Bob Woodward writes in his book “War” that retired General Mark Milley, who served as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Trump administration, called Donald Trump a “fascist.” MSNBC’s Ali Velshi explains why in a “normal new world, this would be all everyone was talking about” but this isn’t so now that we live in the Trump-era.

Even if Harris seems to win the republicans likely have plans to throw the election into chaos to prevent ballot counting. The election will then head to the House of Representatives where Trump will be chosen the winner. If that doesn't seen to be working, there is precedent for the Supreme Court to chose the president. Trump is correct when he says it will be rigged, in his favor. The mess could drag on for many weeks.

The last time there were people in the Trump administration who acted as checks and balances to Trump's behaviour or tendencies. They could curtail the worst of his behaviour. This time around, Trump will only hire people who do what he says, even when what he says is clearly the most idiotic option. There will be no Chief of Staff with a backbone, trying to steer him back to humanity and common sense. There will be no General Milley. There will be few barriers to his petty and, frankly, insane tendencies. As such, the rest of the civilised world is also invested in who runs the world's largest and most consequential military.
