Great job. Looking forward to part 2. The heavy backpack will always catch up and punish you before the day is over.

Thanks for this. I recognize that without you packing around your camera equipment, and without you doing all the double-walking back and forth, I wouldn't have a hike/climb video to watch and enjoy. I appreciate your work. When I had read Dave & Darlene's facebook post about this trip, I was intrigued. I knew that I'd eventually see your video on this adventure, so I was patient, and the wait was worth it. I look forward to the next episode.

Thanks Mike, ya it was a bit of a doozy. I made a bunch of mistakes and just some misalignments. I upgraded to a heavier camera setup for better quality but I hike slower with it which is much more straining on my body. Things spiraled out of control.

Seriously incredible production quality, incredible views, and powerful story. I’m definitely going to have to check out this area in the future. Sounds like a very hard day of work, but I know for sure it’s worth it in the end. The ending has me a bit worried!

Great video! I've been eyeing up that mountain every time I drive by, knowing there's an old trail there. Nice to know more about it. I did Wesly and Horne in the same day around the same time you filmed this hike. I only had 3 liters of water, not enough snacks/breaks, and overheated. Even at home afterwards it was difficult cooling down and felt exhausted. I appreciate you're honesty in you're videos. Looking forward to the trail fail series!

It was brutal hot that day, hottest day of hiking I've experienced. 3 liters is usually more than enough but in that weather it doesn't even come close.

Recently did one near my hometown that was almost 1100m vertical over just over 6k. Brutal but worth it for the view

Awesome stuff, I love it🌳🌲💚, just out of curiosity, what's the likelihood of encountering bears when hiking/running in that particular area? Best wishes!

Always feel that the area near Kennedy lake is a mystery on the island - not so much have been widely explored. Thanks for sharing.
@IdRatherBeHiking2 жыл бұрын
There are so many peaks around there and most of them aren't logged which is a major draw to the area.

Great work! 😅I was inspired to hike the climber's trail by those same blog posts. I scraped together all the info I could, and tried a solo slog up the trail in summer 2021, right after the heat dome. It's funny watching this video; I made the same mistake not crossing the creek as your group, and probably spent 45 minutes crawling up and down the wrong mountain, lol. Nearing the top, I turned around probably 150m of elevation below the lookout (~1100m above sea level), because I was so drained by the hike up. What a grind. It's one of the most relentless trails I've been on, but the view is one of a kind. I'm very cautiously considering going back up next summer, but I really need to up my fitness for that, haha
@IdRatherBeHiking2 жыл бұрын
Crazy right? That is basically not a hike but a climb. I figured out that path that goes the wrong way goes up to that unnamed lake so I'll probably go back to check that out. I think some mountain running is needed to train for this plus a very light pack. Running up the local lookout in port alberni or running on the stairmaster at the gym. For me I figured out recently I'm allergic to bread after getting covid which saps my energy big time which is what I ate just before this hike. That's too bad you didn't make it to the upper bowl, sounds like you made it to the lower bowl but best to turn around and keep it safe, espcially solo. I'd never do this again in that heat, 20-25 degrees tops.

I had thrashes like this one before though probably not with as much elevation gain, often done in shorts which have left my legs cut and bleeding. Glad that you have changed your perspective on fear and are using it as motivation.
@IdRatherBeHiking2 жыл бұрын
I think zip off pants are the way to go, can always add the bottoms for the bush then take them off. Fear can be crippling and needs to be used for good.
