I am aware of the druid and sorcerer features applying to "one damage roll of the spell". This was an old concept video i made for this channel and should have vetted before posting. I was going off the rule saying "if a spell... deals damage to more than one target at the same time roll the damage once for all of them" however, its not stated if all beams hit simultaneously, the spell is instantaneous, but still. So this quite possibly wouldn't work. I'm sorry. I have a new video on most damage soon that is RAW and way better edit: video now out kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHayinmsd9Stmrs

Honestly, you could still pull this off with Magic Missile. RAW all missiles damage come from one damage roll. Evocation Wizard at 10th adds their INT to each missile, being a separate source of damage, so I imagine most of the rest of this video would still apply. EDIT: just saw your other comments below, you already knew this!

For the "not assuming the damage will be maximized" route, you could have gotten 2 levels in tempest cleric for their channel divinity, which is literally just maximize lightning damage, meaning that in combination with the scribes "I can do whatever damage type I want" feature you could do max damage (though it would be lightning only)

Push target back and forth through prismatic wall with telekinesis, the wall is 4 inches thick so 1 ft of movement should be enough to push a person through all the layers, telekinesis lets u move the target 30 ft, each time they pass the wall they get 50d6 damage, 30 times and it becomes 1500d6 damage for an average of 5250 damage (or 2625 damage if they make all the saves). With 2 lv of fighter u can use action surge to do the entire combo in 1 turn.

As it passes or reaches through each layer, the creature must make a Dexterity saving throw or be affected by that layer’s properties as described below." These are not contradicting statements, but two different scenarios. The first sentence details If a creature attempts to move through willingly, it can only move through one layer at once. That is important because it means you can heal, retreat, etc... as you pass between layers. The second sentence tells us that a creature forced through doesn't get that luxury, but rather just eats shit. Whether you argue RAW or RAI, this holds up. Unless you intend to argue that a 9th level spell is intended to be beaten by an ally using the Shove action to push a buddy through?
@ArchAngelDracul14 ай бұрын
@DriffPL Actually, grid based DnD is a variant rule. By the standard rules, you should have a ruler handy and measure the distance for movement. This is why the rules often state measurements in increments lower than 5, such as tiny creatures being 2.5' x 2.5', or difficult terrain costing 1 extra foot of movement per 1 foot you move. It's also why spells don't work that well on a grid.

Easiest way to absolutely blow this damage out of the water is to put up a prismatic wall then action surge to use telekinesis twice and vibrate them in and out of the wall. This can do the damage of all 7 layers of a prismatic wall 180 times per telekinesis spell (in one inch, and back out). 5 of those layers do 10d6. So 50d6 times 180 vibrations per telekensis is 9,000d6 damage per telekinesis spell (which you can do twice with action surge, and once when you cast it as a bonus action with quickened spell from sorcerers adept). and you're only level 19 with no feats considered yet. That's a total of 27,000d6, or 94,500 damage. But we can go further. If we are a scribes wizard we can swap all the damage to one damage type, and then use elemental adept to increase the damage per dice from 3.5 to 3.666 for a brisk 99,000 average damage, and since we only need 17 wizard and 2 fighter, if our last level is hexblade we can add 6 damage per damage roll, and since there are 540 damage rolls that adds 3,240 damage for a grand total of 102,240. It's only downside is the size restriction on telekinesis literally nothing beats the damage output of prismatic wall / spike growth rakes.

