What's that book to the left of the screen (your right) called 'Fat Cat' about?

I didn't ready any of these series and the only one I picked up at all was the Farseer which I put down in chapter one because the 1st person just turned me right off.

For me the worst sequels are the Divergent ones Everything but the first book is just blah and downright unreadable for me

I was trying to think of the opposite case ie where the author maybe hadnt meant to write a series but due to the success of the original had written a sequel that was arguably better than the original I could think of a couple of examples : Lewis Carrolls Through The looking Glass and what Alice found there (Alice through the looking glass") sequel to Alice in Wonderland and Stephen Baxters "Ark" which is Book 2 of the Flood/Ark duology (although this was a n intentional sequel) Also Alexander McCall Smiths No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series where Ive DNF'd the original novel at least twice but have found its sequels immensely readable

interesting! It definitely bears thinking about, off the top of my head I can't think of anything! But maybe I can make a video about books like this eventually, if I have in fact read any ;)

@Bookshelf Gems Yes its the sequel to The Hobbit . Maybe its the best example of a sequel improving on the original book

Annihilation was definitely the high point in the Southern Reach Trilogy! I did really enjoy Authority too though

I don't like content related to cheating and showing it like it is good an normal to happen. 😟
@ivymuse5 жыл бұрын
just because it's "normal" in the sense of occuring frequently doesn't mean it's not a big deal! I also don't like when it's made out to be a normal part of any relationship or something you just kind of have to accept because "it happens a lot".

Authority is a kind of weird sequel as its totally different from Annihilation The answer to Area X is given in Acceptance however its a real "Blink and You Miss It " moment in that its only dicussed in one paragraph although hinted at by the group doing experiments at the lighthouse

I really like the Raven Cycle series, but I totally get what you're saying about the Dream Thieves. It's easily my least favorite in the series. The first book sold me with Blue as the heart of the story and the main character, but it felt like the entire series got co-opted to be all about Ronan. He even got his own spinoff book, so I guess you can tell who the author really cared about lol
@ivymuse5 жыл бұрын
YES 100 TIMES YES. I was convinced Blue was supposed to be the focus too, and then she was just forgotten about -.- haha yeah, definitely some favouritism there ;)

I agree about the Dream Thieves, it kinda didn’t fit with the rest of the series
@witchf4ce3105 жыл бұрын
The Dream Thieves wasn’t disappointing because it was about Ronan imo, he’s definitely my favorite character, it was just so extremely boring and nothing freaking happened!! I didn’t like The Raven Boys all that much either but The Dream Thieves confirmed that the series really isn’t for me 😩 the plot in general is so underwhelming but even more so in the second book however that’s possible..
@ivymuse5 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed The Raven Boys but yeah, if you're a plot focused reader the series really doesn't work :P

ivymuse I’m definitely not plot driven, I do need a good story but I’m very character driven, but I didn’t like any of the characters all that much 😄

A disappointment: The Wayward Pines trilogy. The first book was fine, I kinda liked it, the second was a letdown, and the end of the third one was pretty unsatisfying (in my opinion, of course). And I had a lot of issues with Feast of Crows and Dance With Dragons as well. It's not like I felt disappointed but bored. Oh my god. There was a huuuuuuuuge amount of nothing in there (still want Martin to write the final sequels, though).

oh no :/ I loved that series! I have heard that of the later books because he didn't really know what he was writing anymore, or something along those lines :P still looking forward to getting there at some point haha

Sequels that didn't cut the mustard. Allegiant. Mockingjay. and somewhat, HP2 CoS, IMO the weakest of the 7 HP books. Love triangles are but one geometric shape explored in lit. Far From the Madding Crowd/Hardy, a VicLit novel, features a love square. When these shapes get past hexagon they becomes out of control. In the story of Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, it ain't a geometric shape, & it ain't a harem trope, lots of characters approve of the polygynous relationship & they all know what's going on. No cheating. What you think about that I'm not sure. Pray tell. :-) . That Wolfgang M., your fellow Austrian. Quite the famous fellow.

@@ivymuse Is polygamy even legal in Austria? Canada seems to have a grey area on it. No for natives, & yes if u r an immigrant who already has more 'n 1 spouse. I'm for 1 law for everyone, so I feel they should pick 1 legal spouse for everyone, OR polygamy is legal for all. A nation should have 1 legal system governing the land, & having 2 anywhere in the legal code violates this.
