@feverpa
@feverpa 4 жыл бұрын
Instant replay is not the answer. It's part of the problem. Player mistakes, mistakes by the refs, and whining fans have part of the drama of sports forever. The league made a mistake by listening to the fans call for instant replay. Replay will NEVER eliminate bad calls, but we have a false idea that it should. On field refs have gotten worse since replay, and have gotten worse every time they expand replay. Also, replay has led us to some of the strangest, most confusing, esoteric rules. The solution is to get rid of replay, live with mistakes, and just let fans complain. Calls will be missed and fans will complain ANYWAY.
@feverpa
@feverpa 4 жыл бұрын
manny_ nuff great response! Make an actual point. Every time replay has been expanded, officiating got worse. Stupid rules like the “process of the catch” crap were created because of replay. If replay was the answer, we wouldn’t have to still listen to fans whine. It’s been around over 30 years. You show me how replay has been a solution to poor officiating.

Just after this was published, the #1 ref controversial play occurred: NFC Championship no call sent the wrong team (Rams) to the Super Bowl. The Saints should have represented the NFC in the Superbowl. The integrity of the league (or lack thereof) was on full display. The entire nation saw it. The only people who didn't were the referee(s) right on the spot. The fans were cheated out of Brady vs Brees for all the marbles.

@forman208
@forman208 5 жыл бұрын
On the offensive PI on the TD Jackson did push off, even if it was slight. But on replay he clearly pushes off enough to create the separation he would need for the touchdown. The Roethlisberger play is extremely close, it looks like he is basically half an inch short of the gal line, so you'd have legitimate beef disputing that call. However, even if they call him short, they'd still have 4th down from less than an inch from the end zone, you really predicting Seattle to stop Ben from converting that? I know I wouldn't. The chop block on Hasselbeck is the ridiculous call, an absolutely indefensible, laughable penalty

The Holmes was correct. Not reviewing Warner's fumble is definitely debatable, I wouldn't say the OPI is wrong, but controversial for sure. Ben's TD against the Seahawks is up for debate as well and I can see it going both ways. Hasselbecks penalty was garbage, and I didn't really see an issue with the dolphins one, but I can see the controversy. I don’t know what the issue with the Bryant touchdown was nor the hit on Jeremy hill from shazier
@Jarhead402011
@Jarhead402011 4 жыл бұрын
Robert Voli Bryant’s touchdown was later deemed by the “head ref” that it shouldn’t have been called a touchdown but there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it. The hit by shazier is the exact reason he ultimately nearly paralyzed himself. He led with the crown of his helmet and lunged at Giovani Bernard. The refs tried to give some explanation as to that he “didn’t line him up” whatever that means. The rules at that time stated if you hit a runner in the head with your helmet outside of the tackle box it’s supposed to be a 15 yard penalty. Instead, not only did he injure gio. He forced a fumble because he hit him so hard in the head that the bengals being in field goal range lost the chance at 3 points at the very least. Then ultimately lost by 2 because the refs were unaware that a Steelers coach was antagonizing the bengals by being in the middle of a group of bengals players when he’s technically not allowed on the field at that time. Of course the bengals lost their cool and messed up but that entire game was incredibly controversial. Especially when you consider the bengals get dominated year in and year out by the Steelers and haven’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season
@robertvoli1532
@robertvoli1532 4 жыл бұрын
Jarhead402011 At the time, the debate was if Bernard was a “defenseless receiver” and if a flag should have been thrown. Since he was determined to caught the ball and made a “football move” (this is before the Jesse James catch/no catch when no one knew what a catch was) he was no longer a defenseless receiver. Now, you can still be a defenseless receiver and make a catch while getting hit like that, but you cannot be considered a runner (or a non-defenseless receiver) and have the luxury of getting a ball knocked loose by a hit ruled an incomplete pass. Once Bernard was determined a runner, a defender can tackle him in anyway and not be at risk of a penalty. It’s essentially the same if he took a toss and shazier came through the line and hit him in the helmet like he did in this play, and Bernard dropped the ball. No penalty, and no fumble.

@irar4665

Yes,that one pretty bad,but not such an important play-- however,on the big calls, the offensive pass interference was technically a good call,even if not that "big" of a push off...and the Ben TD run is very hard to tell with replay if ball hit the line b4 pushed back-- so they had to stick with the call on the field... There's also one left out of whether there was an off sides that shudda been called that is also too tough to decide.

My favorite part of Ben's TD in SB XL, is how everyone ignores the official running in with 1 hand up, signaling it was not a TD until AFTER Ben was on the ground and moved the ball over the line. Everyone says it's too close to call, so we gotta stick with the ruling on the field, which I do agree with. However, it's obvious the official gave a false TD. I'm also surprised the Eagle's game where the QB was a half to a full yard shy of a TD and they credited him with a TD against Seattle, ending their playoff chances that year wasn't included. Along with the 2 false holding penalties (one of which had a missed offsides to boot) that took away two 25+ yard catches that put the Seahawks in the rezone on two separate drives in SB XL. As for the OPI, I get that it's technically a push off, but where is your consistency and fairness when every receiver in the NFL gets away with it, except the Seahawks in the SB? It was a bad call considering how every other game that season was officiated, and other plays in that same game was officiated.

