A colleague of mine was using one of these on these on site to shape a piece of timber. It's a really good thing he was wearing gloves because when he ran it through the two of his fingers I didn't have to scratch around on the floor looking for them, they were hanging in neat little pouches by the remaining threads of the gloves. Surgeon was able to reattach them but with the knuckles destroyed his fingers are half an inch shorter and don't flex anymore. This tool is seriously dangerous and the damage it does to flesh and bone cannot be underestimated. Definitely the most gruesome injury I've had to treat on site. Please do not treat these blades casually and use all of extra guards if you ever need to use one!
@StumpyNubs5 жыл бұрын
Nearly lost 4 fingers with one of those. It's a freaking stupid dangerous tool. "Anti-kickback" is absolute nonsense. Mine sure kicked back, and if you do some Googling you'll see that they have nearly killed people. In an instant mine caught in the wood, ripped the side handle from my grip and cut across the back of my left hand. You can imagine what those chainsaw teeth did to me. Yet I consider myself lucky. I was using a grinder with a paddle-switch for safety, so it turned off as I let go. Otherwise it would still be climbing up my arm. The leather gloves were no match for those teeth, though.......Every 9-fingered woodworker I know was a pro. Even in the emergency room they said 90% of the woodworking accidents they see are by pros with experience who never thought they'd get hurt because they are "always careful". All the experience in the world will not stop this thing from kicking back. If it grabs the right spot in the wrong way, it's simply going to do what it wants to do, no matter how "carefully" you think you're using it. And when that happens all you can do is pray the teeth don't hit you. It's not worth the risk. You are playing Russian roulette every time you pick it up. Someday it will get you. Throw it in the trash! There are safer tools out there that will do the job.

I have used this tool exactly once a few years ago. I ended up in the emergency room a few minutes later. Anti kickback action my ass. DO NOT TRY TO TO CUT A CHANNEL OR GROOVE WITH THIS TOOL. It will flutter between the side walls violently when you least expect it, jump out of the groove and liquefy everything in its path. It caught my left arm and right palm before I dropped it. Feel free to purchase and use it, but be very aware of its destructive ability. It has lounged around in my toolbox sneering at me ever since our first/last encounter.

Why were you using it like that? It's a carving disc. Not a cutting disc. Cutting channels sound like a operation best accomplished using a router.

@@sentry8992 I was trying to carve a head on a piece of wood. Once I started carving the chin and the neck I tried to do too much too fast by plunging the tool under the chin to the depth of the neck and the tool told me it wasn't happy with my method. Totally my fault. I need to build some metal vambraces if I ever plan to use this tool again.
@sentry89922 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsemenchuk3056 I'm an artist as well. Based on your description, a saw zall would have been a great choice to make a series of relief cuts first. The saw zall would have quickly got to the depth from chin to the neck, then you could have come back with the carving disc. Wherever possible, always make a series of relief cuts first. Also there's 2 other carving disc's available on the market that does very similar carving operations but do not utilize the chain mechanism that could get caught or bind up in the material. The other 2 designs are easier to work with. Amazon sells a 9 disc set for 30 bucks. The set includes all the different styles of carving discs.
