I have to say there are some good things about Land Rover ownership, they keep one busy, they keep one out of trouble and they keep one of the streets (roads, tracks!?) Seriously though great repair and camera work too, hope it was the problem. Happy belated birthday as well. Meanwhile we just went right across Australia again in our Toyota LC in the worst weather ever, floods, wind, rain like sheets and mud, lots of clay mud! No problems. Well..., I thought I had one but I was mistaken. Lol.

I have recently discovered your channel and am much enjoying it. I drive a P38 with a BMW engine. I brought it as a project but watching you I get my fix without getting either cold or dirty. It doesn't break, the HVAC book is displayed but the heater works, and I did have problems with the engine speed momently increasing by 300rpm, changed every sensor and then found I could have sorted it by cleaning the MAF sensor, BUT it runs perfect and appears to start easy when the engine is hot. I was a little confused by the term 'mole crawler' but then I saw 'Mall Crawler' in one of your comments, and then I knew what you meant, you meant a 'Chelsea Tractor'.

Be shure to replace coolant expansion tank cap. A number of coolant leaks are result of stuck pressure relief valve inside this cap. So, if it starts to leak somewhere because of pressure inside cooling system can't escape thru the valve and finds weak spots over and over again.

When I bought mine, some 3 years ago, it just had the oil cooler replaced. Apparently it had been a severe leak, and the mechanics had done a very poor job cleaning up the mess. It was smelling burnt oil for a couple of months. But that, along with an unnecessary gearbox adaptation reset after a fluid change, that made the gearbox slip on almost every gear for several weeks, I got it dirt cheap. The oil smell slowly faded and the clutches started to grip again after it had again started to get a grip on realities. Looking at all the carbon buildup in your butterfly valve (exactly: It is not a throttle!) and inlet manifold, I think I've got a plan. Mine has done 208 000 km now, so I'll, at least, stick a borescope in there.
@Vera_and_Christian11 ай бұрын
Mine has the slipping trans too. I did a fluid change and adaptation reset. It shifts like new but it is not as solid on launch when cold. Not as good as my LR4 TDV6. Christian

Enjoying watching your adventures and repairs. I have recently changed the oil cooler housing on my L322 4.4 tdv8 but also changed the EGR housing to block gasket which is located under the aluminium section in the middle of the V, if you think the bit you did was hard, it's a special world of pain. Mine was leaking coolant and oil externally, also changed the thermostat housing and lots of pipework as it had all gone brittle.
@gavindavis28682 ай бұрын
Is it advised to change the egr housing to block gasket or does an unknown oil leak higher up tend to be oil cooler housing seals? My car is leaking oil down the bell housing and I'm hoping it's from the oil cooler and not further down. Did you see / know it was coming from from Lower down? Thanks
@20galoperez11 ай бұрын
Happy belated birthday Christian. It would be good to analyze the oil stains inside the tank. It could tell you wether it is old oil from the machine or new oil that was accidentally put in the cooling system. It is amazing how much carbon was removed from the inlet. I am just wandering if mine is in the same condition. I have always thought of this inevitable situation and try to avoid it, All the best! Galo Pérez

A lot of cars that spurt oil out of rear seals etc and sprays oil mist into the oil breather that feeds warm air into the air box. Many times it's a defective PCV valve causing over pressure. My friend worked at a Volvo dealership and it was very common. Same for my W211 mercedes too.
