In terms of Japanese cars holding their value... a stock MkIV Supra Turbo will fetch 50 to 90 grand, depending on condition. The trick of course is finding one stock, as 98% of them have either been tuned to within an inch of their lives, wrapped around telephone poles, or both. The early 90s Acura (or Honda I suppose on your side of the pond) Integra GSR will fetch around 30 grand -- again if you can find one that wasn't crashed and/or stolen and stripped.

American muscle cars were designed to be powerful and fast but in a straight line. Street racing was part of muscle car culture and that did not involve curves. You pulled up alongside another muscle car at a traffic light, exchanged a stare challenge and when the light turned green....There was never any emphasis on handling. It was all about the power.

The first Camaro was NOT "born in the '70s" as stated. The gold colored car displayed in the video IS the first year for Camaro. That year was 1967, as GMs response to the super successful Mustang, introduced by Ford at the 1964 World's Fair..The Mustang exceeded the less than 100,000 per year projected unit sales in the first 3 months and sold its 1 millionth unit in 18 months.

American muscle cars have their levels. Camaro's big bad brother is the Corvette ($70-125K). Mustang's big bad brother is the Ford GT ($250-500K). Challenger's big bad brother is the Viper ( no longer made, so varies). The Ford GT is the rarest and is basically a race car tuned for the street with Ferrari type custom, hand built carbon fiber. The Corvette C8 Z06 at $125K+ will kick a Ferrari to the curb for half or a third of the price. If you're horsepower obsessed buy the Hennessey versions out of Texas of all these cars - 800-1200 horsepower and lots of chassis refinements.

@@willvr4 At some of these torque levels it becomes difficult to impossible to source a manual transmission that will survive the warranty period. It's the difference in tooth contact between helical spur gears in manuals and planetary gears in autos, as well as the shock reduction of the latter.
@willvr4
@willvr4 Жыл бұрын
@@mfree80286 That makes sense, especially if you're not great at shifting. I just really miss driving manual, I learned on manual cars and my first 2 cars were Mitsu 3000gt's, one was a VR-4. It's been ages since I've even been in a manual car. I just don't miss them in traffic lol
@mfree80286
@mfree80286 Жыл бұрын
@@willvr4 It's not even about the shifting so much as you're only going to have at most 3 teeth (probably) in contact in a manual transmission, but the planetary sets in autos will have many more than that because of multiple planet gears and helical cuts... 5 planets in a set, 15 teeth or more touching to transfer the power at any given contact zone. It's the reason big truck (I mean road tractors, semis) manual transmissions often have double shafts, two sets of gears in contact simultaneously for any given ratio instead of just one. Double the torque capacity with the same gears. It's also partly why NASCAR stuck with 4 speed transmissions for so long, 4'th "gear" just directly mechanically locks the input to the output shaft, no moving teeth at all. With that done you can just beat on it all race long and not worry about wearing or breaking gear teeth.
@willvr4
@willvr4 Жыл бұрын
@@mfree80286 Gotcha. When I had my VR-4 tranny rebuilt, we swapped out the earlier year 18 spline output shaft/input sleeve of the transfer case (AWD) from the earlier years to the 25 spline for that exact reason. Less likely to shed teeth.

When Dodge reintroduced the Charger, it became a 4 door. They had always been 2 door (Dukes of Hazard). Part of the reason for this is that the big three US car makers try to sell to police departments (a HUGE market), and a 4 door is needed for police. So, the Charger became a 4 door and now you see them as police cars all over the USA. Chrysler has had a long history of selling a lot of police cars (Plymouth Fury, Dodge Diplomat, etc.), so not surprising that they reprised the Charger as a 4 door for police use.

Mercedes AMG and Brabus, BMW M-Series and Alpina are just the German's way of making "muscle cars" but never daring to call them that. These often handle better but for $30-50 grand more by which time you could have modified your Mustang, Camaro, or Challenger to handle much better. Corvette needs very little modification as they were developed at the Nurburgring in Germany by racing drivers. But don't let the German hype fool you. The Camaro ILE ZK1 right from the showroom can kick most of those Germans into the weeds on long, difficult curbs because it like the Corvette was developed at the Nurburgring.

All sweet, powerful cars and while not as powerful as some on this list, my heart beats for the Camaro.

So a cool fact about the mustang it is the only muscle car in us maker history that was never taken off the assembly line. All the others have gaps in manufacturing years.

My favorite is a Mustang GT500 or a 1970 Chevelle Super Sport _ when you can get the front tires off the ground from Power

The narrator of this video is off a decade, it was the 60's not 70's. It will be interesting how these cars will develop when they become electrified. Sadly it is the final year for the Dodge Charger and Challenge and the Hemi V8. Yes, the Ford Focus ST and RS were available in the U.S. In the 1970's Ford brought over the Capri from the UK/Germany and sold it here under the Mercury brand. That was the car I wanted in High School... and still would like one today.

We recently found out Chevrolet was discontinuing their cheaper sedans. Cruze, Impala and Malibu are all going away. Apparently its because Toyota produces the top sedans.

German luxury sports cars target a more upscale customer base and are priced as such. They are often all-wheel drive, and they can therefore generally outlaunch muscle cars.

It's pretty easy to control a car with a loose back end tbh. Except for mustangs for some reason, those things just spin out.

We have loads of manual cars over here. Many of us, like myself, learned or drive on a 5 speed. Not sure why you think we don’t have them.

Modern muscle cars, outside of Dodge, are proper handling cars as well. The Dodges aren't bad, but cars like the Mustang and Camaro are tested on, and meant to blitz, the Nurburgring in record times.

Oh yeah? I have a 2015 Nissan Vers does 0-60 MPH in 3.3 minutes! (Check my thumbnail for my "toy" 1967 Ford Galaxie Convertible). My 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible does the 1/4 mile in 0 seconds - It's so long, it's already there. 6.4 Litter, pass everything but a gas station.
