This week we stayed at the most DODGIEST laybys in the UK! We pulled up here a few weeks ago during the day and noticed how weird it was, but attempting to stay overnight is even weirder! We had to leave, but we got followed!!

BACKGROUND STORY
We are steps2adventure, better known as Jordan & Annalise. We created the steps2adventure brand to inspire people to explore what the outdoors has to offer. Back in 2019 we always knew we wanted to travel, we were planning backpacking trips, train journeys.. you name it. Thankfully we came across the van life KZbinrs! As soon as we saw this way of life we knew this was it, this is how we want to live and travel. So, we bought a van… Not just any van, she’s a 2007 LWB Mercedes sprinter van, an absolute beast!! We have spent over 2 years converting her in-between work and some little adventures across the UK.

I tell you, you get some right oddballs at night. I don't have a van but every bonfire night and one other night when they have a massive firework night near where I live, I pack myself and my dog into the car to escape the noise. In 2022, we found a lay by in the countryside out of ear shot of the noise on an 'A' road, o not hidden. I got my dog in a jumper plus blankets to keep warm. I had a coat on and a blanket over my lap, I bought food and water for my dog as well as a hot flask of drink for me. I didn't put the interior light on but had a reading light faced downwards, so I could see what I was doing with food etc. Most cars just passed and then one pulled up with full beam on ( my ignition and lights were off) glaring the light in my face. I was angry but equally couldn't see what they were doing, so did the same back to them and started my car incase I needed a swift exit. They finally got the hint and drove off but it was a couple, then we heard a funny noise coming from the field the other side of the hedge and my dog started acting weird so we went too. I ended up driving around till I found a more public but quiet space to spend the next few hours. Since then, I have just gone and booked somewhere overnight for us both to stay as that really did spook me.

I think you could do well by installing some hidden camera's on the outside which could be on while your'er away from the van. Someone could put an airtag tracker on your van and you wouldn't know it. If someone has seen you video's and know your living in the van, your van could be at risk. (we have an airtag in our car in the event it gets stolen)

Good idea but tbh theres no chance of someone taking it unless they know how to get past the Clifford system and the fuel cut off along with steering wheel locks and pedal box they would usually just move on the the next van 🤣 we have cameras fitted to the van now plus a bloody loud siren you will see them in the next vlog 🤣👌

I think if you extend the bed you will lose 60cm if you put the shower next to the wheel arch you should get 50cm of cupboard storage then u can do the L shaped seating just my thoughts

Mabey, you should give the location of the layby to warn other van lifers to stay away. This could be an uncomfortable place to stay. I want to convert a van into a rv, but I will be travelling on my own, and this is what I don't want. Too scarey for me.

Question for you? Would you recommend the sprinter and if you ever did sell your van would you buy another or something else. Thanks

I would reccomend any sprinter pre 2010 there amazing and if I was ever to sell it I would look for another sprinter around same age as mine mainly because these vans do the milage are cheap ish to repair and are build to be worked on unlike alot of other vans 👌 it took us 3 month to find one and when we did we have never looked back since

@@Steps2adventure you two are just too funny, but I forgot to say that the carpark is two mins down the hill from me, and I was walking my dog down there, i don't normally go down there, but it was a lovely evening, and I swear it was rammed with the dirty f@#£ers, it made me angry, cos ya get a lot of young ones down there drinking, there must've been about ten cars, there's another well known one at crook o lune, I don't know what it's like now, but when I was in my twenties it was rife, me and my mates used to go up there forra smoke, and the carpark was always rammed, make's me sick, I wouldn't share my missus with no one, sex is private, and you seem a lovely couple, but just watch what you're doing, that was playing with fire, and coulda turned bad, I know it's a giggle, but be careful, but good vid, thanks for posting 👌💯.

They are not doggers they are probably cruisers. They are gay men . I’ve had it a few times with them. It’s bloody annoying. Twice I’ve chased off a couple of these weirdos. Normally they pull up in front of you and reverse closer and closer signaling with their brake lights. Persistently annoying and making you feel on edge. Kent is the place to avoid.
