I delivered three loads to NYC, the roads are meant for a horse an buggy, not a tractor with a 53’ trailer. On my third and last load there I have come to the conclusion “to hell with NYC and any surrounding areas.” I don’t care if the load is paying 20k, I am not going anywhere near that area. Great job, I know you got stressed out. But hey, you did it.👍👍

If you drove a 53' trailer through NYC local streets, you probably violated the law. The only time you can drive a 53' trailer is if you are going to JFK airport, or passing through to Long Island. All other loads must be broken down into shorter trailers before entering NYC.

@@thetexastrucker7934 actually yes, with a day cab,you would have more room to maneuver around, day cabs have less wheel base. Sleeper births have about a 238 inch wheel base, a day cab is a lot shorter. Easier to manage.

Good job Kev…. Been there myself. Had to deliver a load of cabbage to a oriental restaurant supply in Brooklyn. They had NO dock. He asked where he was supposed to park the truck, they said the straight truck just parks on the sidewalk 😮 so I proceed to maneuver around parked cars and fire hydrant and building awnings, street traffic and park it right where they said to put it. Cop said he never seen anybody do that before. Then I had to help unload bc the dock people were gone. The owner wanted me to come back next day to deliver and I told No…. This is my scheduled time and we’re delivering it. If I leave they will have to reschedule bc I wasn’t coming back. Haven’t been back to NYC since

😆Actually you can feel more confident about Crete. After they saw this video they called Kevin and told him that no driver should be put in that kind of situation and that they would be making changes. We don’t know what the changes are, but we think it’s another sign how they care for their drivers. And in over two years that was the only time he had a load to NYC with Crete. We think it’s a great, stable company. It’s still trucking, of course, so nothings perfect, but we are very happy here. You can check out their website for details. And let us know if you have any questions we can help with. Who do you drive for now?

Not necessarily, he would have probably been better off if he just listened to them and blindsided it. They deal with trucks coming in everyday so they know what they are talking about, the docks looked like they were slanted at a weird angle which is why he struggled so hard because he had to back in at such an awkward and angle with not much room to work with.

Box truck territory. My brother-in-law delivered boxes for Carolina Container with a 53' trailer for many years. His dispatcher apparently did not own a map and would send people on dumb routes including winding mountain roads and back roads not wide enough for couple horses to pass. Usually with only one or two pallets. Then they would have to run back to the shop and get another load.

I see the yellow line to Kevin’s left into the dock, idk why he was overturning way too much when it was there to guide him. Unless I’m seeing something else. One tip another KZbin trucker @AlexNino gives, and I think it actually works, is small movements, not over do it on the steering wheel. Otherwise you end up doing what Kevin was doing. Glad it all worked out, that’s what matters. 👍🏼

Hi, i drive for Crete on the Walmart team out of north Platte. When I did OTR I've been in those situations I have a couple tips for you to consider. When the guys at the dock say it's easier to blind side, believe them. They do this every day. And they don't want you to hit there stuff. Second back slowly and remember you can slide your tandems to change your pivot and turn radius. And get a second head set so your side kick can spot you and you can have solid communication and eliminate yelling to be heard over daily noise and your spotter can move around for better spotting and you don't lose contact even when they step out of sight. Just a couple of things I have done in the past. Always remember when your tandems are forward you have 12 feet of trailer just swinging ready to whip out whatever is around it. lol....

Been there, done that many times. One thing that would help is if you, as his passenger, would learn how to back him up from standing in front of his truck. In other words, you spot him, and he mirrors which way you tell him to turn the wheel. I know it sounds confusing, but when together and in a tight jam, you'd be surprised how well that works. Of course, this is assuming you (yourself) know how to back and understand angles.
