All military tanks are propelled by a 1500 hp engine (Abrams, Leopard 2, Leclerq). So placing this monter powerpack onboard a light tracked vehicle, is mind bogling.
@GervasitorSpaceman676 жыл бұрын
I'm always amazed at H&H, because they just seem to find the limit, and tell it to go screw itself so they can get past it. First there was the Ripsaw, first tank to go over 100 km/h, but apparently it wasn't enough for them, so they created this beast. I mean, it'a a tank that does 100 km/h or more everywhere, it's the kind of machine that will overtake you, on the motorway, while it crosses the fields next to the road. This is a tank the does fucking wheelies ! The only problem with this is the fact that it already does everything beyond anyone's expectation, so it will be hard to make something that beats it, but I'm pretty sure H&H will find something. Cheers to you guys, as a student engineer, I look up to you as gods, and if I can do 10% of what you have done today, my career will look pretty good.

the entire demonstration is of its ability to fast track. thats the real innovation here. Tracks have low ground pressure, they can go anywhere.....except fast. thats what howe and howe pride themselves on. Otherwise, it would just be a bulldozer.
@Farmboy15445 жыл бұрын
Going fast on ice is a difficult af. Perhaps you should try it some time. Then you would know that this vehicle is getting loads of traction.
@tananam97825 жыл бұрын
@@Farmboy1544 "Going fast on ice is a difficult af." ...Except that it really isn't. There are many, many race events and styles dedicated specifically to going fast on ice. Note how much more stable and track-steady (that is, it travels in a straight line) the snowmobile is in comparison to the high power Ripsaw, which is having difficulty managing traction and is just all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a pretty cool, if rather limited in ability, piece of engineering. Where I live, it's far to wide for anything but winter river running or mountain riding above treeline. Given the size of the thing, the tracks seem too narrow to offer sufficient flotation for either on our soft and dry snow (often belying overflow or open leads on the rivers). The extreme width also limits mountain riding, perhaps paradoxically. It would be great fun to take along to Arctic Man, if it actually got somewhere at speed. However, I expect after a few seconds of a show of great power and noise... it would be at the bottom of a great big hole.
@Farmboy15445 жыл бұрын
@@tananam9782 So your point is what? You state the snow machine is going all over the place fighting for traction. Which proves my statement. Going fast on ice is difficult af. Why? Because the faster you go the more traction you require. Which will be true of any "track" surface. but especially true in the case of an ice track. This tracked vehicle seems to have plenty of traction on ice. Which of course is impressive.

Its great to see the next gen ripsaw come to life. Its Inspiring I want to see more. My question is at those speeds, what happens when a track fails. Thats alot of torque track material, flying around. It would be interesting to see the survivability test results. Like a end over end, flipover, a side rollover, verticle assent test, etc. Compared to jeep, sandrail etc. The Army picked up the Cheoweth sand rail during desert storm. Now today you dont even see Chenoweth. The mainpoint of sand rails, was how light they were. Thats just the opposite to what the army did to the machine. They made them heavy. Armament side carriers, 50 cal gun terret. Thats like over 600 lbs. Clearly they lost focus and didnt understand the plus side of light and might. A hill climb on a 75 degree slope dead stop, where dropping the hammer sends rooster tails a 100 feet behind you. Its low center of gravity, ground clearance and torque to weight ratio were its advantages. All that dissapeared after the Army got involved with the design. Dont let them ruin the Ripsaw Raptor...
