PROTIP: Get a big pot of water and throw it on the stove. Get it to a good simmer and fill your machine up with that. The biggest difference between these vac style cleaners and truck units are heat and suction. TO make up for the suction just be sure to make several passes without shooting water, for the heat, use the tip i gave you.

A janitorial supply store has really good quality carpet extraction cleaner (shampoo) at a good price, even Lowes has some for around ten bucks a gallon that will do an amazing job on carpets. The stuff I use mixes at 1-2 oz per gallon of water. BTW the dirty water you get out of the carpet is nothing compared to the sludge in my carpets and its also a rental. You may also pre-treat traffic areas with a stain formula (spray it on with a weed sprayer) allow it to work for a few minutes before cleaning the carpets.... Thanks for your experience cleaning carpets with Tide
@nlcrme6 жыл бұрын
You are actually not using the steam cleaner correctly. You are going back and forth like you are using a regular vacuum cleaner. You are to slowly go forward using your spray to saturate and then slowly go back over the same area using spray. Then you slowly (operative word, slowly) go in the same direction forward and back with just the suction on. You do this in straight lines with 1 inch overlapping until carpet is done. Then, if you really want it clean you will load fresh water only, saturate going forward and back slowly in a straight line, then go forward and back slowly twice with suction only. This is the key to perfect and long lasting clean carpet and they will dry quicker. Adding the fresh water step sounds like a royal pain but it removes all of the cleaning solution residue from your carpet which will help to maintain its cleanliness. Leaving cleaning solution residue on your carpet will act as a dirt magnet and your carpets will be dirty again in one week. I can't stress enough about the going slowly. This allows the rotating bristles to do their job and lift all the dirt and stains up from the root of the fiber. They way you were going fast, back and forth, not in a straight line will only allow you to clean to top of the carpet fibers. If you only clean the top fibers then you still leave behind the original ground in dirt which will show the once it dries and you will have done all that hard work for nothing. Also, the best recipe for cleaning carpets is to use oxy powder, AJAX dishwasher liquid, Isopropyl Alcohol, windex (or any glass cleaner) and hot tap water mixed together. This is hands down the absolute full proof mixture. It will lift anything and everything and make your house smell great because you can buy AJAX in whatever smell you like...lavender, orange, lime, etc. Give this a try and I promise you will not be disappointed. If anyone wants the measurements of ingredients let me know. I use this in a spray bottle to pretreat tough stains like red wine, ketchup, grease and oil, etc. It works like magic and is completely safe for carpets in your home or automobiles.
@gregsimpson6216 жыл бұрын
The two best things you said is to go slow. The second best is to do twice; once with soad and then once with water only. It's the same principal as a clothes washing machine, which the last thing that is done is a rinse cycle. To remove the soap or detergent which will otherwise attract dirt to the carpet.

For sure. Most people don't understand just how much soap is left in the carpet when using one of these machines. I keep going over the carpet until the water is not foaming up anymore in the collection reservoir. This makes sure you get all of the soap out of the carpet. It takes a lot of water but stuff will stay cleaner longer this way.
@dl79195 жыл бұрын
You might also try using Windex (regular...not the vinegar formula. ) Be sure to do a color fast test first. I've gotten stains out with Windex in my home shampooer that my Professional Guy with a high heat steamer didn't get out. A carpet installer who was also a carpet saleman for decades gave me the Windex hint years ago. He said... too much carpet cleaning soap attracts more dirt and Windex leaves it clean and it evaporates. Also, the ammonia the Windex is the right strength to disinfect. However, I think I'll try your method soon... I like the smell of Tide so I'm going to try it next time I shampoo carpets. Thanks for the video!

we clean our carpets every month, due to the light tan-ish color they are, dirt shows up really bad if we skip a month. But this said, I have a bit of experience carpet cleaning with our hoover cleaner and I have to say, seeing you cleaning the carpet back and forth fast as if you were running a vacuum cleaner had me on the floor literally. If I cleaned like that, I would have to go over the same area several times, as opposed to going slowly and getting better results quicker. Just my 2 cents.
@nlcrme6 жыл бұрын
If you have to clean your carpets once a month then they aren't being done correctly. Key elements: 1. Go slow...very slow...with saturation on forward and back. Let the agitator bristles do their job. (Pretreat and bad stains 1st) Also, vacuum before steaming. 2. Then go slowly back and forth with suction only. Do this twice. 3. Use Fresh water only and do step one slowly slowly. 4. Then do step 2 with suction only...twice Now make sure you always always go in a straight line. Use a 1/2 to 1 inch overlap when going to the subsequent lines. Now, once your carpets are perfectly dry you can buy a Scotch Guard Spray that works like an absolute dream. We have bright white carpet in one of my rooms and it looks flawless even when red wine was spilled on it. I have become a master at finding the beat way to clean carpets because of that white carpet....when it's time to replace I'm going to try a soft cream instead. Good luck and I hope this helps you. I hate to hear you having to do all that hard work once a month. Carpets should only be cleaned once every 12 to 18 months. Any more than that and you will have to replace as it will destroy the fibers and all you will be left with is a pad.

