You don’t know how excited I am for this. I have learned to sponge everything and anything in these conversations even if it’s not applicable to my work, it’s good to be comfortable with and understand! You (Tom) said it once and it stuck with me; I just LOVE listening two passionate professionals talk about what they love. I’ve never been this kind of fiend for knowledge. Y’all have shown the ones like me that this is no longer a hobby. It can be a career if you bust your ass enough. You’re loving proof. I appreciate you Tom.

GREAT discussion on e-collar training. I get comments about the herm prong collar all the time. Watched Mr Davis’ videos on how to use the prong collar. My out of control re-homed GSD, in 5-10 minutes, became happier. She now 5 months later, is on a loose leash 99% of the time. She’s 100% happier and more confident, not to mention a love muffin. People don’t realize ANYTHING can be abused. Our dog was totally neglected by being in a crate most of the day. Yes, a crate can be mis-used! Thank you gentlemen for the content you put out. Mr. Davis, you have changed my life and more importantly my dog’s life!

As someone who has been working animals for nearly two decades, these podcasts are so cathartic for me to listen to. It’s like, someone else gets it! The imposter syndrome, the guilt, the wanting to help and getting burnt but refusing to give up, the drive to help the animals that keeps us going through it all… the list goes on and on. I don’t talk to people in my real life about my job and my work because they just don’t get it. There’s so much more that goes into working with dogs than what people see and assume is on the surface. You guys get it. This episode felt like a therapy session. Keep putting out that great content!

Hey thanks Tom! this was a real lesson in gratitude. I'm just a pet dog owner with a growing obsession for training. I get up, walk my senior dog in the forest then take my 1yr gsp out to train at retrieves, sit stays etc and generally have awesome adventures. I work, we train again at lunch and again in the evening. Every day. I'm so grateful for the time I get to spend with my dogs. Listening to how you're both sacrificing so much of your lives to improve the lives of other dogs and their owners makes me feel truly grateful for what I have. Your content and that of other great trainers is essential in developing my learning. Thank you so much.

Maybe the solution could be you have dog trainers that are certified by the state to train people on proper e collar use. Then the person would receive a certificate allowing them to use it. Just a suggestion. I think it is a great tool in the right hands and terrible in the wrong. Definitely should not be banned completely

@tomdavisofficial Sadly, I know of a case in my area where a mastiff ended up killing a Maltese unintentionally. The Maltese was unleashed and left the front lawn of its property to charge and bark at a woman walking her mastiff and husky perfectly side by side. From what I heard, the mastiff apparently just reached down, grabbed the Maltese by the collar and flung it casually back onto its front lawn where it died as it hit the ground from its neck snapping in mid-air. I never heard what happened after that but the owner of the mastiff was definitely not at fault because her dogs were leashed and walking calmly when they were charged.

My male Rottweiler, who was my self-trained and certified PTSD service dog, was wonderful and had a good sense of humor as well. And he was a true Houdini. Once when I went into a store, I had to tie him up infront of the store. When I came back outside, he still st there in the same position sitting there, but had the leash all folded up and held it in his mouth, while wagging his tail. He had an audience, people were laughing at him. He generally was faster with his obedience without leash or collar. I'm happy that my youngest son and his family moved last year to a very remote area and their kids can grow up in a so much healthier environment there, just like my children could. 😊

Hey Tom and Larry. Thank you so much for your content, helping us so much with our dog. On the e-collar topic (abusing, banning), I think you make a great point, it is a tool that can be used to change a dog's life and give them freedom, safely, in a way that would otherwise not be possible (when used/introduced properly). Yet it can be used very poorly (much like any tools) and really mess a dog up. Would a good alternative to banning be to require some sort of licence in order to use such a tool? Basically requiring anyone buying one to go through some sort of basic training with a professional before they can buy/use one legally. Thank you again for all your content and keep up the great work!

Talking about not watching negative content is so real. I love my area and explore it adventuring with my dog. I see tons of others out adventuring with their dogs as well. I love Mastiffs. I was keen get mine after years with family dogs in the early 2000's internet boom. Met a breeder and saw a litter and met two cane corso he had personally imported to breed next. Next dog for me was a corso. Then instagram and social media exploded. Everything for image, every one posing for the quick buck, never expected any soul to capture dogs into that kinda of mess. Worse than circus era animal abuse is social media spurned animal fads.

Thank you for this talk Talking about modifying epigenetics i think more than the other half to food is behavior/relalasionship of the dog with the owner. If their relationship is relaxed, without different stress situations, full of trust and respectful (from the perspective of the Dog) and the dog is a real part of a team, this influences a lot the microbiom, hormones, immune system of both, dogs and owners. Also the other way around makes sense: a full diet for dogs (and humans) adapted to their circumstances influences the metabolism, hormones and behavior of the dog and humans and therefore their relationship. My third Dutchy i picked (in the age of 7m) with severe ear infection "cured" with cortisone in a real stressfull sotiation in the shelter smashed totally bad his immune system. Not only the ear infection became chronic, also he enveloped "allergic reaction" to .... uncountable foods, different insects... the kibbel made his poop looking perfekt for a vets perspective, but..... knowing from my two Dutchies before - he was in a constant stage of feeling not really hungry and not satiated. Of course this made him all time looking "high drive" .... Switched slowly to raw fresh (not frozen before!) meat, soft cooked eggs, organ meats , fish, cheese and other milk products for snacks, beef fat and butter, sometimes some berries, a smal peace of apple, orange or carrot..no starchy food... but main part of calories covered with fat After 24 hours he started to calm down, started to be focussed and almost no fear and no crazy pseudo high drive The allergies all disapeared in weeks This poor guy before was trapped between never feeling fully satisfied and comfortly stuffed and never really hungry, enveloped therefore over drinking water with the result of a constant overfilled bladder couldn't keep his pee - huge amounts of poop couldn't control it in more stressfull situations, were "punished" for that from the first handler just by words and mood (not willingly, but this dog is incredible sensible for microaggression in humans) and had to be cut from the education and training for a service police dog despite his amazing multiple skills... So sad... I'm a vet from Germany and we have nowadays the same problem with vets, kibble and knowledge about dog/cat food, but....i never changed my feeding rules i learned from my Grandpa, farmers and hunters This connection between behavior and kibble seems to be shown also in the growing numbers of dog trainers/behaviorists...the reason why so many dogs enveloped behavior issues is what makes the puppies feel fed by kibble during education/training since the first day. Also fills the income of vets and pharma.. It was never my goal becoming a vet curing results of kibble feeding My main job now is calming the owners down, educating them to eat more healthy themselves, so they can share their food with their dogs like it has been since thousands of years and enjoying their successful journey to become a relaxed, strong and sovereign team Problem with raw diets are mostly the hygenic part with frozen meat fed just thawed to room temperature Second problem mostly is too high protein and too less fat Instead of feeding some weird fiber of "healthy" plants i feed !fresh! different parts of the ruminant stomachs "green" for a healthy microbiom, also joghurt and different raw milk cheeses are fine. Never saw a dog not loving to eat that ...

I think something to consider about the e-collar because of it being banned is if you want to own one you have to go through thorough training and get a certificate or license of some kind. I don’t think they should just be banned but some people shouldn’t use one. I think that would help the issue.
