Bullseye Snakeheads are an invasive fish species that were introduced illegally into South Florida in the early 90's. Since then they have flourished and spread into 3 new counties! These fish originate in SE Asia where are a delicacy. Although they look freaky and live in canals, these fish make excellent table fare!

I am far from a frog “expert” but my experience is that when I failing to hook up it has more to do with me needing to delay the hook set so they can take it fully into their mouths than it does with short strikes.

When I first heard about the snake head and started pursuing them with one of my buddies, we had a debate that it’s not that effective on destroying the bass population and I agreed, but now after a few years and going back to the East Coast and fishing them more and more I really noticed the impact now they are definitely eating and destroying majority of the breeding habitat for largemouth bass and spawning largemouth bass

Bend your hooks out, spro makes their frog with the hook points pushed into the body. Need to bend them out so the frog is able to sway inside of the hooks. Your hook up ratio will drastically change. Also try dropping your rod and letting them take it more. I know it’s exciting and the anticipation kills you but you just gotta make yourself calm down and drop your rod and let them take it. Good luck 🤘🤘

Instead of throwing away the pinbone section cut out (when you have a large catch of fish), you could simmer it to make soup stock, and then strain the rest and then feed the canal fish with it. It looks like a good amount of meat that is thrown away; though I realize because of the bones it can't be used for a filet or anything. Also, I've noticed when pressure cooking a chicken carcass, that the bones change consistency and crumble like a half cooked dried bean... maybe pressure cooking the pinbone section would make the pinbones completely disintegrate, and then the whole pinbone section could be used.

Personally that’s a stupid reason to release an invasive. Us as fisherman that love our waterways should do anything we can to preserve them. Wanting to keep them as a sport fish is ignorant, should we release piranhas because they are fun to catch? No, your not making the problem worse but your certainly not doing your part as a conservationist. Which every fisherman should be

These are not Northern Snakeheads, the Florida Bullseye Snakeheads are not a destructive species and haven’t been found to be a threat to the native species in the last 24+ years living here in Broward and Palm Beach. Same thing people say about carp. “Its a fun game fish” when with how I look at it, that fish is taking away a spot for a native fish to grow and that would also be a fun game fish, and even if it wouldnt be a fun game fish the reality is that getting rid of an invasive species is objectively a good thing.

I lived in South Florida for 30 years. Mainly the Fort Lauderdale area West. I know every Canal system there is. And I can tell you by far the best bait to use for snakeheads is rubber lizards. Varying sizes and colors it doesn't matter they hit instinctively with them little legs flapping from them lizards. I wouldn't even bother going out there with them frogs. And by the way anybody who does not know they are one of the most delicious freshwater fish you could ever catch. Including without a doubt including I would take it over any spec anytime. Delicious long beautiful fillets. No reason to even bleed them but if you want to go ahead. But when you eat them you will be so surprised that you've been throwing them away all the time you've been fishing. And I agree with his statement that some people think they are ugly they are very beautiful fish. Give it a try I promise you will not be disappointed.

On overcast days and early mornings, top water frogs will do better. Once it heats up near noon is when peak time for snakeheads feeding. You’ll do better top water weed less swim baits. If possible, try to keep the boat to one side so you can work the entire bank in one retrieval. Slow down a bit when you see the pot holes. Once you see the strike/blow up, wait 2 seconds and set the hook hard. They have a hard top mouth. And yeah rain is best for the top water frogs as it mimics the monsoon season in Vietnam perfectly.

It's much easier to keep them under control than it is to damage control after they Go Big and replace everything else. If you feel bad about "wasting" the extras, head to your local zoo, animal rescue, animal rehabilitator or gator park, they'll put every one you give them to good use.

They and their meat seem very similar to the bowfin, convergent evolution i suppose

Bro by the way a trick to catch bullseye snake heads is to use a red hook and a plastic frog you shouldn't miss a fish.love the video.

Vik, I think the monotonous soundtrack throughout the greater part of the video is not really necessary. Doesn’t add anything to the content. The soundtrack covering the cooking part of the video is actually nice. It’s just my personal opinion. Others may agree or disagree.

I would say making sure you touch up the sharpening job on the hooks, with the snake heads having such a hard mouth structure a razor sharp hook makes a difference... Also i would try adding a second set of hooks and have the double hook set up on each side like on a big bass or pike bait.... ( If that is aloud where your fishing that is ) I cant remember if they make any frogs with that double hook set up.... Or i was wondering if you have tried one of those white mice lures, i would imagine they would smash it just like they do everything else that goes by them..... Keep them lines tight Brother and thank you for all the stellar fishing content you are an amazing angler !!!!