If you were to take ten levels in moon Druid, 8 in cleric subclass doesn’t matter, and two levels in wizard subclass doesn’t matter but you need to take the spell teleport. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure that as long as you have slots to cast it, which you would in this scenario you can learn any wizard spell you find. Cast death ward on yourself, teleport as I high as your dm will let you, and wildshape into a fire elemental. As fire elementals can squeeze through a 1 inch space I’m assuming they can become a being with a diameter of 1 inch, do so. The terminal velocity of this creature in this shape is about 1,024.4 ft/s times that by 6 to get a round that’s 6,146.4 a round. As one only falls 60 per round divide that by sixty to get 102 rounds roughly. As a being in 5e takes 1d6 for every 10 feet if you were to reach terminal velocity you would do and take about 615 d6 for an average of about 2,460 damage but because of death ward you just walk away at 1 hit point. Only works on stationary or sleeping enemies but just scry on them sleeping, have someone teleport you there and kill them. I think my calcs are off but not enough to not one-shot any creature.
@muscularclassrepresentativ56633 ай бұрын
This is why casters with some time on their hands and the number of options you get at higher levels are OP. Although if I were DM I wouldn’t let you mix and match real world and game physics hehe idk about this fall damage calc and the assumption that the fire elemental can be as concentrated in a free fall as it can just sliding through something one piece of its body at a time, like what if it just spreads out in the wind? But it still probably leaves you with a dozen ways to kill him, on the off chance that this doesn’t kill even with some nerfing. Martials just can’t keep up with how many funny objects you could drop on people or how many hundreds of other fucked up combos there are. I might as well just allow this to work perfectly if people are getting thrown through prismatic wall a dozen times with telepathy

in 1 action i "accidentally" triggered an explosion that at max could do 2000 damage clean. to be fair this was at level 18 To save details i managed to join the campaign as a fire myrmidon elemental creature that one of the party members essentially gave free will and after long found ourselves in a basement holding a mini boss, 26 other enemies some of which could have potensially been an actual boss. one of which being a water elemental, now what was thought to be a debuff for me playing a fire elemental my magic barrier was removed and previously got caught in a water trap which caused a small steam explosion that dealt a fair amount of damage to myself, what i remembered form that trap was Water + Me = steam explosion = damage to everything around me but including my fellow party mates, so obviously, i took my first turn killing 1 person and told everyone else to run... quickly... the very next turn i hurled myself into this water myrmidon as the fire core and water core basically smashed together it caused a 20d100 explosion in a small wine cellar, holding lots of barrels and drinks of alcohol roll dealing 1036 damage, killing 26 total enemies (Including a mini boss) instantly. now while i have a fair amount of health, i do not have 1037 hp which means i was on the very brink of death, a light gust of wind would kill me as i had to roll a DC 15 death save with disadvantage and no multipliers to help me. fortunantly all of my party members were safe, 4 hid in the wizards pocket dimension, 1 wasnt in the building we were fighting in, 1 dodged into the 4th demension (he succeded the reflex throw by some miracle) and 1 guy hid behind a barrel which was storing a freezing magic item. Myself on the other hand was at the epicenter of the explosion and while in it i thought i was back in my home plane as i saw the fire around me but... it got cold, and colder until i saw myself holding my core. I had just rolled a double Nat 20 succeeding the death save DC and also due to the critical save and the DM not wanting more explosions merged the water and fire myrmidon cores into the first of its kind steam elemental, and the water elementals magical barrier to compliment it. after the party deduced they would not kill me after an hour and a half discussion i was allowed to live. i would then go on to accept the wizards attempt to call his deity while were in the devils casino and i almost turned into a god, havent had a session since but soon i will be powerful enough to establish a steam plane and actually become god. We still blame the guy who first gave me free will for that little accident.

The wildfire druid only adds the bonus d8 only once per turn. So realistically it's only 2d8 extra damage with assasinate. I feel it would be better to go tempest cleric 2 for their channel divinity and use Order of Scribes wizard (picking up shatter) to change the damage type of our scorching ray to thunder damage. This will allow us to maximize the damage roll. However, there may be a caviat. Destructive Wrath says we can activate it when we roll damage. Now this depends whether we first roll damage with scorching ray and then multiply it by the number of rays, or we roll damage separatly per ray. If we roll only per-ray and it effectively just adds 32 guaranteed damage (if we hit with at least 1 scorching ray) or maximizes the whole thing will be much more

