There a first time for everything they say... today's a day like that again. We tried a bare tang knife for the first time. As we never understood why you'd buy a knife without handle scales why would we? Benchmade sent us one anyway and it sparked our curiosity. Can a knife without handle scales be good? What is it's use case? Today we found out with the benchmade Adamas Fixed blade in CPM Cru-Wear steel.

First of all these knives come with paracord and instructions on how to wrap it and make a paracord handle on the knife so maybe you should test it the way that it was intended and not just the way it comes in the box! Reason it isn't already tied onto the handle is because people like to do all different kinds of paracord wraps and styles also people often choose a different color paracord but just search "adamas handle wrap" and you will see even benchmade themselves put out a video showing how to do it lol boys will be boys I guess but a man would know to do this already prior to testing 😉

How do you like the sawtooth? I have that same model and have been thinking of selling it because it pretty much makes it impossible to baton wood. I cant think of an application I would use it for. My primary use of the knife would be field work and outdoor use. I love the handle because you can just customize it. I did a double paracord wrap and finished with some ranger bands and it's amazing. I just wish it had a plain spine.

Selecting a good knife is all about context & use. As a slim, lightweight & strong military knife it's a real winner. As a bushcraft style knife it's less than perfect. Want to drive fast buy a Ferrari; want to plough a field buy a tractor. Although, regardless, this video showed the quality of Cruwear!!
@stektirade

i mean its all about the steel. this knife is great for bushcraft. benchmades bushcrafter is s30v steel and bet it wouldnt hold its edge as well as this one.

I carry this knife on most of my hikes and backpacking trips because of its lightweight and high performance. Wrap the handle with paracord and its plenty comfortable for most tasks including light batoning. Just one word of caution when using this knife for batoning is the cerakote does come off so be careful using the knife for food prep afterwards. I don’t know if cerakote is harmful to ingest but it probably doesn’t taste great in your food. Also I wish the knife didn’t have such a long swedge. I understand it’s there for stabbing penetration but I don’t plan on getting into any knife fights and would prefer it had a normal flat 90 degree spine.
@CtFshd1812
@CtFshd1812 Жыл бұрын
I asked benchmade, cerakote is basically ceramic which is mostly inert, but its a good idea to minimise said ingestion by wiping the knife down

just like it was stated at the beginning of the video. This type of knife is great for keeping weight low, and being easy to carry while still having much of the capability of a full knife. the steel makes it tough w great edge holding. Its totally lacking as a bushcraft knife...like...it isnt one. CPM-Cru-wear is amazing stuff. I think an actual prybar made of it with an edge bevel would make a sufficient outdoor survival tool.

ok i love this episode. the vibe feels really great and the jokes are better as well. Also, i have a theory for why it didn't hurt batoning: the blade geometry. not the edge geometry, but rather the blade. near to the tip, there is a ridge, and that makes lots of friction with the wood, which makes the force from the baton get distributed across the blade rather than levered around where the blade meets the handle and shocking your hand. basically that ridge stops the blade from rotating as much and stops the handle from flying up to hit your hand

It’s an excellent backup in the backpack. One of the best. Thin, lightweight, tough, good edge retention, and it’s there if you need it without really knowing it’s there in your pack. As a primary on your belt, unless you’re on a morning hike through well worn trails, where a good folder might even be a better option, because the need for a knife is low, it’s less than optimal.

You need paracord, much like an MDV Plus One, to maximize its utility. The knife seems designed for CQB. Ask yourself whether you could draw it quickly with your left hand for immediate defense until it's safe to draw your pistol? Then ask yourself whether you need to drop the knife to put two hands on your pistol or whether the knife's flat design allows you to continue holding the knife while firing? It's a soldier's weapon.

