"Snake Island" is so infamously deadly that, in history class, we were taught how it served as a sort of Gitmo against people that did major crimes (especially against the government and/or military). The place was actually more like an indirect death sentence as the person was mostly just abandoned and forgotten there...expected to have quickly been executed by one of the snakes ( usually...it was the case after a few days or so)

Down here In Louisiana we have copperheads or cotton mouths/water moccasins.. and I live next to the river. There a plentiful. Had them in my house.. almost got bit by one in the neck. My wife took pictures as It crawled up my house walls which were brick. Got Into my attic.. and one day I was outside watching the dogs. And as I stood and took a step forward I heard it lunge. Turned around and there it was. Mouth wide open. Saw the beautiful white mouth and the possessive eyes. Stretched out the gap between the brick and vinyl overhang. At least 3 feet. I had my machete outside thankfully just a few feet away. Cut the head. Which you leave for 24 hours. They still bite. And still venomous.. glad it was me that it lunged for. I have 3 kids and the wife.. plenty of stories about them.

They didn’t mention this, but the Golden Lancehead Viper have evolved to jump out of trees to strike birds out of the sky. The Lanceheads also learned NOT to eat the local birds, because they know the local birds would eventually go extinct.

Snake Island was a peinsula long ago, but the sea level rised and covered the land. Before that it had a pretty balaced fauna, with lots of snakes, but with lots of predators for the latter... When the sea level rised, it compromised the predators, leaving the snakes to thrive in the now isoolated island

Forget Anaconda and the Amazon, this island should be the center of a great snake horror movie. Just imagine it, a group of tourists on vacation in Brazil go sailing, get caught in a storm, and find themselves on Snake Island. Picture each one getting picked off one by one by snakes that attack from the trees, snakes that jump from under boulders, and then, they are attack by huge swarm of venous vipers that chase them across the island. Why is this not a horror movie yet?
