I would like to take this time to give honorable mention to Liz Tan who was 1st AD to Andy Serkis and 2nd unit. If you wanted to have a good shoot day, you really just had to do one thing. And that's LISTEN TO LIZ! She has had my total respect since day one! One of the strongest women that I've ever had the pleasure to work with, and I'm not alone in that opinion ❤

I'm pretty sure there are an f*ton of men and women that worked on the lotr and hobbit movies who's names are unknown. It would be nice to give them a shoutout too.

They don't care about that, they only care about women getting recognition, the whole "I am no man" should have clued you in on that.

That’s a great point, however that’s not the focus of this video and was not the focus of this panel.

If this becomes a thing at later conventions it’d be cool to have Fran and Philippa be able to attend and the other women who worked with them and Peter Jackson on the films and also the women who work behind the camera on The Rings of Power. Also shout-out to many of the women I remember from the behind the scenes such as dialect coach Leith McPherson, first AD and producer Caroline Cunningham, costume designers Ngila Dickson and Kate Hawley and so on.

Yes! Wouldn't that be amazing? We reached out to loads of women, many involved with the films, and many not (but still working to bring Middle-earth to life), but several either could not attend or did not want to be in the spotlight!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to bringing us Middle Earth to screen in the early 2000s. Of course it is bullshit that only men like LotR. And it great showing some of the women who were involved in creating these masterpieces. I have seen all the making ofs that are on the 4 DVD extended editions of the 3 movies so i know that it was big team effort. But it's true that is is shortened in the public eye to Peter Jackson and maybe some of the main actors. But that is true for all movies. Titantic is contributed to James Cameron. I am pretty sure even if i don't know that there were a lot of people involved and a lot of women. My main problem with female characters in recent productions and that seems to be the case in War of the Rohirim again judged by the trailer is that they have to be better in everything than all the male characters around them. God forbid them having any human weakness. I still consider Sarah Connor in T2 one of the best representations of a female character that kicks ass.. But she worked for that she trained to become strong and she is not invincible.

I agree with the criticism that many fall into the trap of writing a female character as "flawless," which speaks to a wider issue. Take Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean, for example. She is essentially 3+ women in one woman's body... this has long been used as a "shortcut" by storytellers to avoid including other women in the story. They put one front and center, have her be the love interest, the warrior, the beauty, and the brains, in an attempt to avoid criticism.
