Stunning watch. I bought this watch to celebrate my PhD graduation a couple months ago. I love the late-60s styling, hi-beat movement, high quality finishing overall, and comfortable bracelet. It is also extremely accurate for a proper mechanical movement (spring drives are disqualified here). It sits proudly next to my Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial (Heritage) in the watch box every night.

Love the look of this Longines Ultra Chron and I love the movement inside. However, I find the watch too be large (as are most watches these days) for my tastes. I currently wear a Blue Bay 58 as my daily and it is super accurate, running at -0.5 sec per day

This would be the perfect watch if only the second hand had a lume pip and the hour hand stood out more. I love that red minute hand but the hour hand disappears under certain lighting conditions.

Why doesn't Longines roll out this movement across ALL of their watch range?
@LIONTAMER3D10 ай бұрын
It's a heavy movement requiring a large case
@neil47012 жыл бұрын
The resurrection of the 36,000bph Ultra Chron is really very exciting - but I hope that Longines have plans to put it in a proper watch as well as this 43mm monster! It seems that the new L836.6 movement is 25.6mm in diameter, the same as the old 431, so it could easily go into a nice 35mm retro piece styled along the lines of the Heritage Conquest. Incidentally, why do watch reviews never show us the movements? Easy enough to take the caseback off to have a look. A quick search online finds no images of this movement actually in the watch, which is just weird.
@tancreddehauteville764 Жыл бұрын
43mm is not a 'monster'. I have a 48mm Invicta that is closer to a 'monster' - for a diver, 43mm is the norm. Why would you want to see the goddamn movement? All you need to know is that it works well, and it does!
@neil4701 Жыл бұрын
@@tancreddehauteville764 You obviously have utterly different requirements from a watch than I do.. 43mm might not be monster-size for a diver, but I don't dive (I'm going to guess that most people buying this watch don't either), and it's certainly too big for everyday wear unless you have a larger-than-average wrist size. And 75% of my reason for wanting any watch is because of attributes of the movement. That's *the point* of any mechanical watch. Obviously if I just wanted something that worked I'd wear a quartz watch.
@notdaven3198 Жыл бұрын
@@tancreddehauteville764bro u hav an invicta, ur opinion is already moot
@bigv99829 ай бұрын
The original one was 41mm so I don't think longines will make a 35mm version but they might just do a 41mm version with a date at 3 o'clock just like the original one 👍
@neil47019 ай бұрын
@@bigv9982 The Ultra-Chron was originally a whole range of watches based on the 431 movement, only one of which was a diver. Most of them were around 35mm (although even the non-divers ranged from 34 to 37mm). What I'm suggesting is that if Longines have gone to the trouble of resurrecting the 36,000 Ultra-Chron range with this dive watch, they could also put the new high beat movement in a much wider range of Ultra-Chrons, as was the case with the original.

Very nice watch and very accurate for a mechanical. But I reckon if you are looking for a super accurate mechanical watch look for pre-owned Spring Drive from Grand Seiko which will be about the same price as this. I have the Grand Seiko SBGA229 which runs around +0.1 second per day when tested over a couple of weeks. Supremely accurate and the finishing of the GS is amazing. Good review, thanks.
@tancreddehauteville764 Жыл бұрын
The GS is MUCH more expensive, for sure. Almost twice as much as the Longines.

@bg1887127 күн бұрын
A high-beat movement is not necessarily more accurate or precise. It just has a higher resolution, meaning it can measure smaller increments of time. Accuracy depends on how well a watch is regulated. and precision depends on how well it holds the regulation across positions and over time.

Awesome specs and history indeed, but the look is not for me personally. Since i use all my watches for work in the office, having a date at a glance is very very useful. Also, as of now in my watch collecting journey, i only really like blue and black on my dials. Red is not attractive to me. Yet. More power to you and your channel. I love how informative it is and features modern and upcoming timepieces. Since i prefer modern models over vintage. 🥰
