The non-aligned Japan was unironically my first ever playthrough of HOI4 back when I didn't even know how to frontline my soldiers to get them to the front faster. I wanted to recreate a timeline where Japan went with the Northern Expansion doctrine and I took a large amount of Soviet territory but at a bad time, so I ended up losing it + Manchuria and Korea, evacuating to the home islands. Even tho I stopped playing HOI4 for over a year now (the good ending) the playthrough will forever live in my mind rent free Great video dude 🧡

I just got the vanilla game and am loving my first play through with Japan! With their large starting navy and army it’s fun to take them in whichever direction I want. First thing I’ve done was to fabricate a war goal of conquest on the Dutch East Indies to get their oil and rubber. I’ve pretty much conquered the East Indies now and looking towards capitulating the Netherlands before setting my sights on French colonies in Asia. Manchuria I just pulled my troops out of. There aren’t any resources there and I’m not sure what the point is in holding it should Russia or China look to invade. Also not sure what the point would be in taking China as they don’t have much in the way of resources either. Maybe pops and factories?
