Maple Strip it’s around 6:00 a pick off is what you call it when a baserunner occupying a base gets tagged out without the ball being hit by the batter. Typically from a pitcher throwing to a base prior to his next pitch. There are several rules saying what you can and can’t do. In this case, a lefty (who already has an advantage against runners on first base since he’s already facing that direction before he pitches) can’t step more than 45 degrees toward home and still throw to first. 0 degrees meaning directly at first base, and 90 degrees meaning directly towards home. If you step toward home but throw to first, it’s a “balk” or illegal pitch and every runner gets to advance one free base
