Mossberg 835 Turkey Pattern Part 2

When I shot an 835, my factory choke shot great with Winchester Deluxe turkey loads. I had a series of misses that were my fault. However, I sold the gun because I just lost confidence in it. That was all before LBXR’s came out. Seems like that factory choke would have done better than that in that gun.

Two hints try really scrubbing your barrel when you clean it. Spray solvent In first, give it at least one hundred passes thru. Repeat with either hoppes number 9 or rem oil and repeat with at least another hundred passes. After that run a patch thru. If it's still excessively dirty give it more oil and a hundred more strokes with the brush. Cleaning it like this will make your barrel slick as hell and will make patterns a little better a dozen to two more dozen pellets could be expected. Second try a new aftermarket choke tighter than you have now, I run an indian creek black diamond strike in .675 constriction. I average 150 to 160 in a ten inch at 44 yards. Hope this helps

Yup. Old timer trick I had picked up. Less friction going thru keeps the pellets more round and they stay truer to the original flight path out of the barrel. If you can keep 100 pellets in a 10 inch circle at 40, that's a damn good standard to keep. Also remember the 835s barrel is over bored to 10 gauge dimensions. Once you figure out a choke and load that model likes nothing beats it. Mossy 835s are THE Turkey gun. Best of luck to ya

you def don't need a different choke, those Mossberg .670 factory chokes are just as good or better than any after market choke, I have 5 or 6 different after market chokes and none are any better. the longboards are where its at....unless you want to pay $10 a shell... I sure don't, lol.

It was never the choke. Both those loads are crap, what you need is federal TSS loads, that'll make her a 60 yard gun for sure

The aluminum receiver makes the gun have a completely different feel than my 870. Interesting difference.

Federal TSS does much better and Apex even better. My 835 has a code black turkey .665 choke and longbeard xr #4 at 35 yards puts 100 plus pellets in the 5 inch circle. So after figuring out what is what on these guns and they are great performers

Any patterning video less than 3 years old not using TSS is a waste of time! Not using TSS for turkeys is like going to a strip club and wearing a blindfold. It just doesn’t make any sense!
