To be honest, I personally did not like either Harding or Kerrigan at all because of their immature and embarrassing behavior in the 1994 Winter Olympics. Harding should have been barred entirely from competition for her part in the attack on Kerrigan. Kerrigan should have been grateful that she was still able to perform after such a traumatic event and serious injury. Although I am American and initially rooted for Kerrigan, I was glad she did not win after seeing how bitchy her reaction to Baiul's gold medal was. It makes no difference to me if an athlete is from my own country, how talented they are, or if they are the favorite for the gold medal. An Olympic athlete is representing his or her country and I have no respect for anyone who cannot show good sportsmanship.

@chooseyourpoison51052 жыл бұрын
@@ericaswenson1034 "Serious injury?" She got a bruise, nothing more. She was back training within three days. And why should Kerrigan "be grateful" when the situation was none of her doing? Yes, Kerrigan was a bad sport and a whiny brat, but she's not the first person to show poor sportsmanship nor will she be the last - you have only to look at Valieva's and Scherbokova's behavior at the last Olympics to see that. As for Harding, she was never charged with anything more than conspiracy to hinder a prosecution, I.e. of attempting to cover for her husband after the event. Now, if even the FBI - you know, the guys who investigate crimes for a living - were not able to find evidence to charge her with anything more than that, it's likely because there was nothing to find. Yes, she should have gone to police the second she found out what her idiotic husband had done, but given the abusive nature of their marriage, I can understand why she didn't. Both Harding and Kerrigan were under incredible pressure at the time, and yes, both should have made smarter choices, but both were only human.

I feel sorry for her going through so much abuse. I don't feel sorry for her career ending because she knew something awful would happen and did nothing about it. It's very simple to give someone a heads up, even with the fear of abuse lurking over you. A lot of the motivation of getting out of an abusive relationship or standing up to an abuser is when they decide to abuse someone other than just you, like your child or another person. Nancy is that other person motivation. She could have said something. She had plenty of opportunities. It's not like this was a competitor from a different country who had practice times she didn't know or a language she didn't speak. She decided to do nothing.
