Update : I've been using this for a couple months and the design flaws have started to show. The whole piece is held together with two end screws that slide around a lot causing the shark fin pieces to pop out of the board. The T-Bolt head (and I mention this in the video) is just too small so tightening anything down takes a couple of tries because the head of the bolt keeps popping out the track. And the bolts are starting to get in the way of the laser head because they are so long. I think this could be a really cool and useful bed for engraving, but with the cost, those design changes would really help. Personally having used this it is not something I would spend money on until the design was perfected.

Always a joy watching you struggle with this warping issue. I am sure I would have given up long ago. I have had several ideas but nothing that would perform any better in my opinion.

The pins are made to go all the way down to the surface of the honeycomb. The split in the pin is just to give some flex to fit in the honeycomb. Not sure if i can post it but have a file for longer pins. Might be possible to use the pins in concert with the aluminum bars.... Just a thought.... Nicely done...

Yeah, the pins I have hit the table before securing the work piece for the thinner stuff. The other issue I have had with the pins is the tension isn't always enough to keep them in place. And especially on the stuff that warps a lot they just pull out of the bed.

@@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks Yeah I noticed the honey comb was close to the table. I’ve done some thin stuff and haven’t got it figured out yet. I use transfer tape (used in vinyl decals) to minimize the discoloration from the smoke, works wonderfully.

Another great idea and base plate for the laser engraving. Thanks for the video. This is an amazing resource for wood workers

I wonder if a vacuum-base to hold items (and remove fumes) would work?

That would work amazingly I bet, but I believe they are quite expensive.

We also use honeycomb to keep the back burn down.

I have the honeycomb. I need to make some hold down pieces. The ones I ordered were too big.

The file I bought for the pins works well, but has it's limitations for sure. I've had more success with this bed.

You might try using small magnets to hold down your material, just a thought.

Aluminum is non-ferrous. Otherwise Yes, magnets would be easiest way to keep things flat.

@@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks True, on the xTool honeycomb I use magnets work fine. By the way I Really Enjoy your videos ;-)

Not complaining because all these were given to me for free in exchange for a video review, but damn now I’m jealous. All mine are aluminum, that would easily be the quickest solution.

Yeah; on my honeycomb the material of the mesh is steel, so thin magnets work.

SIMPLY CUT SEVERAL WASHERS OF DIFFERENT THICKNESS AND PLACE THEM ON THE BOLT BETWEEN THE FRAME AND THE PLATE YOU ARE CLAMPING WITH, SO THAT THE HEIGHT IS A LITTLE HIGHER THAN THE MATERIAL

169 / 5,000 Resultados de traducción Traducción Caitlin has worked for me sticking the sheet metal or thin material to a rigid base with double-sided tape, it takes more work to peel it off but it works quite well.😉

I used to use double sided tape, but the build up of burnt materials and glue from the plywood over the months makes it so the tape does not adhere well to the bed anymore. But, yes this worked great before that happened.
