Who lives on North Sentinel Island and what makes this tribe so violent. Is this tribe truly the last untouched tribe?
North Sentinel Island lies to the west of the other Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. It is a small island with an area of only about 23 square miles (59.7 sq. km.). It is mostly covered by a forest that gives way to a narrow beach that encircles the island. The island is also surrounded by coral reefs and dark blue water rich with fish and other sea life. What makes North Sentinel Island different from other tropical islands is its unusual inhabitants, who we will discuss in this episode of The Infographics Show, “The Untouched Tribe - North Sentinel Island.”
Walking around except for some leaves, string fibers, and other decorations, the indigenous people of North Sentinel Island, the Sentinelese, have lived in almost complete isolation from the rest of the world for nearly 60,000 years. According to a documentary about North Sentinel Island, they are “thought to be direct descendants of the first humans who emerged from Africa.” They have been isolated for so long that the language they speak has been forgotten by the rest of the world. Another concern is that their extreme isolation has made them vulnerable to modern-day diseases. They do not have immunity to them and could become seriously ill or even die as a result of being exposed to them.

Sentinelese are the only people who survived 2004 Indian ocean tsunami by themselves .. When a chopper was sent to look for them they were spotted at high places and were quite enough in number to reckon that they know how to survive , when they could survive that deadly earthquake and tsunami they could survive anything that comes. in the 1800s british explorers would capture members of newly discovered tribes and give them good food and drink and gifts, and send them back to the tribe to speak favorably of the british so contact would be easier. In 1880 they tried this with the sentenalese, caught six individuals, two elders and four children. The two elders grew sick and died in the british's care, so they gave the children gifts and sent them home, so the Sentenalese's impression of outsiders probably came from the testimony of these four children who were kidnapped and probably watched their granparents die in the process. It's likely the sentenalese have a long held belief that outsiders only want to take them from their home and kill them as a result, would explain the hostility.

Ok, to be fair this is 100% our fault that they are so isolationist. in the very very early 1900s a missionary went on to the island but he ended up kidnapping several of their children and elders. The elders all died because of sickness and the 'missionary' did... things... to the children while also documenting them like animals. The island was known in Thailand/Siam Buddhism since the ancient times as it was in the path of Buddhist pilgrimage to India and Sri Lanka. I'm an American and I've known about this island since I was in 3rd grade which, embarrassingly enough, was in the early 1980s. He got what he deserved but, unfortunately, I don't feel it was good enough. Who knows what diseases he brought to them and, as another commenter said, may have exposed them to certain death simply because of his body. Being a missionary is hard and an interesting demonstration of undying faith but, come on...the Sentinelese have proven they aren't fond of visitors. The most recent population estimation I read was 39 now (I have no idea how they can estimate) as opposed to 200-something a decade ago. I feel sorry for Dude's family, but not for him.

You have forgotten to mention the fact that a UK based anthropologist kidnapped 5 members of the tribe and exposed them leading to two deaths. Then after realizing what they had done they returned the rest to the island, however this did not stop them from visiting again and again. Also please respect the free liberty and let these people enjoy their rights, stop publicising them. Also as their rights and will has been respected by the Indian government and have restricted anyone from going there, it would be unethical to encroach upon someones space when you are not invited. Those that went there were very well aware about the law and restrictions.

The sentinelese people reminds me so much of our tribes behaviour during the time of my great grandfather... many indian army personnels and cartographers were killed in such violent encounters because the village elders thought the "outsiders" (indian authority representatives) were there to invade (thanks to the British expeditions who actually were the reasons for the confrontation in the past).. sentinelese people are behaving exactly as a person would behave if somebody invaded their house...