Here's mine, works entirely RAW for 2014 5e and with no magic items was calculated to have an upper range of 900 damage. Start as the Bugbear from MotM. The key thing here is Surprise Attack, which adds 2d6 damage to any attack that hits an opponent that hasn't had their turn yet in Initiative. Start with 1 level of Warlock. Ye, just one. Levels are strapped, after all. Take Eldritch Blast as a cantrip, and the most useful class for this situation is Hexblade so you can rely on CHA for weapons. It's not much but it costs nothing, and actions, too, are strapped. From there, take 4 levels in Rogue.You'll want the Assassin archetype, for Assassinate specifically, so that attacks before enemies have moved are at advantage, and in surprise (which one should assume for this theoretical max), every attack is a critical hit. You also want to take Eldritch Adept as a feat, to get Agonizing Blast; this works because as per Eldritch Adept, you only can't take invocations with prerequisites /if you are not a warlock/. But you are; a level 1 warlock, but one nonetheless. Then you're gonna wanna take Wizard 6. Bladesinger, of course. For leveling you're probably going to want to use Bladesong a bit, but for our purposes it's not the main event. First of all, you want Crossbow Expert from your ASI, but what we're really after is Bladesinger's unique version of Extra Attack, that lets you replace one attack as part of your attack action, with a cantrip. I think you're starting to see where I'm going with this... Then take 3 levels of Ranger. Yes, you read right, Ranger. You'll want Gloom Stalker, for access to Dread Ambusher, which gives you a bonus to Initiative and when you take the Attack action on the first turn of combat, you get an additional extra attack. This has no limit, so if you are taking multiple attack actions, you get multiple bonus attacks, which matters because-- 2 levels of Fighter. Come on, everyone saw it coming. However, this has some extra synergy here on the first turn, because it causes both the Bladesinger's Extra Attack and Dread Ambusher to compound as well. Finally, I think to get the most out of this, you'll want all the rest of your last 4 levels back in Rogue. For the final ASI you are granted, you'll want Sharpshooter. Wasn't as needed until now, you'll see why in the rundown. Now from the classes to the gear. I built this to not assume magic items on principal, but if you can use magical variants of these items, perfect. Your primary weapon is a Hand Crossbow; this is the only weapon that works for the build, as it lets you attack at range without breaking Bladesinging should you be caught out unable to do your big first turn nova. How it works: Ideally, you'll want to be sneaking around, and have either Haste Potions ready, or the spell prepared on Wizard. It doesn't matter either way, but the idea was doing this all yourself, so I based this around the Haste being concentration. It doesn't matter anyway, you're only casting it premeditated, before ever even approaching the target. So with self Haste up, you attack from the shadows, gaining surprise. You're going to be taking three full attack actions here, one normally, one with Action Surge, and one with Haste. Now there's a possible weird interaction here with Haste in this instance, that one is up for you (or god forbid you're actually using this and you have to ask your DM) to decide. What happens is, your first two attack actions are going to include three possible Hand Crossbow shots, all with Sharpshooter because advantage, HOWEVER. You will be replacing one of those shots with an Eldritch Blast, as per the usage of Bladesinger's special form of Extra Attack. This makes it an action that totals to 6 attacks (two shots, four EB rays). In addition, one hit does apply 4d6 of Sneak Attack, and one hit applies an additional 1d8 from Dread ambusher. You then Action Surge and do it again, another 6 attacks, the only difference is you won't get Sneak Attack. Then you use your Hasted action to take the attack action (one attack only), and this is where the confusion steps in, as that one attack could theoretically be replaced by an Eldritch Blast; this could go either way, as the cantrip replaces "one attack" but the cantrip itself does four attacks. My belief is that it would work, as the attack that was limited by Haste has already been replaced by the cantrip; so you get 4 more attacks out of your Hasted action, before a final bonus action shot from your trusty hand crossbow rounds it out for a very generous 19 attacks in a single turn, all autocrit. Numbers ahead are assuming you have 16 Cha. (xbow+ss) 18d6+107 + (sa/da) 8d6+4d8 + (EBs) 24d10+36 + (Surprise Attack ;P) 76d6. The max damage of this with no magic items or outside assistance is 1,027 damage. You'll never ever ever see it but it averages around 800 and that will kill anything in the monster manual, particularly since the majority of it is Force damage.

