Just use a pack? If only the back country was flat with no tall grass.

Yep, I got rid of mine a long time ago I just use standard hiking poles that has a clip that snaps together quickly and I have a shooting platform

I use a Harris Bipod on practically every hunt for mule deer and elk. I believe there something like 10”-20”. Work great deployed sitting or prone and shooting in the folded position over rocks or a backpack.

I agree, unless you’re walking around with a guide who’s carrying those sticks in hand, they aren’t feasible.
@ImBetterThanYouHoe17 күн бұрын
They are tho, they make them now that they basically are a walking stick and can change the height at a pull of a lever

Killed lots of animals off of shooting sticks.

Same, much more versatile than a bipod.

I agree. I also only use trekking poles for packing out. It’s hard to shoot when you got shit in your hand and your gun strapped to your pack.

It's amazing what a game changer a 30 dollar piece of plastic clipped into some trekking poles is.

Do quick stick adapters actually make for a stable shooting platform?
@MiddleOutdoorsman3 ай бұрын
@@ericm425 Personally, I think so. Others may disagree. I took a cow elk a couple years ago at 460 yards using them. Maybe I just got lucky.

@@MiddleOutdoorsman I may have to give it a try

I have the quick stuck adaptor and use it at home all the time and love it. Major issue YOU yourself have to be stable for them to be affective.

They are what I use when hunting anywhere away from the truck. Just like anything, it takes some practice to figure them out.

I ALMOST bought those fancy telescoping trigger sticks from primos which were about 160$ at the time, for a Nov cow hunt, ended up taking a standing 100 yard broadside shot 😅
@trevorbirt86313 ай бұрын
The primos trigger stick is both my optics tripod and a shooting platform should I need it. The legs are so little to fuss with it’s actually pretty badass

That's fine advice for open country hunting. But when you're in the brush and timber a shooting stick is going to be your best friend when a tree isn't nearby.
@leonardogarcia2506Ай бұрын
Not if your shooting sticks also double as your trekking poles! I use my bog pods as a walking stick. Its sturdy enough to hold my weight, as I walk through the shale and scree along the canyon sides.

I'm a woods Hunter not a packing Hunter but my shooting stick is an old tree branch I found when I was a late teen (insert old joke). For me it just was the right height after modifications and I've been using it for years. I also have it as a walking stick

Wiser Precision Quick-StiX system on Leki poles for me!!! Readily available and super quick with some practice, especially with a front carry rifle. Definitely won't knock a good bipod. Just not ideal when carrying the rifle in the front.

A good knife is understandable but it’s like rifles you get what you pay for, they’ll all work though.

As a youth hunter my dad or I always carried the stick ready to go, being younger while starting to hunt I may have had to shoot over miscellaneous things. I love my shooting sticks, I do see your point though.

We've done remote non motorized mountain moose hunts wed either shoot off a tree or if no tree where we where calling cut a alder with a crotch in it . We harvested a 183" bull 57" wide last year in a 59 inch wide one in 2020. Never did break that 60" mile stone . hopefully get another chance before the body's to old

How are you going to shootin tall oak brush or with a youth hunter? I disagree. My granddaughter killed 2 bulls off of them. 12 year old girl shot her first bull at 375 yards and dropped him on the 1st shot. He was a big 6X6 that scored 320. 2nd bull she shot this past fall(2023) when she was 13. Killed a massive 6X8 that scored 374 3/8”. Shot him in under 3 seconds on a stalk. He was 286 yards. I made a different rest for my trigger sticks. I use the to glass off as I walk. I also carry a USMC pack with a Eberlestock Shooting Rust mounted to it. I have been hunting longer than you have been alive.
