I don't understand why Howie says "you have talent" and then proceeds to give the acts such harsh no's. Is talent not what the show is about?? Why is he trying to throw away clear talent just because he doesn't like something? He's such a put-down compared to all of the other judges, Simon included, and it's so sad to see sometimes

Because talent doesn't always equal success. I see people playing in bars all the time, they clearly have talent. But that doesn't mean they should be making albums or playing on the radio. It's more than just being "talented."

@Recap I think one can be objective. For example, I cannot stand the sound of Om Kolthoum, who is an Egyptian treasure of voice and music. I recognize she is extremely talented and has one of the most powerful singing voices I have ever heard, yet I cannot stand listening to her. It irritates me. So, one can recognize talent outside of one's taste. But, Howie is great. I'm sure he supported many artists who he would personally not listen to or watch. He just has his grinch days ahaha

As a retired entertainer and teacher/coach, it's imperative that an instructor, judge or anyone in a casting role, needs to be direct and at times brutally honest. The entertainment industry sees you only as a commodity, and from the walk-on to the household word, babys no one. That said, no one has ever walked away from an audition dais that I was on without getting some advice, many even signing up for my coaching. Louie's childish nonsense accomplishes nothing except to foreword people on national television that he's a complete fool.

I don't like the way Holly was spoken to. She might not have been right for the X factor, but, she should never have been spoken to like that. She deserved to be treated better. Same with Charlotte. Andrew had a good voice. He might have come across as awkward, but, he should have been called back in for another audition. Ant should have come back as a solo artist and given another audition. I personally think that only professional performing musicians should be judges. The reason for that is that they know what it takes to make it in the industry. They know if the performer, before them have the talent and the work ethic to make it in the music business. How they picked Howie is beyond me. I don't think Howie has ever done musical performance. Additionally I love what Dave Grohl said about these type of shows. If you are a garage band, and have a blast, and perform for the neighbourhood, and local gigs, who cares about musical competition. Music is art not a comptetion!
