I think Syndergaard is a bad choice for the Mets as the disappointing player. First off, Syndergaard had some rough spots but at times was still dominating batters, he had a mediocre season but there were several players that were more disappointing. The three that I consider more disappointing are Robinson Cano, Jeurys Familia, and Edwin Diaz. Cano, despite his old age was still a .300 hitter prior to the 2019 season but injuries and high amount of strikeouts and a low batting average made Mets fans frustrated whenever he was at the plate. Familia’s reunión with the Mets was that he would be the 8th inning guy and still post up closer like numbers, especially since he was a closer not too long ago. However, from the start, he was a train wreck, eventually working his way into an unreliable middle relief guy that had a 5.70 ERA. Last, I’m shocked Edwin Diaz wasn’t on the list as I consider him the most disappointing player in all of baseball. In 2018, Diaz was an all star closer with a sub 2.00 ERA, so with the Mets not having a closer in quite a while, they gave up their number 1 prospect and several other minor leaguers for him and Cano. Diaz started out shaky but eventually, was a train wreck. He walked way too many batters and at times and was giving up so many home runs you’d think it was the derby. Eventually, it was so bad that he lost his spot as the closer to Seth Lugo. Hopefully he can rebound in 2020 but it was an awful season for him
