Keiko Fuji She was once a Japanese enka singer. After getting married, she moved to the United States and gave birth to Hikaru. So Hikaru was raised in America. I'm Japanese. Japan has a lot of great songs, but it's a shame that each song is so short in this video that it doesn't convey their appeal. Especially from the 1980s to the early 2000s, there were a lot of great songs, from city pop to bands. After AKB48 came on the scene, they started including handshake tickets as a bonus with their CDs, and one fan would buy hundreds of CDs, distorting the music rankings.
Lol, even the japanese comments in this video said they didnt accept this lists 😂

All artists on CD since 2003, except for 2004 and 2007, are idol groups. They offered a special offer of a 10-second handshake if you bought 10 or more CDs, so it happened that one fan bought more than 100. Therefore, since 2003, actual popularity and CD sales are often not accurately linked. This ranking is probably made based only on CD sales over a year, which allowed AKB to run wild.

In 2010s, music streaming service became common in Japan, and at that timing AKB48 started "fan meeting business". The system was designed to increase the probability of winning tickets to handshaking events according to the number of CDs purchased, and enthusiastic fans bought CDs by the thousand. As a result, the AKB48 group almost monopolized the CD sales ranking in the 2010s, but COVID has brought this to an end.

In Japan, since the 2000s, CDs have become less popular and distribution has taken center stage. But idols have continued to increase their CD sales by adding various benefits to their CDs that make it worthwhile for fans to buy multiple same CDs This ranking is based on the CD sales ranking, so the actual most popular is quite different from the most popular..
@user-bh9bc8rl7dАй бұрын
If this ranking is based on CD sales, then frankly you can't take the popularity of idol groups like AKB at face value. Their enthusiastic fans continue to buy a lot of their CDs to help them succeed. Or to get the lottery tickets that come with the CDs to meet them in person. This trend isn't seen much these days, but I feel that at one time the Japanese music industry was quite biased. And while the old media was making money off idols, a new music movement was developing on the Internet. Kenshi Yonezu and ado clearly blossomed as talents thanks to these new movements.

For sure the author of this video is giving too much priority to AKB48, no doubt they were very popular artists in the early 2010s, but since 2015 their sister groups Nogizaka46 and Keyakizaka46 have been much more popular. Besides, the content of this video is wrong now that King Gne, Mrs. GreenApple, and other band music are popular. There were many songs I did not know. At that time, Kenshi Yonezu got the most views on KZbin in Japan. However, AKB48 had a system where members voted for their election from the tickets in the CD, so one fan could buy 100-digit CDs😂

The Japanese music industry was quick to label internet music as a "hotbed of evil where illegal copying is rampant," and was slow to enter the download sales market. At the same time, CD sales continued to decline and the industry was on the verge of collapse. It's true that AKB48 was the savior of the music industry with their successful business of including handshake tickets and popularity poll tickets with their CDs, but there are naturally arguments for and against.

Fun tidbits about AKB48: Through the years, they never really had the same members. There would be some girls in the group for like a year or two and they would "graduate" out of it, but they kept replacing girls throughout their peak years, so the 48-member group in total had more like over 300 some odd members in total on and off. Some would be just "trainees" and never get to be officially in the group. They'd also be able to send out smaller numbers of the group to hold concerts in different arenas over time, so like they didn't necessarily need to send all 48 members of the cast to go sing at venues. And, it spawned other similar groups like SKE48, NMB48 and HKT48 and more, all basing from different regions in Japan, internationally in Mainland China, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines and Malaysia. But AKB48 still dominated for many many years, the other groups just not hitting as high as the originators of the concept. Me personally, I liked SKE48 more as they sang more "adult" songs, not so sugar-pop or cutesy. SKE48 were the more "sexy" group.

9:29 "What happened to AKB in 2020?" To elaborate, the first reason for their CD sales is that many fans bought multiple copies at once in order to get the ticket included in the theater version of the CD, which gave them the right to shake hands and talk with the girls directly.In their heyday, CDs would be sold with one lead song once every three months, and each time they would contain other songs in addition to the lead song, and several different jacket versions would be released, but all of these would be counted as sales of the lead song. However, this concept of "idols you can meet" was slashed by a pervert at a handshake event held somewhere in the country every weekend, and the group's popularity began to wane due to self-restraint. The original members who had led the group's popularity since its inception graduated, and Yasushi Akimoto, who was the source of the idea for AKB's concept and wrote the lyrics for all of their songs, began to support a rival group, which caused a decline in popularity. K-POP has recently expanded into the world by imitating the "AKB business practices" that were widespread in Japan from the 2010s, but its true strength has been revealed after it was found to be fraudulent by Billboard.

By the way, although both characters have the same name, Oda, the kanji used to describe the Oda in One Piece means "tail of a rice field," while the kanji used to describe the Oda in this singer's name means "small rice field."The 16th century Sengoku warlord Oda Nobunaga's "Oda" means "weaving rice fields".🧐

I believe these sales figures represent the ranking of the number of copies sold-records, tapes, CDs, and other major media of their respective eras. However, during the transition from CDs to digital music distribution, Japan’s music rankings became confused and were half-destroyed. The iPhone was released in 2007, and the Galaxy S in 2010. I remember that in Japan, more people started owning smartphones around 2011. Around that time, digital music distribution also began to take hold, meaning CD-based rankings were losing much of their significance. Nevertheless, Japan’s leading chart provider, Oricon, clung to physical media sales for a long time. Meanwhile, AKB was criticized for a “not fair” way of selling CDs by adding special incentives (such as the right to vote for one’s favorite idol). That’s why, personally, I believe that the 2010s-when AKB dominated-was an era in which the rankings themselves were in turmoil.
