MOST INSANE 30 mins of frog fishing! (ABSOLUTE DEBACLE!!)

By far the most insane 30 minutes of frog fishing in my life! In a tiny little area of mat we had at least 20 bites. Four bites on the same cast may be a new record for me! The bass were aggressive, but weren’t able to get the frog well enough to hook up with many. Most of the fish we did catch were barely hooked. What frog should we try next?

For me, when it comes to frogging. Sexy strike King frog is what I use to throw. They are soft and never failed me once.

Those are for sure one of my favorite frogs! They collapse super well. Only bad thing with it being so soft is one bite from a pike or bowfin and it’s toast. Everything has its pros and cons 😂

I threw scum frogs when I started out bass fishing and I loved them. They were cheap and they worked. The original scum frog is a little lighter than a “typical” hollow body frog so you sacrifice some casting distance. The hooks aren’t premium like a higher level frog, but there is a reason they are affordable. I haven’t tried the newer versions like the pro or trophy version, so I can’t speak much to those.

Just purchased this frog not long ago but haven’t used it yet. I thought it felt soft. What fury rod model are you using? Been looking at getting a fury.

I think the Swamp Lord is soft but compared to a Sexy frog or pad crasher it’s just a tad firmer. But I love my Fury rods! For frogging and heavy jigs I have a 7’3” mag heavy fast. Very useful when you are dragging a fish in with 3 pounds of mat with it.

@@robwright3064 I have two fury casting rods and one fury spinning rod and love them all. They are a little lighter in action and power than some other rods so I would try to buy it in person if possible. I have a medium heavy fast that seems more medium moderate. A 3/8 mini max chatterbait can put quite a bend in the rod 😂

I find frogs that are more stiff, which you alluded to in the beginning, suck and don't get as many bites hooked.

I certainly agree in most situations. When I fish areas with lots of pike I sacrifice and use a more sturdy frog because losing a $10 bait on every pike bite is no fun 😂

Scum Frogs are much more durable than the swamp lord but it gets bit. Sorta like a pad crasher. Great for bites but not durable. Check out scum frogs - I've caught upwards of 50 fish on frogs that still float. I like the 5/8 oz trophy/popping trophy/ launch/launch xs Also an American Baitworks company - Snag Proof - Bobby's Perfect/Phat Frog/Zoo Pop/Zoo Pup/Zoo Dog are all incredibly durable and American made products. Someone else mentioned the scum frogs, and I have only used their original frog. I’ll have to look at some of their higher level stuff. Thanks for the recommendation!

For sure a good idea! I usually bend mine a little, but fishing the thick mats when it would flip over it would just grab all the grass, pads , and algae. And trying set a hook with your points covered in that is basically useless.
