To be honest, I personally did not like either Harding or Kerrigan at all because of their immature and embarrassing behavior in the 1994 Winter Olympics. Harding should have been barred entirely from competition for her part in the attack on Kerrigan. Kerrigan should have been grateful that she was still able to perform after such a traumatic event and serious injury. Although I am American and initially rooted for Kerrigan, I was glad she did not win after seeing how bitchy her reaction to Baiul's gold medal was. It makes no difference to me if an athlete is from my own country, how talented they are, or if they are the favorite for the gold medal. An Olympic athlete is representing his or her country and I have no respect for anyone who cannot show good sportsmanship.

@chooseyourpoison5105
@chooseyourpoison5105 2 жыл бұрын
@@ericaswenson1034 "Serious injury?" She got a bruise, nothing more. She was back training within three days. And why should Kerrigan "be grateful" when the situation was none of her doing? Yes, Kerrigan was a bad sport and a whiny brat, but she's not the first person to show poor sportsmanship nor will she be the last - you have only to look at Valieva's and Scherbokova's behavior at the last Olympics to see that. As for Harding, she was never charged with anything more than conspiracy to hinder a prosecution, I.e. of attempting to cover for her husband after the event. Now, if even the FBI - you know, the guys who investigate crimes for a living - were not able to find evidence to charge her with anything more than that, it's likely because there was nothing to find. Yes, she should have gone to police the second she found out what her idiotic husband had done, but given the abusive nature of their marriage, I can understand why she didn't. Both Harding and Kerrigan were under incredible pressure at the time, and yes, both should have made smarter choices, but both were only human.

Two very emotional moments are missing 1) The end of Yulia’s career at Rostelecom 2016 2) Medvedeva’s reaction after her skate at the Olympics 2018. And Alina trying to hide her emotions in a doll also then.

@@vadzimsvirepa8515 if you see the video of Medvedeva’s skate you will see when the grades are shown, Alina hiding her face behind a doll in the moment she descovers she is the champion. He is talking about that, not the podium moment

@@vadzimsvirepa8515 There was no particular fault in her skating, she deliver as perfect skate as she could have. After being haunted by injuries she skated probably her best two programs at that moment, Alina was just simply impeccable at the Olympics. However, with that being said with the quality of Medvedeva's skating, she should be grateful to even have silver over Osmond. As much as I grown to like Evgenia, her marks were absurdly inflated.

I feel sorry for her going through so much abuse. I don't feel sorry for her career ending because she knew something awful would happen and did nothing about it. It's very simple to give someone a heads up, even with the fear of abuse lurking over you. A lot of the motivation of getting out of an abusive relationship or standing up to an abuser is when they decide to abuse someone other than just you, like your child or another person. Nancy is that other person motivation. She could have said something. She had plenty of opportunities. It's not like this was a competitor from a different country who had practice times she didn't know or a language she didn't speak. She decided to do nothing.

Tonya wanted attention and got it. At the cost of "real" skaters. We all laughed at her back in the day. She knew what she was doing!!!

I just don't have any respect for Tonya Harding, at all. For everyone else, I think you're all brave and talented to do this beautiful sport. Heck, I never even learned to do a cartwheel! Y'all are beautiful inside and out.

@@zeuskiller100 She did not "attack another skater," the assault was carried out by Shane Stant. Nor did Nancy Kerrigan "break her leg," she suffered bruising and no more.

@@zeuskiller100 I’m sorry but this is misinformation. She never attacked anyone. People presume she knew about the attack because she was in a relationship with the attacker. However, to my understanding, there is no proof of this and, contrary to what people think, couples do not tell each other everything, particularly when they are planning illegal activities.

So if they fall they're disqualified?
@chooseyourpoison5105
@chooseyourpoison5105 3 жыл бұрын
No, you're not disqualified but there is a deduction for not completing the jump, so falling usually means you can kiss winning goodbye. But in the case of not completing a jump because of equipment failure e.g. a blade or shoelace snapped, the skater may choose between starting again or continuing the routine from where they left off.

the context was even more emotional for Alina and her fans- it happened at the world championship, to that moment Alina has been winning every single competition(including Olympics) and she was basically a favorite to win the title. however, multiple falls kept her off the podium.
