Love the movie recs. I watch one horror a day from mid September through Halloween day (on which I watch back to back); so recommendations are always appreciated. I loved Monster Squad as a kid. We had it on VHS too, Yutaka! I haven't seen it since I was high school aged, so about 17 years. 😅

Always glad to see an upload! I could not understand George on the Descent pick. "I mean yeah her daughter died...", "no wonder your husband cheated, you're miserable...". George out here victim blaming. Her sadness AFTER her daughter and husband both died violently, cannot be a note that she was an unpleasant person or that anything supports someone cheating on you. Oh George, no no no. Yes, there are good and bad miserable protagonists. Good are justifiable or a product of the horror. Bad are people who aren't motivated at all and prolong the misery and share it. Sarah was trying to heal and have fun despite a horrific thing with a group of friends wanting to help. In Midsommar she did unfortunately place herself in a group with no real purpose other than distraction. So while I can like Midsommar, her approach to her tragedy is more so dragging it out and spreading it. Although that's also part of the message of cults seeking those people.

George is mixing something up though. Laurie never abandoned her daughter, these are two different timelines. The one with little Jamie, Laurie is actually dead. The one with Laurie faking her death (H20) Jamie never existed. H20 directly follows Halloween 1+2. It can be confusing with all the timelines.

*I know you guys don't care about this, but when I saw Freddy Vs Jason at the movie theaters, and somewhere in the movie Kelly Rowland said the F slur and the whole audience laughed, that really made me uncomfortable as a closeted gay teenager. So when she said that, I was like "okay she has to go!". I don't know if it was in the script or if Kelly Rowland came up with it herself, either way, it was so unnecessary. Throughout every Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St movies, none of them have ever used the F slur, which is surprising because most of those movies came out in the 80s during the AIDS crisis where homophobia was more rampant. And Kelly Rowland had to go and ruin it. I know you guys don't see this as an issue (which baffles me), but that alone just made her really annoying and unlikable so fast.*

Most annoying characters in horror… I mean that abortion from The Babadook is a given right? Other than that, I really REALLY loathed the old man doctor in Arachnophobia. Jeff Daniels uprooted his entire life to move to a small town to be the new doctor only for this old prune to go “nah never mind jk” on him? And then turned the town against him by blaming him for the deaths? Oh NO sir I’m glad that spider did you in. I hate a stubborn doctor in horror. Zavid, yes, Miss Carmonde should have been cast correctly. She should have been played by an old, haggard, crazy local type...as she was in the story. Her being cast as pretty, young, unblemished christian woman really bothered me the entire movie. Very overwhelming in a bad way. I also believe Dani in Midsommar is way too emotional. I get it, she's supposed to be. Florence is known for her emotional acting on que. The director knew this, and had her turn it up to 11 the whole movie. Too much.

I have to say the character I hated the most was the daughter in a quiet place it was all her fault every situation that they got put in was because of her because she wouldn't listen granted she was deaf but she knew exactly what she was doing and she knew she should have stayed put.
