I've seen predictions over the years of Rondo, Westbrook or Rubio breaking this record and so far it still stands. Passing is something NBA guards today don't specialize in and most are the Kyrie Irving-types instead of the John Stockton-types. Not to mention there's less ball possessions and lower percentage shot selection compared to the 1980s and 1990s. Does not matter how much more advanced 3PT shooting has become, it's still a lower percentage shot compared to a layup, dunk or mid-range 2. I also have noticed in the last few years how much more lenient they're tracking assists, like the pass receiver can make a ball fake and as many as 3 dribbles from the 3PT line towards a short jumper, layup, floater or dunk. Used to be receiving the pass and shoot or take 1 dribble then shoot as the mandatory requirement. No wonder the number of triple doubles have skyrocketed.
