When people visit me in the Catalina Foothills from out of state, the first thing I do is take them slowly up the Catalina Highway stopping fairly often for views and pics, then lunch at the Iron Door across from the ski area. No one can understand why this drive is not featured on the travel shows all the time. A huge hit, every time. Always take them out onto Windy Point to explore more views from far above Tucson.

We live at the foot of the Chiricahuas in Pearce. It is sooooo peaceful and beautiful here. We ride our horses out to the historic old Fort Bowie, up into the Cochise Stronghold, and through the Chiricahua Natl. Monument. The Apache history is felt strongly here - especially on horseback. Not to mention the "Old West" history. Johnny Ringo's grave is just 15 munutes from our ranch.

I'm surprised Sedona was even mentioned because I have been avoiding it like the plague. Sedona is very, very crowded. Everybody that goes to AZ goes to Sedona such that there is constant traffic congestion and the hiking trails are also full of people. You would have to go off the beaten path where few people know. Now, the Mogollon Rim is my favorite area to get away but you have to get away from the east (260) and west entrance (80) of the Rim Road where people tend to congregate. It is referred to as "The Rim" but many visitors and Arizonans think that's the Grand Canyon. Most people avoid dirt roads and that's what keeps many areas in AZ as nice as they are. Thanks for showing the Chiricahua mountains as that is one of the remaining places I haven't been to.

Where to find peace and quiet in AZ? I go to our cabin in Show Low, AZ, a bit hustly & bustly in downtown area due to 3 major highways intersecting there, but otherwise quiet and peaceful. I'd have bought my place up there much earlier on had I known just how nice it really is! My primary residence is in Lake Havasu, but it is getting old with overcrowding, skyrocketing property taxes and too many people from across the river in Commiefornya that come here and try to make it like the state they left. It's starting to remind me of L.A. now, not good. We won't get into the whole snowbird thing either........
@sunshineinarizona17263 жыл бұрын
Lake Havasu is a town that is made because of the people from Cali. I bought a home there in the 80's and prior to that my grandparents owned a vacation home on Smoke Tree. Not much of your RIPubulican Party is around anymore...except at the hospitals. Party on dawg.

@Mark Miller- I have asked some people about Show Low and have been told that there's a lot of meth-heads there. Have you found that to be true?
@MM_in_Havasu3 жыл бұрын
@@bluestarchild1969 I've not personally seen that myself, but every town has a few crappy elements. The meth-heads also know pretty much everyone is armed there, so it helps keep their illegal activities in check.

@@sunshineinarizona1726 get off this thread if you are going to be a troll. You don't like my comments? Don't read them. I came to AZ to escape the shitty way of life so increasingly prevalent in Commiefornya, and I don't need that idiocy here where I live. Yes, I own my home, no mortgage here.

82% of Arizona is public land. Lots of places open for exploring. About 42% of the state is federal land, the rest state land. Marijuana is illegal on all federal land. Park rangers have no problem busting you for possession in Arizona if on Federal land. I don't think pot is legal on Indian land as well. That is about 20% of the state. Be careful, and know your bounderies.
@hailstone14173 жыл бұрын
You have to be pretty damn unlucky to get busted for smoking pot on state or federal lands. There are very few rangers to patrol the hundreds of miles that's in their jurisdiction. In all my years of going into the back roads of this beautiful state I have NEVER encountered any rangers. However, stay away from Native lands because they will lock you up and confiscate everything you have if you do not have permission to be there. Consequences are really bad if you have marijuana, alcohol or weapons in your possession. Just don't be STUPID about it and you could enjoy your contraband all you want!
