This is probably standard in the simpler ecosystems, but rare in the more complex versions. Reasoning, in order for complex life to get started it had to undergo multiple near extinction events to put pressure on collaboration of single cell life to survive. Leading eventually to the cells becoming one life form instead of 2 or more single cell. Those events would put pressure on finding alternative food sources which is why we have green plants.

A minor technical clarification: there is no "purple light", as such. Our minds interpret red/blue mix as purple. Since the green gets absorbed, we are left with red/blue waves entering our eyes that are subjectively experienced as purple. So, what astronomers would be looking for is not "purple" as such (although it could appear purple if we could have an optical telescope powerful enough to resolve the disc of a planet at interstellar distances). They'd study the spectrum for the proper ratios of red/blue.

Next question: Can purple planets support multicellular, more complex life?
@naamadossantossilva47368 ай бұрын
No.Multicelular complex life can only happen with oxygen,which they do not produce.
@alcor46708 ай бұрын
@@naamadossantossilva4736 I thought so too at first. But if an oxygen-dominant Earth can still harbor anaerobic life, the inverse can also be true: with pockets of oxygen-rich areas in caves or chambers in a planet dominated by CO2 or other gasses. It also wouldn't be impossible for single-celled organisms in such a place to have organelles that're absolutely alien to us, creating its own O2. Most life on Earth didn't produce as much energy now before mitochondria came in and set up shop in our own very distant ancestors. Similar relationships could form in alien life attempting to adapt and thrive in a very different environment. Such life could find ways to come together to create colonies out of differing species or genera, and eventually create multicellular creatures the same way Earth did. In any case, it'd be _very_ interesting to see what we can learn about them -- once we actually *find* alien life.
