I was the same way for awhile, just use an HB pencil or so, then use a 6B pencil to out line it, then… I discovered how an 5h, 6H, or a 2h pencil would be ideal for getting the base done for the drawing, then use a B pencil for our line, 4H for skin or hair, F for shadows in hair, H for shadows on cloths, 3H for light parts of hair, 2h for light parts of cloths. (B stands for Black and H stands for Highlights) That’s what I’ve been told.

Sometimes I will hatch lines... BUT... I keep them whisper light... almost not visible... while I do some shape guesswork at times. Then... as you show... trace over it when you know what you are going for. Then when I erase it is super easy to clean because the guess lines were very light. Great video overall.

This video is talking about what it is that you admire in life, what is that you want to do, and put a lot of effort into perfecting it and motivate yourself and most importantly enjoy it don't just do it because you have to but because you love to, it makes you happy, calm, relaxed, and worry free. I'm not yet good at drawing but I know I will get better because it makes me feel happy and every time i excel I feel like I just made it thru one level and I just got wings. I know I'm not the only one so to a whole lot of us out there let's do what makes us happy and one day we will find the real reason we actually draw. Thnx Marcel ❤❤❤❤

Honestly thanks for the videos. I've always wanted to be able to draw but have no natrual talent for it. Took art in highschool and a tech art course in college for 3D animation. I always hated my work and that I couldnt draw a character to look good at all. But I've decided to get a sketch book and some mechanical pencils and just draw and try to improve. Idk if im improving yet but the videos help, the reminder to constantly practice, to have confidence. I will hopefully get over my easy frustration and start showing some improvements.

Drawing Mistake 5 hits so close to home, I always just tell myself to follow through your "mistakes" because every artwork and drawing have stages, layers and finishing touches etc. Liron Yanconsky gave a great advise for this, it's that you must embrace the "ugly" stage of your artwork because it's simply a process and not the product, this is also where the "Trust the process" quote comes in, you simply need to believe in yourself.
@yopomdpin6285 Жыл бұрын
I will never understand this "trust the process" thing honestly. Like... There's so much more variable in and out of hand that will impact the final result, "trusting the process" feels a lot like "just pray"

A point for mistake 1 is usually that most people dont know about linework, in my first few months learning to draw again i couldn't figure out what was wrong i just knew there was a feeling that something was off, later recently i discovered line work was a topic and almost immediately all of my sketches improved. Confident lines, planning how to draw the curves (intuitively of course), and taking my time with making the quality of my lines better just helps a lot. I still do like sketch hairs every now and then but i try to do more consistent and confident lines.

I'm so harsh on myself that I'm scared to make art. Despite being female being told to "grow some balls" was surprisingly inspiring 🤣 Any tips on how to fake the confidence?
@julianblake8385 Жыл бұрын
My dear, there is no secret formula for confidence. Maybe you will never feel totally confident, but what you need to develop is experience and discipline. Experience will give you confidence. So just start. Just do it. Put an hour or two every day, or every time you can. I struggle with confidence a lot, but I replaced it with discipline. By watching these videos and the Proko channel, I have improved. Well, not by watching. By watching, taking notes, and actually doing the drawings and exercises myself. I was really intimidated at the beginning, but I have improved a lot just by drawing more and more often. Many drawings turn bad or wrong. I just sit down and do them again until they are right. Don't get too attached to the result, but to the process. I don't really care about confidence anymore. I care about discipline, and the results are showing. Just sit down and draw, draw, draw. You'll get better, I promise!

Something else with thick lines as opposed to messy lines (the stomach on that one girl's side view was messy, not thick, for example), is ink thicker as well. I have the arm stability of a muskrat on caffeine, and going over them two or three times makes them look a bit better depending on where the line is. This mostly works with exterior lines, interior lines needed to be thinner just due to aesthetic reasons.

When I was younger I used to dream of becoming an artist, going to art school, that kind of stuff. I didn't really know what I was doing and I have a hard time focusing and understanding some of the videos I watched, but I wasn't giving up yet. One time though, during our art class I made a painting (we were instructed to paint one of the photos presented to us). It wasn't really good but it was good enough for a first try that my classmates were a bit impressed. So when my History teacher asked for volunteers for the poster making contests, my classmates suggested me but I declined so they backed off but my teacher was persistent and still added me despite my protests. We used oil pastels, markers, pencils, etc. during the poster making. I wasn't good with those, the only reason why the painting I made looked as good as it did was because it didn't have a lot of details, so basically colouring. I knew I was going to suck hard at the poster making, it's why I didn't want to join and I was right, I couldn't focus or draw what was needed to be drawn. I barely contributed and I was so embarrassed and ashamed. My partner thankfully didn't ridicule me nor did he tell our classmates my utter failure. I feel so ashamed and frustrated whether someone says I'm good at drawing because I wasn't, not yet. And I supposed that's where I started comparing myself to other people, how good they were and how bad I was, which was wrong because they had years of experience ahead of me, I know that now but I didn't back then. I got discouraged and basically dropped learning how to be better and only creating simple paintings that looks, quite frankly, pathetic. I only picked up the desire to learn how to draw recently and well... they're not good, not yet, but I'm trying and learning, and I can see that I am improving. Your videos really helps me a lot, the animation that you add to it really helps me focus on the video and the information actually sinks in, it's amazing. So thank youuu ♡

I know it was a joke, but I had no idea what the letters meant, so I had to look it up. :) Learning something new everyday. B stands for "black". These pencils are soft. H stands for "hard". HB stands for "hard black", which means "medium hard". F stands for "firm". (source EberhardFaber)