@@funnymonkey3961well the first inaccuracy starts at minute 5, since spirit shroud only helps you hit something within 10 feet and add the damage, which means you’re 99% not getting that surprise attack, and then at 5:51 when you go scribe if you change damage type you lose the wildfire Druid bonus, which is also a error for adding the sorcerer +5 at 7:25. Now if you want to make that damage up you could swap in the storm cleric for the Druid, turn your spell to lightning and use the storm clerics max lightning damage, though depending on DM they may rule that as one use per attack roll, rather than per spell. Don’t get me wrong, this guy can definitely get up massive damage, way more than anyone will ever need, and if he gets lucky enough to be at exactly ten feet distance from someone before battle starts, gets all his prep work done without starting the fight, and then fires off, he can get the damage he claims, but there are so many things that have to go perfectly that he’s likely to at most get around a third of the dice he expects

@@peterbenckendorf9724 I don't think your first point counts as an "inaccuracy." Getting the surprise attack on a creature that's 10 feet away is unlikely, but it's not impossible. This whole thing is a theorycrafting exercise for highest POSSIBLE, so we're assuming perfect luck. Nobody is expecting a player to actually do this. And you only lose out on the Wildfire and Sorcerer bonuses IF you change the damage type, which you don't have to do. So they still apply to the theoretical highest damage. Suboptimal, maybe. If you want to know just ask, I basically have a copy pasta about it saved on my phone.

You can do more damage by possessing/controlling a Excruciarch. Give it a necklace of fireball to blast a dense swarm of mosquitoes. (About 23 trillion if they are forced into standing adjacent to each other by an apathy/sympathy spell.). It’s plus to hit and attacks next turn will be roughly 23 trillion. (Mosquito breeding guide sold separately 😂) You can do more than this, but it requires you to actually become a Excruciarch + Lord of blades. (It’s possible too)

So i know this is technically "cheating" since it isn't pure D&D rules.. But i was in a game once where we were playing a hybrid rule set. A mix of 3.5 and pathfinder. I was a paladin. And throughout the game i was able to acquire a few things. The most important being a summonable spirit mount, which was a dire tiger that my character saved from a trafficking ring and raised from a cub. That dire tiger was eventually able to gain lightning powers and the ability to fly at a speed of 120. As a paladin, there was a spell in pathfinder that allowed me to summon multiples of that mount and a feat that allowed my mount to have the same feats and abilities as my paladin. Long story short, through the clever use of various abilities, feats, and spells, i was able to have 17 of these electric flying dire tigers circling the main bad guy of the entire campaign. We rolled initiative for the combat and i had all of the tigers hold their turn, to be activated as soon as the bad guy's invulnerability spell wore off. As soon as that happened, all 17 of the tigers did an immediate charge (improved charge i think) dive bomb attack on the bad guy, followed by my paladin with a lance also on his personal tiger doing the same. Oh, and they were all using divine smite on all of their attacks, and each one had 4 attacks to make. It took us close to 40 minutes to roll and calculate all of the damage. I don't remember the specifics but all together it was something like 68,000 combined physical and lightning damage. Needless to say, there is D&D and there is pathfinder. But the combination of the two is insane. For those interested, the attack literally split the continent in two and the event became known as "Kur's sundering" afterwards. My character became an angel and eventually the new God of justice.

So he’d choose hydrogen gas. 1 kg = 500 mols H2, which would create massive pressure changes (11200 atm, about 10 times as deep as the bottom of the ocean), which would destroy human skin easily and stronger-than-hurricane winds with a massive nuke-sized shockwave. Can anyone do the damage math or see if this would be possible in-game (probably if the DM allows it)?

