlayHookywithMe11 ай бұрын
That’s a really good question. Do you mean other type of stitches or just turning this moss stitch into a different sized rectangle? Everything is based on the size of the stitch you’re working with so you need to measure that first to then be able to determine the sizing and count for a project . So I think you can adapt it for other patterns but it will take some extra steps. I’d recommend testing on a small sample and seeing if the formulation translates well for you 👍🏻💕

I'm making your moss stitch square now and you say no ch 1 after the corner hdc when turning. For the rectangle you do use a ch 1 after the hdc when turning. I love your pattern just a bit confused 😊
@PlayHookywithMe8 ай бұрын
👋🏻 Hi . Great, I’m glad you are enjoying the patterns. Yes , I see on the ch1 . Remember in the square , I mention it’s completely optional. I omitted it because it helps to hide the seam line even more as you’re working. BUT , it’s absolutely not necessary. Usually I do a ch 1 and turn to give myself more wiggle room as you saw with the rectangle. In short, you decide 💕

I lost you at 9:38 seconds in. I don't know where to do the half double crochet. Put it into what single - where? I keep playing it over and over, but I'm missing something. It seems like there are two choices where to go and it looked like you went into the base of the stitch furthest to the left? Is that right? You put your thumb over where I was trying to see as you emphasized the corner again, but your thumb was hiding it. (Thanks anyway.)
@PlayHookywithMe6 ай бұрын
Ok, sorry about that. Remember the very first sc that you made to start the round ? Work your hdc in there.
@megandd17976 ай бұрын
@@PlayHookywithMe Ahhh! I'm just figuring that out now. It's the single crochet that you told us did not count as a stitch when we turned the corner and then made the single crochet. So, it looked like there were two single's... I'm not sure if I put the half-double in the exact right place but I got one made and it seems a bit wonky, but now that I'm understanding better and following along, maybe the next corner might be better. Thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate that. Trying not to be a perfectionist and tell myself I'm just learning and just starting out so I should be patient learning.

A 4’ x 5’ blanket is 48”x60”. I guess you did calculations based on 4’4” x 5’0” final size?
@PlayHookywithMe22 күн бұрын
You’re so right, it’s 48 . I should have clarified that it was a 4.4 ft x 5 ft blanket. I had looked up a standard throw size to do the equation which is 52 x 60 inches. But the math to figure out the chain is still correct. 👍🏻💕

@ I completely understand. I’ve seen another guide that says to take the difference between finished L & W in inches & make your starting chain that long. Every time I’ve tried it, it has worked, no matter what stitch pattern- but I haven’t tried many different stitches yet
