A million thanks for this great tutorial. Such an eye-opener! I just wanted to share a tip that worked very well for me. I started on a large rug (210x130 centimetres), and was planning to make it as one single moss-stitch rectangle using your method. However, as my rectangle increased in size, I noticed that the short sides tended to be a bit narrower than the overall width as measured across the middle. The difference was a good centimeter. It seemed that the corners were slightly too tight which caused tension. I ripped up the whole thing and started over, using the following workaround: Every other round, do the corners according to the video, i.e SC, CH2, SC in the 2-chain corner space. Every other round, SC2, CH2,SC2 in the 2-chain corner space. My corners are now a perfectly 90 degrees, and the width of my work is consistent all over. The extra bulk provided by the extra stitches in alternate rounds seems to compensate for the tightness of the regular rounds. I am using 4 strands of cotton yarn 8/4 and a 4.5 mm hook.

Love the double yarn tip for the foundation. And just before I found your video I was trying to calculate measurements for a rectangle. Question is will this formula work for any pattern? Specifically for block stitch. Thanks in advance
@TwistedYarns2 жыл бұрын
The formula will work for any pattern that goes around and around with the stitch pattern because you are adding equally on each side. The only difference between length and width is the initial measurement. Have fun! PS. The depth of the stitch itself will tell you in what increments each side will grow. Since the moss stitch is shallow, the pattern will grow about an inch in each direction each round using a #4 yarn. If you use a deeper stitch like a double crochet (3/4 to 1 inch deep or use a thicker yarn), you will grow 1.5 inches to 2 inches each round for width and for length. Happy Crocheting!

Well I found this video too late. I was already in about 4" from center when I realized it was getting wonky. I wasn't turning after each row. I also never knew about the double strand for the foundation chain. It always annoyed me that it would stretch out too much in the center because of the foundation chain. I was changing color at the corners so changing color was not a problem but I like your way better. After watching this, I decided to do it your way so I ripped out all my work and will start over. Thanks for the video! I did subscribe and will look forward to more of your videos!

Thank you for this!❤ Will you help me if how many foundation if the size of the bag is 5"x8" inches?🙏 Thank you in advance!
@TwistedYarns2 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course I will help, The difference between 8 and 5 is 3 inches. So the foundation chain needs to be 3 inches long. Makes sure to double the yarn for the foundation chain so you get a nice firm center for the rectangle. You would need to tell me how many stitches you get to the inch if you want the exact number of chains to start. Or at least tell me your hook size and what yarn you are using! 😊
@LeeBoco2 жыл бұрын
@@TwistedYarns I'm sorry, I entered the wrong size. Can you help me again? How many foundation chains do I need for the size of 15"X8" inches. The hook that I'm going to use is 3.5MM because that is the only hook I have, then the thickness of my yarn is 3ply/1.5mm TWISTED POLYPROPYLENE l if you are familiar with that yarn. Thank you so much in advance for helping as especially for newbies like me. By the way I'm from the philippines.😊❤
@TwistedYarns2 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the yarn but since a 3.5 mm hook is equivalent to an E -4 hook in the USA, the yarn should be either a fingering, baby weight or a light sport weight yarn. I think I can give you a pretty good estimate for exactly how many chains to start a 15 x 8 inch rectangle. You want to start by using a double strand of yarn for just the foundation chain. The chain should be an even number of stitches and should measure 7 inches (15-8=7) unstretched. Depending on the weight of the yarn you are using , I think it will 26, 28, 30 or 32 chians to start. So what I would do is chain 26 with a double strand and see if it makes 7 inches unstretched. If not, keep adding 2 more stitches and measuring until you get the 7 inches. I hope that helps! Let me know.
@LeeBoco2 жыл бұрын
@@TwistedYarns Hello! Yes I did this!😊 I just followed what you said earlier the diff between 5x8 is 3, which is 3inches. I just did 7inches foundation chains for 15"x8" and I got the exact size!😍 Thank you so much for the advice. I owe you for this. Looking forward for your other tuts!❤ I hope you try to do baby dress as well as their sizes.😊

I am having trouble keeping the turning point for the round next to the corner. Instead, it works perpendicular to the foundation row. I'm not switching colors, but using a self-striping yarn, so by the time I get a few rounds done, there is a bit of a noticeable line where I make the turns. Is there a way to keep the turning point next to the corner without cutting the yarn?