The most damage "stupid' can do occurred during a D&D high level one-shot while hunting down an adult dragon in a small limestone cave (easy picking for a group of six 15th levels, right?). The cave was under a walled keep on the shore of a lake and we could see lake water seeping and dripping through one section of the cave roof (red flag #1). When we stumbled across the dragon sleeping behind roof rubble where more water was seeping through the cave roof (red flag #2), our rogue decided to hold his action and use a magic item when the party wizard cast a spell, "...in order to maximize the dragon's confusion". The wizard decided to cast a level 8 fireball. Our rogue decided at that point to use his magic item which turned out to be a full Necklace of Fireballs and asked if the two actions could be done simultaneously. The DM smiled, shrugged, and said, "Sure." (red flag #3). So at the moment the mage launched his fireball, the rogue used his Necklace of Fireballs. All NINE beads..making that necklace a Level 11 Fireball spell in addition to the wizard's level 8 Fireball. The rolled damage not only killed the dragon, it blew a hole in the water-weakened cavern roof, collapsing the roof onto our party. Which in turn destabilized the walled keep above it so much the entire walled keep collapsed through the cave roof into the cave. And onto our party. And that left a crater at the lake shore big enough to cause the lake itself to drain into, and completely fill in seconds, the cave where our party was now lying buried under a collapsed cavern roof and the ruins of a multi-thousand ton walled keep. The most memorable moment was when, after the DM told us all the consequences above as we sat stunned at the table, the rogue player actually asked, "Can I roll to save for half damage?"

well with the prompt as written in the Title (I know you mean per turn but I'm ignoring that) an elf lives an average of 750 years 12 months a year for 365 days per year (no leap years in dnd I guess). Days are still 24 hours, elves need to sleep only 4 to prevent exhaustion, and a round of combat is 6 seconds. 6 seconds /60 seconds = 1/10th a minute so 10 turns a minute x60 (hour) x20 (day) = means an elf will make 12,000 attacks per day of continual swinging RAW x365 (year) x750(lifespan) = 3285000000 or 3.285x10^9 actions in a life of continual swinging from the average elf assuming this elf was born a 20th level fighter or was just the killing blow to several Tarrasques at a *very* young age that's x4 attacks per turn for 1.314x10^10 attacks then we multiply that by the highest damage weapon we can find in my case using a heirloom moonblade that's 2d6+3 magical slashing, plus 1d6 (unspecified elemental) damage, hitting crits on 1 lower than normal, plus the effects of a vorpal sword just for fun (aka I don't include that in damage anywhere) so the average of that is 13.5 max is 19 a 20th level fighter crits on 18 lowered to 17 due to the blade (20% chance) so the average is increase to 16.2 max is 38 (just 2x with assumed 100% crit rate) 1.314x10^10 x16.2 = 2.12868x10^11 is the average max damage of a 20th level elven fighter 1.314x10^10x39=4.9932x10^11 as the maximum damage of a 20th level elven fighter over the course of their life This is a pretty straight forward calculations for everything using only what came to mind immediately so it's likely there is a higher max damage Lifespan, Weapon, and Class features are probably the part that suffered the most due to this. I've seen elsewhere that elves can live to 1,200 or that warforged are potentially immortal so that could increase the damage considerably. Similarly a properly minmaxed class could easily 2x-4x the damage if not more, I just have level 20 fighter for the purposes of ease. As for weapon, the moonblade could be maxed out further using the minor traits table on which it is allowed to roll an unlimited number of times so anything on there could be added I just used the moonblade attribute table and maxed the damage out there. you could also double the damage again to about 10^12 by adding vulnerability to the damage types on the person receiving these blows

Yeah, if ANY spell (leveled or cantrip) is cast as a bonus action, all other spells that turn must be cantrips. So, if you were able to cast a reaction spell on your turn (maybe your quickened spell was Dissonant Whispers and you have War Caster) that reaction spell would have to be a cantrip. I think they are making this less confusing/weird in the 2024 handbook.