@@jsphblw still a blown call. Patriots are the team that always get the controversial calls the most. That was a blatant blown call at an opportune time for the Patriots. Also the offsides by the Dee Ford yes, he was, but one of the Patriots offensive linemen was clear as day, in illegal formation. It was Brown who was in illegal formation. Very important crucial drive in the fourth for the Patriots. Sure the Chiefs wouldn't have gotten the interception and we dont know if they would have stopped the Patriots on that drive, but dont make it too easy for Patriots now. Every fanbase except the Patriots are sick of it.

As a longtime Redskins fan, I'm glad you remembered Mel Gray's phantom catch which is still the first game I thought of. The Redskins had their entire season on the line; win and you're in the playoffs, lose and you're out. The head referee who overruled the initial incomplete call was 30 yards away and had no view of the play! This play has the dubious distinction of being the only NFL play to ever wind up in court (the case was summarily dismissed). In case you're interested, replays did show conclusively that the ball came out of Mel Gray's hands prior to getting his second foot down meaning that the original incomplete pass call was correct. Mel Gray admitted as much during a retirement interview. But this is all moot, the Redskins' 1975 season ended on that one play. The only other possibility for worst bad call was the 1980 regular season final game for the division championship against the Dallas Cowboys. It was a great game with a controversial ending. Both teams seemed assured of a playoff birth regardless of the outcome of the game. But an earlier blowout game the same day flipped a tiebreaker meaning that the Redskins had to defeat the Cowboys to get into the playoffs as the division winner. The Redskins found out about this during halftime and they were trailing. They came out of the locker room fired up and determined. They controlled the game for most of the second half, coming back and taking a seemingly insurmountable lead when John Riggins turned the corner and in an astonishing display of speed by the big fullback, outraced the entire Dallas defense for a 65 yard touchdown. But the Cowboys were not done. Hall of Famer Roger Staubach playing in his final regular season game put together the greatest comeback in his entire career putting the Cowboys back on top 35-34 on a touchdown pass with just over 30 seconds left. During the final seconds, the Redskins were frantically trying to get into range to attempt a game winning field goal by Mark Moseley -- the last of the top straight-on style kickers and the greatest clutch kicker in the history of the game. On the final play, the Redskins got into position for a 57 yard attempt with two seconds left; their quarterback Joe Theisman turned to the head referee and repeatedly called for a time-out. The referee simply turned his back on Theisman and walked away letting the final two seconds expire denying the Redskins an opportunity for a long potentially game winning field goal.

@ravens52raylewis87 3 жыл бұрын
@@steveswangler6373 right? I got you! but honestly even as Ravens fan all I have to say about the Tuck Rule is that people need to get over it honestly you know why? Because not only had that call been used earlier that season when the Patriots played the Jets when Vinny Testaverde had gotten the same call but it had also been used since 1999 almost two years before that Patriots vs Raiders playoff game was in existence. That's not the only thing either. During that game after the officials had made that call the Raiders had opportunities to put that game away in their favor. They could have blocked Adam Vinatieri's field goal, and they could have stopped the Patriots offense in overtime the Raiders defense had them on 4th down and still didn't get a stop in OT the Raiders had their chances and they didn't seal the game. So you tell me who's really to blame here? The officials or the Raiders ineptitude?

ROB SCOUT more infamous calls than what/who? do you mean they had the most? and the history of football goes back to the 19th century, so that's a huge statement. teh steelers and patriots have had the most bad calls in their favor in the last 20 years. in nfl history i would have to say the cowboys lead the pack.

Others missing from this video: Cleveland Browns: 1986 AFC Championship Game. Matt Karliss' field goal that wins the game for Denver. Oakland Raiders: The "Imaculate Reception" play. Franco Harris' catch may have been illegal per rules of time and may have hit the ground. Also, missed block in the back after catch. Detroit Lions: Thanksgiving game vs. Houston Texans. Texans RB was obviously down, yet awarded a touchdown. Detroit Lions: Too many more to list. 2 more to add after this video was made: New Orleans Saints: 2019 NFC Championship - pass interference and illegal hit to helmet not called on Los Angeles Rams. Kansas City Chiefs: 2019 AFC Championship - roughing the passer called for no reason.

For the lions.. not even watching the video. I'm thinking of the CJ rule, the pay interference call that wasn't picked up vs the cowboys, Seattle batting the ball out of the end zone, the phantom face mask on Rodgers, and two years ago vs the falcons. The final play... let's see if they are all here

What is "... and two years ago vs the falcons" mean? How about the phantom "roughing the passer" call FOR the Patriots in one of the playoff games, for hitting Brady in the head. A TD isn't a TD, a fumble (and recovery) isn't one. Then Refs make up Rules as they go along "player fumbled the ball INTO the endzone which results in a touchback for the defensive". Where the hell is that in the Rule book? Really? So if a running back fumbles the ball INTO the endzone and another offensive player recovers the ball in the endzone it is not a TD but a Touchback for the Defensive team? Really? Oh yeah, and I loved the one where the Refs didn't even bother to determine which team recovered the fumble in the endzone, so the Ref said there were 2 parts to the Review. Since we couldn't determine the 2nd part, fumble recover, the Offense gets the ball at 1/2 yard line. What b.s. !!!!
