5:14 then after Jobs passed away in 2011, technology evolved. We now have an Apple Pencil, bigger iPads, and huge jumps in discoveries pertaining to technology. Some of them are “meh” like removing the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 onward and the iPhone 15 being notorious for breaking easier. The iphone15 was changed build wise to be easier to repair if you broke the phone

Steve Jobs is described by some people as possibly autistic. Other possible diagnoses I have seen are Antisocial Personality Disorder, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Unless he had an official diagnosis we do not know which of these conditions he had if any.

Charles Darwin forgetting to eat fits (which makes it technically possible that he was autistic) but it’s still not one of the diagnostic criteria. Maybe he had a different condition or a high pain threshold (or both).

Technically speaking Temple Grandin’s initial diagnosis was “brain damage”. It was only some time later that she was correctly diagnosed with autism and even later Asperger’s specifically. It took a long time for her to receive a correct diagnosis. I would need to review her first book to see just how long it took, though.

Many people seem to think that Dirac had either autism or schizophrenia but they are not sure which. The mathematician Georg Cantor is also sometimes described this way. However with the Transfinite Cardinals (such as aleph-null and aleph-one) being such an abstract concept some people doubt that Cantor was on the spectrum.

Some amazing people, there have been so many amazing people throughout the ages who most likely where Autistic, but we will never know for sure, but I think it’s brilliant to think that although these people where never diagnosed, because nobody knew what Autism was back then. But each of them lived their lives and contributed to the society of their times, in their ways and without them our world would not be as it is today. All because of Autistic people.

You can still have autism and understand social ques you might just not know how to be in social situations and ocd can be an overlapping disorder for repetitive behaviors and a problem with communication could be needing time to process what is being asked. So sometimes an autistic person will have all these 3 deficits that you mentioned but they are not always recognized in this way. So for example I have all 3 deficits but you can’t readily see them in me but they are an internal struggle for me. I m not good at writing or expressing myself perfectly so hope this makes sense what I wrote.

I always wonder why my mom was awkward in social situations. She always seemed to mask her social anxiety with unusual happiness but now I understand why it is so difficult for some people to socialize. She was diagnosed with severe depression at one point of her time. We could never figure out why she was so sensitive to little things. Any trivial matter could trigger her depression in the past. Now I empathize with her when my daughter was diagnosed with autism. I think world has become a better place for autistic individuals because of the awareness spread by influential autistic people. In the past, autism was certainly associated with intellectual disability and if a person were intellectually smart, people would sweep his autism under the carpet.

If it runs in the family, and you notice older family members along the family line (your mom’s siblings, her parent and their siblings, etc) with signs of Parkinson’s, ataxia, dementia, mental health issues…you may want to consider getting tested for Fragile-X Syndrome. Do large ears come with the autism? Hyperextensive joints such as fingers? Flat feet? These are signs consistent with Fragile-X Syndrome, but absence of them…especially in females…do not rule out Fragile-X Syndrome.

@@7Aheadfamily They don’t necessarily have large ears and /or flat feet. Those are signs and symptoms of Fragile-X, but everyone with Fragile-X full mutation is different. Newton forgetting to eat could indicate autism or it could indicate a high pain threshold or some type of undiagnosed central or peripheral nervous system condition that may have affected his sensory nerves. Any neurologists reading this might have their own hypotheses about some of the other conditions that might explain this specific detail about Newton.

The “Not using hand gestures when speaking” one only applies to some people on the spectrum. For example my sister and I are both on the spectrum but my sister uses more hand gestures when she speaks than the average American. On the other hand I fit the stereotype more closely of not using hand gestures when I speak. The other ones seem to be mostly accurate.

Technically without Steve Jobs we might still have Smartphones. If we did they would be running either Android, Linux, Windows, or (less likely) the OS that was running on some Blackberry phones. If Palm had been able to survive they might have even been able to develop a successful smartphone. In any case this idea was “in the air” already as some people say.

Do Ezra and Simon often have a hard time telling someone’s tone (aka detecting sarcasm)? I couldn’t tell if one of my coworkers was joking when she said I was “nosy” (it was a 😂😂 moment/her joking around as I had remembered her boyfriend’s name after I saw her with the Snapchat app opened on her phone texting him. Ezra and Simon do have a difficult time understanding social cues especially sarcasm. We don't use sarcasm very much in our house. and I don't know if your coworker was joking or not, it would depend on her face expression and tone of voice. It's difficult to understand sometimes.