I've wanted the adamas fixed and folder both in D2 for a while you should have gotten the one with back serrations I personally like that one more in fact I didn't even know this version without serrations existed both are nice but the back serrated edge is the better knife it needs the serrations just like the tops steel eagle looks much better with the full saw teeth great review but I'd like to suggest reviewing the Alaskan Bush camp knife in D2 I was gonna buy the Adamas fixed but I had never owned a knife in D2 before then at schools I saw the Alaskan Bush camp at first it just looked like a lower to medium knife that just had a nice real basic look to it and when the store guy handed it to me I saw D2 and I flipped cause the knife was only $95 exactly so I thought hell yes I'm gonna buy this not only was I gonna get it anyway but seeing it was D2 was great it raised it from a medium to a premium knife it's fantastic has a razor sharp edge straight out the box has held its edge great so I'm quite confident in D2 above it just as much as 154CM & S30V maybe even more it's a toss between 154CM & D2 but both are great seriously check it out the Alaskan knives are farely new company well since 2015 and the catalog booklet was very small they have like 10 -12 knives total the bush camp and the grey wolf or whatever it's called something wolf which is smaller than the bush camp are the only 2 bigger knives they have about the same size as the adamas fixed or the 119 buck knife about that size also I've seen the 119 fixed buck knife is now in S35VN with green micarta handle I live that knife but the 420HC isn't really great it's rust resistant and easy to sharpen but doesn't hold am edge very long takes a sharp edge but doesn't hold at all even without paper cut tests just feeling the edge here and there with my fingers seems to have dulled the edge but S35VN is great like D2 super sharp & holds the edge I have 1 S35VN knife in the zero tolerance sinkavinch satin silver blade & handle with the red screw pegs theres also a black coated blade with carbon fiber handles with neon green screw pegs both S35VN so to see it in the 119 fixed buck is incredible I always liked the shape style of that knife always wondered what it would be like if it was in a better higher quality super steel well now it is and I intend to get it someday hopefully you guys could review the 119 special fixed buck in S35VN take care.

a really sharp blade wont give you pain, blunt and serrated blades will... once i was taking off the husk from a green coconut , got distracted and slip my folded forged wakizashi into my left index finger base, it stopped at the bone, a big, deep cut, i only felt warmth in my hand, then cold , i raised my hand up, joined both lips of the wound , and made small superglue faux stitches, i swear by all thats holy, i didnt feel not a bit of pain... the blade was a daily sharpened one, mirror polished edge , razor like, 8000 grain japanese wetstone kept, cutting object, blade edge alloy so brittle it behaves like ceramic, with a softer high carbon folded forged tamahagane... gave my left hand a clean handsome scar .

Nobody is forced to buy the knife, you don't like the knife or the price, don't buy. How do you know that it is cheap to manufacture? CPM CruWear is not cheap, but it's not primary the cost of the steel, it is the working time, machine time and wearout of work equipment (CPM CruWear is very tough).

@@achimgeist5185 you don't have to listen to me I am just a triggered traditionalist who hates the Bear Grylls paracord tacticool look, and I do understand that although it doesn't cost much to produce a knife like this you are paying for the trust and development of the brand which I have no issue with.

@Dino DIY The concept oft the Benchmade Adamas Fixed is a full steel knife, light and slender, without handle scales. So where is the knife unfinished? Who is looking for a knife with handle scales, the Benchmade Adamas Fixed is not the kinife for you (the steel handle can easily wrapped with paracord for more grip...).

Because it's the handle that counts. Don't worry what steel it's made of, as long as it looks like Rambo would like it.

Rolexes and Ferraris?! You don;t need that :) You should be happy and thank your lucky stars that you live in such a great country... (I thought I heard you say Sweden? all those Nordic countries are good ones). From the pov of a US citizen, I would love to move to Sweden forever. All jokes aside, on the quality of life subject, Sweden has its sht straight. They are easily the smartest countries in the world... at the very least, as far as how they handle their social landscape. Individuals' happiness and quality of life ratings are consistently highest in the world and most there are extremely more just generally conscientious than in US. It's a whole different reality when you go there (I had only one visit there). America would be awesome... if it weren't for ~85% of humans who reside here.
