I ran into a short of yours on how you extended the back of the boat by 3.5 feet creating a swim platform. Which I found impressive and very well done. I wanted to see a what the boat looked like before the upgrade, so I clicked on your channel's link. I picked this video, and I was able to see the back of your boat. I also enjoyed the ride through the Corinth canal. I have never seen it from that point of view. Safe travels and fair winds.

My wife does all the VHF and SSB communications, for two reasons: (i) a woman speaks at slightly higher (audio) frequency than a man, which the electronic's handles with less distortion; (ii) male officials (including freighter/tanker crews) invariably seem to respond more respectfully to a female.

Been through a few times, magic every time. I did a few Sunsail deliveries and returns in the 90s with my parents, we always went with a flotilla of Sunsail boats tucked behind a ship so I remember it as quite a thrilling experience going through the canal as a teenager. Gulf of Patras can get pretty rough in October for a return to Sivota. Worth visiting Messalonghi, where Lord Byron died.
@helmshardover4 жыл бұрын
This comment took me back. The 1st time I led a fleet through behind a freighter the canal authority told me to "follow closely". In turn, I told the fleet to "follow me closely". What I hadn't considered was the effect astern of the ship, given the canal is shallow as well as narrow. The surface water is being drawn toward the ship, and I was being drawn with it. I went into astern, then the boats close behind me, and the fleet of 13 got very tightly bunched up, very quickly! Focusses the mind when you're responsible for everyone's wellbeing...

i have been wondering if you could rig up a trolling motor for a small fishing boat that you could mount to the bow of the boat to control the front while docking and leaving the dock. then after you exit the dock then remove too stow.
@stephenburnage76874 жыл бұрын
I think the bow would be too high for a standard trolling motor but in Europe bow thrusters are far more common (because marina's squeeze boats in like sardines, unlike in the Americas).

When we went through the canal I could feel the history of about 2,000 years, with it first being considered as a way to connect the Agean with the Gulf of Corinth. Are you sure it's the most expensive canal for a sailboat? I would have guess the Panama canal to cost more than 260 Euros. Kudos to you both for such a fine, high quality and informative video.

@@SailingZephyr There aren’t so many canals so as to calculate a median price, per meter or per canal length or whatever. You also have to consider the opportunity cost, in other words, how much you would spend in diesel, time, food etc if you were to take the trip around the Peloponnese. I should expect that the cost for a motor boat would be higher, as the trip around would cost thousands of euros in fuel.

He did say per nautical mile. At the moment the Panama canal will cost round $1200 inclluding fees and line handlers and is about 50 miles including the lakes.. This cost also includes the locks. so is about $30 a nm/.The Corint is about $3oo for 2.5 nm so over $100 a nm.....we have a winner.

Most Expensive Canal in the World? Who ever is a true seaman and read this, can tell the truth. You obviously never cross Suez canal, or the Straits of Gallipoli... Did you? Instead of speading arround fake news against Greece & Greeks, and you dont want to pay for canals, marinas, etc...You can go to Lefkada and chart you sail boat directly from there, so you will get away with paying a canal fee, (ofcourse the charter price is going to be a bit more expensive than athens), but if anyone told you that yachting is cheap, either he lied, or he was just making a bad joke, and he laughs now watching your video. Except if he was telling you about life rafts, which are really cheap. You complaining about how Corinth canal authority personnel, treated you? Wait to see how Turkish and Egyptians are going to treat you when you are going to approach their marine facilities... Let me give you a free tip: just keep with you onboard while on st/by their canal, 10-15 botles of whisky, and 25-30 boxes of cigarettes, to give as "bakhsis" tip to anyone who will aboard you vessel, without permission... (from pilots and port police to random smelly fishermen) or you will wait there forever, ofcourse if they found anything "illegal" you will never leave the country, and noone is going to keep a "blind eye" for you as a turist. Appart all these accusations for Greece, I hope you had a nice holiday. And yes I m a greek seaman, as you already understood. 1-6
