Holy cow, I remember going to Sega World when my family went to Sydney on holiday from Melbourne (a different Australian city). I think I was too young and too tired to attend the Sonic Live event. I remember only 2 things from the experience: 1: In the entryway there were statues of Sonic, Tails, Princess Sally and the Bug guy, who I at the time assumed was a Sonic character from the 1990s Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog show, a staple of my T.V. watching at that age. 2: There was a hole in the wall styled after a guillotine where an image of a blade would come down and a spooky sound would play, "decapitating" you. I was too scared to try it, despite my parents' urging! Also of note, the T.V. presenter at the end is quite famous in Australia and his name is seriously "Ernie Dingo", like something out of that somewhat-insensitive Simpsons episode.

Initially, I wondered if you'd mention the Popcorn machine, and then I thought "It can't be that obscure, it's referenced in Sonic Mania..." Also, I knew about that game where Sonic was a cop and you get ranked at the end _and I have no idea why._ _Where the fuck would I have seen gameplay for that?_
@smugshrug7 жыл бұрын
it is referenced in Sonic Mania but not many people know that it is a reference at all.
@Iinneus7 жыл бұрын
True, but I'd think that a freaking game built into a popcorn machine that was in one country would be _pretty_ obscure, but being referenced in a huge upcoming game would at least knock it from the "Most Obscure Ever" spot (assuming it was ever there in the first place).
@smugshrug7 жыл бұрын
in some way it qualifies because of how few people on earth have probably ever seen one , much less played the "game" on it.
@StepperBox7 жыл бұрын
The cop thing was new to me. There was an odd sort of continuity in the off panel for the archie comics (RIP) about sonic being a cop. I had no idea that is what they were referencing.
@ivaldi137 жыл бұрын
Pictures of SegaSonic Popcorn Shop, SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter, and Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car are found in Sonic Gems Collection gallery. You curiously listened to a video in which a player with a fully unlocked gallery demonstrated said gallery's contents, during which he explained what the hell those obscure "games" were. This video has been lost to A) the video being taken down on a copyright claim (most likely), B) the immense sea of KZbin clutter, C) the video being removed by the user for another reason, D) the video being removed as part of the uploader deleting his account, or E) a combination of the above. You can rest easy now. You're welcome. Bonus: The popcorn and cop games have been dumped for MAME, and SegaSonic Bros will be in the near future, making the space fighter one, incidentally one with a \story/ part just significant enough for a Sonic wiki to have a spoiler warning (which I find bloody hilarious), the hardest to obtain of the group. sonicretro.org/category/arcade-games/*

It was a stupid little 'Wheel of Fortune' type thing where there was a wheel with certain amounts on it and you had to spin it to win tickets or whatever. You know the sonic adventure box art where he's pointing? That was the art on the wheel. It used the ring sound effect and random background music for the sound. 4:21 Oh yeah I remember playing that game when I was like 7. The leapster was basically a portable console made for young kids to teach them math and letters and such. It came with a touch screen and stylus pen attached to a string and was pretty bulky. I thought the sonic game was kinda neat, but I felt I was a little old for it since it mostly just made you do simple addition math which I had already learned. It was also a stark contrast to Sonic Advance 2, which I had also played at the time, and I couldn't figure out why they felt so different to play.

Hey Cybershell, just wanted to say that i remember playing Sonic Waku Waku Patrol Car as a kid!! The weird thing is that i’m actually italian not japanese lol, basically i remember that me and my mom used to go to this mall where they used to sell house forniture and stuff. As soon as you entered the store you would see this car looking arcade all with japanese writing and a sonic with a police man outfit on, and i remember LITERALLY every time i used to go to that store i ran to the arcade and play it. It still bugs me to this day like how in the world did a japanese only arcade managed to arrive in sicily??? i’d love to like investigate further but unfortunately the store closed a really long time ago (i’m not kidding if i had the possibility i’d literally buy the arcade) Also i don’t really have any proof to support this story, besides my mom’s confirmation lol but i remember it very vividly, one of my favourite memories ever.

I still can't get over how there's actually a Sonic character named Cucky. *Cucky.* More over, Shadow, Blaze *& Knuckles.* I now have a new favorite Sonic character. But to me the most obscure Sonic game would be Sonic Battle. I remember playing it for the GBA, but I barely remember it other than the fact it had Shadow, and rarely anyone talks about it.

oh yeah, i remember that game. It was like a... weird 3D brawler except not really 3D. also there was a robot dude you could play as and it would learn different attacks from other characters and then you could customize your moves accordingly. I really liked it actually. Also there was story happening which somehow tied to the Sonic Advance games iirc?

Can't believe you forgot about Wacky Worlds, the children's Genesis game that contained animated Sonic and Tails sprites as stickers. Not often quoted as the first Sonic OC creator due to its ability to recolor any sprite in the game. Also had Toejam, Earl and Ecco. Luckily it's only been 7 years so you still have time to correct this omission by making a bonus video on it.

"You may not have noticed that clever RLM refrence that Cybershell put in the video...but your brain did!" That is an RLM refrence. Done by Mr. Plinket in one of his starwars reviews and has been quoted several times, as for the second portion: "EDIT: OMG I CAN'T FUCKING BREATH THAT'S SO FUCKING CLEVER AND FUNNY! :O" You might notice in the video that when Cyberchell said "but your brain did!" he didn't show a picture of a brain...he showed a picture of some lungs! Hence why I say "I can't fucking breath" and my excuse being because the joke was "clever and funny". I hope that makes sense now... :/

0:12 Ultimately, a game is a form of play with specifics shaping its composition. There are rules, victory conditions, and voluntary participation creating a nonessential form of activity in which people (and animals) participate out of challenge, for fun, or engagement and play-based assertive endeavors with fixed resolutions. The following are the details: * Regulated Components. Games are played with boundaries. These boundaries can be physical-a board, a court-or metaphysical-code, rules, and regulations. No matter what the boundary is, however, it exists as the threshold for engagement. * Game Mechanics and Constraints: Game mechanics are how you play the game, and constraints are what you don't. Knowing the constraints of what-strikes, for instance-can-and cannot-happen during gameplay is just as beneficial as knowing what can, because it establishes the anticipated limitations of engagement. * Overarching Goals: There is always an overarching goal in a game-even if it's a score, to defeat an enemy, to accomplish a task, or for the play of the game just for play. There can be multiple goals-but there is always an overarching one. * Nonessential Engagement: Games are nonessential. People don't have to engage with games-if someone is engaging with a game, it's because they want to-with the caveat that they're enjoying themselves and getting something of value from the interaction; otherwise, why would they waste their time? In addition, many games also include: * Challenge: Games frequently create challenges and dilemmas to be resolved through specific abilities, actions, and at times, randomness. Challenge increases enjoyment. * Multiple Players: Many games involve more than one person at a time for collaborative, competitive, or shared enjoyment. * Feedback: Games provide constant feedback. Players are aware of their location, the level of play, and their actions and what they may (or may not) mean in direct correlation to the established variables. This is essential for learning, progress, and enjoyment. The concept of "playing a game" is derived from so many places-from board and card games to video games and sports, role-playing games and more. Yet the structure, the control, the end goals, and the optional engagement are consistent across the board no matter which is selected. This general definition allows one to better understand what games are and the game experience as an important component of human society and culture.
