My grandfather gave me a Mossberg 144LS Target Rifle for my 14th birthday. It came with a Lyman Peep Sight still in the box, while it was scoped with a 4X Mossberg scope. It has a bull barrel, and it will drive tacks at 100 yds. I Believe the rifle came from the CMP. It came with an Army Technical Manual.

Very nice. Interesting story. I think the history, the provenance, is so important for things like that. Back in the mid-80s I bought a German 98k from a guy who had taken the entire gun apart because the stock had broken at the pistol grip. All parts matching numbers. It was manufactured in Germany in 1942 and was captured in North Africa in '43. I got it for $25. Bought a replacement stock (orig German surplus) from Numrich Arms. I think I saw an ad for their catalog in Popular Mechanics or someplace like that. ... A few days later I bought the bayonet & scabbard from the same guy, near-mint condition for another 25 bucks. Good ol' Numrich, right!?

Great story, thanks for sharing. Yes, definitely, I still use one of their old catalogs just for the exploded views, they have a lot of models my gunsmithing books don’t have. I converted a large ring Mauser 98 to .308 and did a lot of work on it, gave it to a friend of mine and he claims it to be those most accurate one he owns but he may be biased! Thanks for watching!