Frankly I just go the Draconic ancestry sorcerer / warlock route for the the double firebolts every turn. when adding your charisma modifier to the damage from draconic ancestry, adding proficiency bonus to damage from hexblade curse, and casting haste on yourself for an addition action, 3, 4d10+5 firebolts = 12d10+33 dmg with an average of 99 i believe. I usually take the elemental adept feat to ignore fire resistance. And yes i know that rules as written Haste does not let you cast a spell but my table thinks thats dumb so we dont play that way. If I can get at least 1 crit in those 3 hits the average damage jumps to 121. So not a "nuke" but more than enough to drop, say a bandit lord or some lesser boss like an ogre or something in a single turn. with a total maximum possible damage of 273. not that i have ever rolled that but I have broken 200 before.

Casting Time: Action Range: Self Components: V, S Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes You conjure spirits from the Elemental Planes that flit around you in a 15-foot Emanation for the duration. Until the spell ends, *any attack you make deals an extra 2d8 damage* when you hit a creature in the Emanation. This damage is Acid, Cold, Fire, or Lightning (your choice when you make the attack). In addition, the ground in the Emanation is Difficult Terrain for your enemies. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. *The damage increases by 2d8 for each spell slot level above 4.* Introducing 2024 content also means introducing the "One Spell with a Slot Per Turn" rule, but does adding this into the mix beat the numbers here?

Putting all the errors aside let me propose my take: you did all the multiclass munchkinery but a level 18 wizard/2 fighter would be enough. I wont even use racial features to prove a point. Since you have wayy too much setup time, i will also take 2 turns to setup. First i need the epic boon of high magic for the 2nd 9th level slot. Then we cast prismatic wall on top of the target as a sphere. Then we do it again on top of the first sphere. Then comes the nova round, you cast reverse gravity and assuming there is nothing to hold on to (if you can be specifically 10 feet away from your target i can make this assumption) there is no save. Target goes through prismatic wall 4 times, then you drop concentration son 4 more times, then you repeat with action surge. Thats 16 times through the wall meaning 800d6 damage. Average of 2800 assuming all saves are failed, 1400 if all saves are passed. If you want the maximum damage for some reason its 4800. If you worry about the damage type just use scribes wizzard (since this combo dont require subclass either) to turn it into psychic (pyschic scream) or magical bludgeoning (meteor swarm). Remember that this combo dont use race, bonus action, feats, items and is a legit build that can be played on a real table no problem. Oh also did i mention this is AOE not single target.

@@XP_Goblin 1 mistake I found is you use 2 bonus actions, 1 for applying Hex Blade Curse and 1 for the quickened Firebolt. Btw quickening an Eldritch Blast might be better (assuming you have Agonizing blast and maybe Hex Blade Curse from a setup round.) since this is 3 more attacks then firebolt. Also instead of 3 levels of Rogue Assassin you could just cast Hold Person/Hold Monster for automatic crits if you stand within 5 feet of the target (Paralyzed condition). Then you don't even need surprise, get advantage to all attacks (instead of only the first attack if they have higher initiative then you) and you get higher level spell slots, so more dpr. But it does require a setup round and them to fail the save 2 times. Still a cool idea this build, I especially like the scribe subclass to overcome resistance/immunity!

You can't cast a quickened cantrip, or any quickened spell, if you cast a leveled spell as an action that turn. The new rules are going to vastly improve the spell action economy, but also nerf quickened spell and action surge, so this combo won't be possible then either. It's best to assume your BA can't factor into this combo at all except to use Hexblade's curse. If you get Spirit Shroud off before combat, then you can curse, ray, action surge ray and that's still respectably huge damage. I would multiclass tempest cleric and use a thunder or lightning damage type to change average damage into screw-you damage.
