Crazy to see that except that 1961 Dutch GP there wasn't a single GP in the 20th century that was finished without DNF's. Most driver deaths also happened then. It really shows just how reliability was overlooked back then and the technology simply wasn't there. These days we have cars that are pretty damn fast and as safe as a 300km/h land jet can possibly be.

Minardi are the true legends. They were around for so long just doing their own thing. Winning this chart. Developing some great drivers in the process. And in the end after seasons at the end of the grid transforming into solid and more and more succesfull Torro Rosso and Alpha Tauri :)
@bloqk162 жыл бұрын
With Minardi being an also-ran team for so long, how in the world did they attract sponsors to bankroll the team for the seasons? And doing it for many seasons at that.

Jenson Button has the dubious distinction of being the only modern era world champion (post 1980) on the list. Brabham raced in the 1960s (fewer races, more DNFs). Nikita Crashandspin made the list in one year.

Three words to explain that phenomenon: Earth Dreams Honda. His stints at Benetton-Renault in 2001 and McLaren-Honda in 2015/16 didn't help either.

I don't know about Brabham, but Button had his fair share of shit cars during his career for sure, from the 2001 Benetton to the 2007/08 Earth Dreams Honda to the 2015/16 McLaren-Honda. And he was known for very rarely making driving mistakes, so he would always bring them to the finish line if they didn't break down.

I followed F1 racing back when Cooper competed. It was sad to see a one-time top-tiered F1 race car/team go upside down in a decade's time. Where their cars by the late 1960s looked like dinosaurs when compared to the other teams' entries designs.

I still remember their debut race for every season. 2010: they do the shake down in FP1 because the car only got ready a few days earlier, so slow they single handedly induce the FIA to reinstate the 107% rule 2011: they shed pieces of carbon fiber along the track in Q1, double DNQ 2012: you would expect they got better and so they did, they got a double DNQ without dropping pieces of the car everywhere
