For me, to this day, the most feared and intelligent mobster was Anthony Accardo (Big Tuna). He was the boss of the Chicago Outfit mob. A true killer and a true leader, he lived a quiet and secret life running the crime enterprise for more then 20 years and died of old age without a single day spent in prison, now thats a real old school mobster. Santino Cafarella - Agreed. Gotti was obviously a highly effective street level gangster, who ran a highly effective street crew. Just didn’t have the white collar understanding and approach necessary for the top level. Castellano lacked the street level connection, Gotti lacked the white collar style. An effective boss needs to be able to operate at both levels.
