On October 1st 1970 in Philadelphia at Connie Mack Stadium, they had a fan insurrection that made this Cleveland game look like a block party. It was the last game at Connie Mack and the fans came looking for souvenirs and wanting to destroy the stadium. It wasn't because the Philadelphia Phillies were leaving to go to another city. It was because they were staying and continuing the tradition of 88 years without winning a World Series. A fan actually ran out in the 9th inning and tackled the Phillies left fielder as he was running to catch the fly for the last out and a Phil's win. The fan said, "No no, we're not winning tonight." TRUE STORY. THE UMPIRES WANTED TO FORFEIT THE GAME SEVERAL TIMES, BUT BOTH MANAGERS TOLD THEM IF THEY FORFEITED, THE BRAWL WOULD BE WORSE.

This is exactly the kind of bullshit Jaguars fans have to put up with: garbage rumors that targeted them as a fanbase. Attendance for Jaguars games didn’t begin to drop below 65k until 2009 right after the housing crisis crash. We’ve been trying to rebuild our fanbase since that year, but you can’t do that with constant losing season. Ironically, if people keep lording things like “I hope their fans lose the team” and they finally find a way to start winning again like they did in the late 90’s, this sort of thing may repeat itself as Jags fans will likely be very inhospitable towards anyone not from Jax. I live in Cleveland, I attended this game, it was an ugly scene, I also had my young son with me, I remember shielding him from the shower of beer bottles. There is no doubt the fan’s overreacted, the mood in the crowd though was that they had been openly cheated out of a victory on national TV, which is absolutely true, the referees should have been held more accountable for their actions (not sure if they ever were). I believe in this day and age I would hope the NFL would pony up some of those billions of dollars they bring in to assure it never happens again, that was the last NFL game I went to and probably my last ever.

@benny pitt, you have to said that the team in Cleveland was screw for the beginning. To make a team in the time period which they were given was wrong. Look at the last game which the Mayfield was running and beginning his slide. Mayfield was sliding at the end of a 35-yard scramble when he got hit by Whitehead, who was initially penalized before the officials conferred and decided to pick up the flag. No foul, he was a running back then and he is allow to hit in the head. If I was the head coach and got the call from the league office stating that there should have a penalty for the hit, I would have said "Thanks for nothing, my quarterback could have been hurt or worse." Or look at the Oakland game. The Browns could have run the clock on the Hyde run which the officials states he did not make the first down (which he did) in the 4th quarter. There are two wins right there. So the record should be 4-2-1 right now or even 6-1 (Thanks to bad kicking game in the first two games) This team is about to take off.

@@Maidez09 the difference between this rare mayhem and those constant brawls at soccer stadiums is that the average NFL fan weighs about 225 pounds and up, versus soccer fans who barely break 150. Hence, if you are in the presence of a melee like the one in this video, you'll seriously wonder if you're "gonna make it out". I've been to soccer stadiums in which brawls break out among fans everywhere after a final game, but you still get the sense you'll be just fine walking out of there. However, when I used to go to Raiders games at the L.A. Coliseum in the mid-90s, FORGET ABOUT IT - you definitely would wonder if you would make it out of there safe. Every fan seems to have played linebacker in high school - understand, these are massive fans, not guys that look like Pee Wee Herman waiving soccer jerseys in their puny arms. So yeah, this ain't no Mickey Mouse crap compared to soccer stadium brawls - IT'S THE NFL! There is no comparison, sorry, buddy

I was at this game. We were very aware that they broke the rules and reviewed a play that was 2 plays ago. The Browns fans are very knowledgeable and knew they were getting screwed. The made us leave the stadium and we didn’t even know they finished the game until later that night. It is amazing that this game is so unknown. I tell people about it all the time and no one is aware of it outside of Cleveland.

I remember that game, but honestly in Cleveland Browns expansion team history this isn't even to 10, in 1999 against the same team Orlando Brown took a flag to the eye from a ref, left the game for a few plays, then came back and shoved the ref who threw it. he was suspended but it was lifted once the NFL learned he was injured so badly that he missed 3 seasons from losing vision in the eye that was hit.