It looks the same because it's brown. Well a bit of advice. Ok I just cleaned my elderly friends carpet in two rooms with the SAME Hoover. Her carpet is being and old. I had liquid cleaner solution for carpet cleaners but was running out so I used a little Pinalen in with it which helps get spots out of carpets. Worked very well. Now, growing up as a teenager my mother had a industrial type carpet cleaner and she taught is to use hot water. (She used boiled water and poured for us when she taught us) So, I put hot water from a pot with 1/3 tap with solution in tank. When you start, press button and move back and forth maybe in about a 1-2 ft area then when you go back set brush at power scrub and take your time going back over the floor to scrub going up and pick up as much water coming back. ( If you look at the spot on the bottom tank that catches the dirty water you can see when the water stops flowing...then you know you have gotten up all the water. Do the WHOLE room this way. If you don't like you did, you will have longer drying time, and can end up with water trapped to long and bad smells if house is very hot. Cleaning a say 12 x 12 room with a Hoover will take around 45min to an hour with dumping dirty water and refilling cleaner tank. Of course the water will be dirty...dirt + water= dark. However, if you don't know if the carpet is vacuumed often, vacuum first then clean.

Yea - hate to say it, but this is NOT a vacuum. You need to go slowly. Your sucking the water up as soon as you put it down. Basically - the way youre using it - most of what is being picked up is the same stuff that a regular vacuum would also pick up. Its just dumping and mixing that dirt with the water as its being sucked into the tank. Going slow allows the water to penetrate, loosen up more dirt, and extract. As far as the tide goes - i had this exact idea and just haven’t tired it myself yet. The carpet shampoo is just a low foaming cleaner. Same as laundry detergent in my eyes. For anyone at home “thinking” its gonna hold in more dirt- i think thats an insane thought #1. #2 - you could always go over the carpet again with just water if it makes you feel better.

Hi, instead of using expensive carpet cleaner solution just use laundry detergent. The soap that cleans your clothes will also clean your carpets. If you see suds then use less soap. The brand of machine makes no difference, they all work the same way they spray the solution on and you suck it up. There, my video is done.

Using laundry soap will leave the carpet filmy white vinegar will do the job!

How do you get rid of the nasty vinegar smell?
@imapotato47725 жыл бұрын
Cecilia M usually the smell disappears when the vinegar drys or like a couple of hours later
@pinkorganichorse5 жыл бұрын
@@ceciliam8697 there's no nasty vinegar smell.
@jon83674 жыл бұрын
Vinegar destroy the valves inside the machine. Only use vinegar if you are doing a manual (no machine vacuum) job.

I think you should've pushed and pull that machine slowly.

Just purchased one and used it however I'm not sure what happened The water solution went out the brushes scrubbed great but there was no water extraction going into the tank WHAT AM i MISSING
@NachoAverageGigi7 жыл бұрын
you have to let go of the trigger to have the dirty water extract back into the machine. So, hold the trigger for two back and forth, then let go of the trigger and do a back and forth like a vacuuming.

Not to mention these home machines dont have proper suction to avoid wicking but bet she doesn't know what wicking is either the padding underneath is probably staying and no good

I have the same carpet cleaner. I dont buy solution I use tide. Always have..it works so so well. We rent. I had no idea tenants didnt clean their carpet. That is weird and gross. We do about twice a year. And if something is spilled the carpet cleaner to the rescue lol. The owning the machine is nice. I would like one with heat. We used to have one but lost the piece you put solution in. And I couldnt buy a replacement.

why work for someone else for minimum wage when you can buy some cleaning supplies, establish an online presence, make much more money and be your own boss?

That cleaner looks a lot like the one we just got. The instructions called for 5 oz. of the cleaner that came with it. And then...... I wouldn't let my daughter sleep in her room for 5 nights. The smell was so bad it was choking us. Miserable odor.
@frugalgreengirl8 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry! I hated the chemical cleaner that came with mine also. Thus the experimentation for alternatives started. Not to mention buying more of it was like $15 for a medium sized bottle...
