Dolce and Gabbana ...I had the Bottle when it first came out. I loved that colone more than anything I ever had. It had a "take me away" vibe....everyone asked me what it was. I ran out....never been able to replace it

Caron pour un homme will always have a special place for me. You could say it helped launch my career. My boss loved it and I gifted a bottle to him one Christmas and he was thrilled with it.

Great video! I look forward to the second part. I’m collecting these types of fragrances right now. I did think that Drakkar Intense was unrelated to Drakkar Noir though? I thought it was supposed to be an Intense take on the very original Drakkar. That’s what I heard somewhere?
@benl59465 күн бұрын
Drakkar Intense smells completely different, and, despite its name, is less intense than even the reformulated Drakkar Noir imo

Some great picks here. Haven't tried all of them (might try to snap up the Lauders while they're still available) but still some favorites on this list for sure. I'll never be without the original Paco Rabanne for as long as it or I are around (whichever comes first.) Some great fragrances from that house (my 50ml of Tenere is one of the jewels of my collection) and really a disgrace that they took his first name off the brand name before his body was cold. Loewe is also a great house that deserves way more respect than it gets and Escencia is the embodiment of "green." Jules is spectacular but I would say near Kouros-level daring these days. Looking forward to part 2!

Interesting that you chose Cool Water over Zino from Davidoff. Cool water is more aquatic than fougere imo, while Zino is the stereotypical fougere.

More interesting he didn’t include Acqua di Parma Colonia. It is waay more fougere than Cool Water.

Zino has little, if anything, in common with every other fougere on this list. It's not a typical fougere at all.

Not sure if it’s a fougere. I think it’s more woody aromatic but Tabac Original from Maurer and Wirtz is so iconic as a barbershop scent that I would put it up there too. The best part is it still maintains the same formulation. From what I know. Good list though!

A very good selection that would be a great shopping list for any alpha male. My sole correction would replace Versace Dreamer with Alfred Dunhill for Men, from 1936. Dreamer smells really watered down and cheap whereas Dunhill, which smells absolutely nothing like Dreamer is an absolute powerhouse of citrus and spice.
@benl59465 күн бұрын
I always have a bottle of Drakkar Noir. I find it’s a great gym fragrance. But, I would be in the market for a fougere that should be sweeter and stronger. Suggestions?
@justaddlight5 күн бұрын
I've been saying the same thing about the new D&G PH for over a decade. 😄 They yanked that sweetness right out and replaced it with Tide powdered detergent. 😂 I do like the newest Boss Number One though in the modern bottle. There's less of it to be sure, but I think they refined some of the rougher edges so it's slightly better balanced imo.

Dolce and Gabbana was my signature scent in the 90s… Neutered is the perfect word to describe what they’ve done to it. My solution is that I layer it with the Dolce and Gabbana Intenso EDP and I think it gets as close as possible to the 90s version

Sebastian , did you own the original Versace The Dreamer formulation? I remember it very vividly because it was my first big splurge back in 2000-01. I was really pumped to smell so many people wearing it like 10 years ago until I realized they were wearing One Million. No one seems to remember that the original formulation is very close to the Million dry down. The new formulation is completely different 😭😭

Some say Le Male is inspired by (or possibly a homage to) Cuba Gold, which is from 1979. They do smell quite similar.
@heric_5 күн бұрын
I think that story is false, as no one can actually prove that '79 is the year Cuba Gold was released. I think it's just a marketing story made up by a company that specializes in replicas ... that's all.
@raulsaavedra7095 күн бұрын
@@heric_ The exact year of the release is not critical. If it's not exactly 79, that still leaves many many years before 95 when Le Male was released. I guess there must be some evidence and records (sufficient number of people's anectodes) about Cuba Gold existing way before 1995.

FYI: to my nose, the drydown of the modern Azzaro Pour Homme smells identical to the drydown of Quorum. The openings are quite different, but the anise doesn’t last long in any case. There’s a big difference in cost, the former being four times the price where I am.

I might be wrong but a think a part of this narrative about perfumery being watered down is perhaps a misconception. In the 80s and 90s and even the 00s the fragrances were more potent but some were probably due to less regulation. In my understanding perfumery today is more safe because a lot of ingredients were possible unsafe or hormone disruptive. Personally I would like to choose oak moss even though it has a higher chance of allergy reaction but I am sure some of the the things they put in those powerhouses were straight up “lethal” (maybe not lethal but you get my point). I mean lead in tapestry and asbestos in the walls wasn’t the way to go and neither 😂 It would be interesting to listen to some of the big players in this game to get a better insight in a somewhat closed industry 🤓

To me, barbershop fragrances aren't aromatic fougeres, they are powdery, lightly floral, etc. like talcum powder.
