We have the same prison programs here in the US where prisoners train eyesight dogs for the blind and such. I’ve worked with several prisoners who do the job, and I can’t tell you the pride they have in doing so. It’s a way to give back and make amends to the community they’ve harmed and hopefully encourage them to stay on the straight path going forward. It lowers recidivism rates and provides a much needed public service. They’ll get photos of the person matched with the dog they trained once they’re placed and they pin them to their cell walls to remind them of the good work they’ve done. It’s truly beautiful and also heartbreaking at the same time because the dogs spend every second with the prisoner until it’s time to be placed. Seeing a big bad grown man crying as he says goodbye to his only friend will break anyone’s heart, but they know it’s for the greater good. I’ve worked with thousands of prisoners and only a rare few have ever been truly “bad” people. Most people just made bad decisions and need a second chance to prove themselves, and the service training dog programs do exactly that. Good for you all for providing this much needed service to the community ❤

Gosh it reminds me of my dog pitbull. My dad found her in the forest with my brother and brought her home. She got pregnant from the stary dog that was wandering around streets and she had 16 puppies. My father (who’s a car mechanic/diagnosis) was the one to help her deliver puppies thought all night, the miracle was that only 2 puppies didn’t make it that night. Now she’s not here with us anymore and her puppies are 15 year old by now. She was a rescue because the person who abandoned her was in prison and she was supposed to be in dog fights. She had good life with us. She deserved all the best in world.

Thank you so much, Dr. Chris, for stressing that there are too many puppies that no one wants are being born. Just have them de-sexed. Our son has a female that got out and got pregnant. He had not been able to work for some time, so I took care of the financial part of the puppies. They are all de-sexed, all have their shots, and all are microchipped. I felt I at least did something to keep down the amount of unwanted puppies being born. After all, there were 3 males and 2 females. As you know a male can produce a LOT of puppies in the lifetime, and females can produce a lot as well. Even the mother got the full treatment. So, thanks!

Sadly she was the one who didn’t make it after over an hour of resuscitation but her brothers made it and have been passed on to lovely families. I think of her from time and time, if she had survived I would’ve named her Destiny after Destiny’s child’s song “survivor”, but even if she didn’t survive here, she’s living on in our memories.

I don't understand why more of the pets have not been neutered/spayed. There are so many animals that need homes this seems to be irresponsible. So many of the clients seem to be surprised when their pets become pregnant. I like these BondiVet programs overall.
@christinekillen38529 ай бұрын
I agree with you
@piahyer80238 ай бұрын
It's often a case of finances. In many countries being neutered and spayed is expensive. Unfortunately, because it is a more extensive surgery spaying a female is more expensive than neutering a male. You could argue that people shouldn't have animals if they can't spay/neuter etc. but in my opinion pets are great for our mental health etc. so I believe that basic things such as spay and neuter should be offered at reduced price to people who can only pay a little.
@dalehoward54168 ай бұрын

Quite some time ago, our Labrador named Lady gave birth to a litter of pups. She was a few years old back then, and my grandparents bought her for my uncle, who at the time was still recovering after an accident that caused severe brain damage. He loved her so much, and she's was always an amazing dog. Saved my grandmother after her sugar dropped while she was out, was never aggressive, and acted almost like a human would. I don't exactly how many pups she had, must've been around 10, but some of them didn't survive the birth. The other thing was, and idk how that even happened, but she laid on about 2 or 3 of her puppies, suffocating them. On different occasions. In the end, only 2 or 3 survived, and were passed on to families. Lady is now about 12 years old.

I am sad but not shocked that she lost 50%. I am all for ethical breeding and making sure there are healthy, well tempered, predictable dogs out there. So not breeding on mixes or brachy-breeds or other dogs with health issues - but I don't think I could go throught it myself. I want another Leonberger, and will do whatever I can to make sure he or she never gets unplanned (or even planned) puppies.

Reasons someone may not spay/neuter their pup -money/funds -wants to breed them later in life, but not young. Typically separate male and female of this is the reason, but dogs can escape -some dog breeds require the dog to go through one full heat/whatever it's called for the males before they can be spayed neutered, or else there's a chance of the dog not fully developing or the surgery not working. Same thing for some cats too.
