I made a mistake and put it on to thick, I mean way to thick. This stuff was hard to sand down however, it wasn't a bad thing as it is a statement about how durable the topcoat really is. I called customer service and they gave me some pointers on how to fix it. I really put the top coat to the test because I knew I was going to sand it down a bit. WOW the durability is no joke. The only thing that scratched it was sandpaper! The final product turned out better then I expected. I would really like to see a video on how to fix mistakes regarding the top coat. Some examples could be if applied to thick, to thin, missing spots edge lines near backsplash and resurfacing over it with a new SCC design. Thanks for the video!

I did an ultimate topcoat in a glossy finish on a white marble dirty pour and it didn't dry to a clear coat. It took the glossy shine down a level and took the smoothness from the surface. Because of these results I decided not to put the ultimate topcoat on the bathroom vanity, so I can keep the smooth glossy look & feel.

@StoneCoatCountertops3 жыл бұрын
If you are looking to apply epoxy to granite or metal, it’s best to use a bonding primer to ensure that it will adhere correctly. We recommend using our bonding primer to prep surfaces. However, if you’re trying to apply a clear coat of product over your granite or metal, you can try XIM Peel Bond. This is a clear bonding primer that, when rolled on in one thin layer, can be nearly transparent. If you apply it thick it will haze, so keep it as thin as possible! After applying the bonding primer you can then apply the Stone Coat Countertop epoxy. This ensures you keep your overall metal look but give the surface a bit more protection. I would recommend sampling this technique on a small piece of spare metal just to ensure you get the results you are looking for.

Natural finish. Won't be glossy. Stone Coat recently began selling a gloss version, but they haven't done a comparison video yet. A different brand, Leggari, has offered similar finishes in natural and gloss for a good while now. Their gloss isn't bad at all, actually. Only con is that they sell larger volume, so testing it for oneself sets you back quite a bit.

I love you products and the top coat is very durable, but I hate the look. It turned a project that looked gorgeous into what appeared to be a cheap laminate. The guy in your video says it looks "Thicker" with the top coat. I couldn't disagree more. It makes it look very two dimensional and takes away all the subtlety and most of the complexity from the dirty pour. I highly recommend people just stick with the clear coat, or at the very least try the top coat out on a demo piece and see what you think before committing to the whole countertop.
