Pretty sure the diamond formation is just the game sucking. One of the problems with diamond formation is that, as you maneuver you can get automatically switched out especially if you turn the unit around an obstacle. I think the player wanted to charge in diamond formation, it got disrupted, and then they turned it back on as soon as they realized the issue. Truth is, diamond formation socks, not point in using it except if you are able to do a fully set up Rohirrim charge with a shock cav unit.