I see autism as intellectually bipolar. It’s like we have two extremes of intellectual abilities (social or cognitive) with something lacking in the middle. Whereas neurotypical people seem to be even-keeled across the board. Furthermore, I see neurotypicals as the ones with the problems. But that’s just how I see it…not saying that’s how it is.

@@7Aheadfamily As a child, it was all the name calling (R-words), bullying, flicking my ears (I have large ears, a sign of Fragile-X), kicking, tripping, etc. I even had a few teachers who were bullies. I must not have been a loving and popular child. As an adult, it’s hard to say. Even though I was developmentally delayed in walking, talking, bike riding, and got poor grades, was in an LD program from Jr. high up, and kids called me the R-word, and I was diagnosed as an adult with ADD, OCD, anxiety, depression, bipolar, anorexia, trichotillomania, etc., I didn’t know I was autistic. I had to be psychologically tested before entering the LD program, which resulted in the doctor stating I was love deprived, emotionally immature, had social issues (not sure the term he used), which, back then a female would not get an autistic diagnosis (so I imagine that was the closest diagnosis to autism I would’ve had). I now look back at my life and everything makes sense. I can’t unsee the autism in me. But I don’t really go out much, and I don’t think I scream “autism” to people around me these days. I look like just another person. My fashion wouldn’t get me on the cover of Vogue, but I don’t stim, or yell (though I will fight back if I’m overcharged) But if anything annoys me, it’s not neurotypicals, per se. It’s people in general: hearing them chew, breathe, seeing peoples’ skin touch ing (like two people wearing sleeveless shirts hugging), people talking to me while I’m trying to work on something, people cutting me off mid-sentence just because they’ve heard me talk about the same subject over and over, people lying to me, trying to take advantage of me (overcharging or double charging), etc. but these can be anyone…not just neurotypicals. If they annoy me, it’s not because I’m autistic or they are typical; it’s just them being human. It doesn’t happen often, but I hate being invited to a function then they go off and mingle, leaving me alone and feeling like I want to crawl in a hole and dehydrate into nothing. This is when I go to the restroom and hang out there until we’re ready to go. As for whether they actually believe I’m autistic: it doesn’t bother me. I’m just glad I have found answers that help me make sense of what’s been going on all my life. I’m thankful I wasn’t diagnosed autistic from the psychiatrist that labeled me “love deprived”, “emotionally immature”, and socially dysfunctional (or whatever he said). That would’ve given my classmates all kinds of ammunition and confirmation that I, indeed, was “R-worded”. And those who have known me all my life do seem to take my revelation of autism seriously. In fact, my daughter first came to me to tell me she was autistic, and I went on the internet to prove her wrong. Instead, I discovered I was autistic…and so are many people in the family. I do not appreciate being accused of never calling, when I do answer the phone every time they call me. I just hate initiating phone calls. I hate being accused of doing something wrong, then I’m left feeling guilty and trying to convince them and myself that I didn’t do what they accused me of doing.

Its about autistic capacity for action and transformation, it really matters what happens to each person. I dont mean to glorify his evil actions in any way. I hope this doesnt upset you. I heard somewhere that one of the reasons Asperger's was taken out of the DSM was because there was no discernible difference between some individuals with an autism diagnosis and some with an Asperger's diagnosis. I agree the current labels are confusing, though. We'll see what they come up with in the DSM-VI. 🤷

Do we actually know if Elon Musk was officially diagnosed by a professional or whether he took one of several online tests (such as What is your AQ) and self-diagnosed? I am skeptical of any announcements made on Saturday Night Live. For me, that series (while entertaining) is about as credible as the satirical publication known as The Onion. Elon Musk has some ideas that no other person said to be on the spectrum has (such as the idea that we are living in a simulation). It is almost like he is confusing the real world with a virtual world (like Lyoko on Code Lyoko, or the Matrix in the Matrix movies). There are several well-known scientists who have completely debunked the simulation hypothesis. They shouldn’t need to, though because if we were living in a simulation we would not have any genuine thoughts, feelings, or consciousness. Also the simulation hypothesis only works if one assumes that he or she is the only individual who is genuinely conscious and that everyone else is merely an automaton. Otherwise the cpu and memory requirements needed to run such a simulation would make it impossible, impractical,or at least extremely expensive (in terms of energy requirements). In short, this hypothesis does not match up with reality.
