Howard is such a good character. I love how he is set up initially as the main antagonist, and now he’s one of the most human characters in the whole show. Wow, I just realized in the speech Jimmy gives Ms. Esposito how much of how he's thinking of Chuck comes out. He even says to her "you don't really matter all that much to them and that's okay..." And he even goes on to say "the winner takes it all!" which we had seen the flashback of him and Chuck singing in the beginning of the episode. Then he goes in his car and everything just comes apart for him in that moment (probably all the Chuck stuff he'd been bottling in). Such a good scene that took me a while to understand.

@la_scrittice_vita2 жыл бұрын
It's the stuff of tragedy that Kim is too caught up in her own reaction to read what's going on here. Howard has been playing "what if I had..." ever since Chuck's death and _this time_ goddamnit he's pulling the alarm. If she wasn't so busy being insulted, normally astute Kim would probably be able to identify someone not that far from the edge himself who is desperate not to lose another McGill.

@@charliekelly735 Almost as if both Chuck and Jimmy are three dimensional characters who are not always right or wrong. Chuck was right that Jimmy is like a loose cannon but his treatment of Jimmy was terrible. He didn’t do that to Jimmy for Jimmy to get better. Jimmy was wrong for many things but he tried to turn over a new leave and took care of Chuck for years and about “Jimmy corrupting Kim” crap, Kim decided to marry him herself albeit she had a big chance to dump him once and for all. Jimmy also trying to leave her after that as well because he knew that Chuck is right about him and he’s gonna ruin Kim but she didn’t let him go. When Howard says to Kim, "You know who really knew Jimmy? Chuck." - it's a visceral example of how perspective is everything. Howard's eventual perception of Jimmy was informed by Chuck's own insinuations about his brother's moral character. In one sense, Howard is not wrong in his statement that Chuck really knew Jimmy, but sometimes relationships with people we are close to become sour because those people DO know us from all the right and especially the wrong choices we have made.. However, the parts of Jimmy that Kim knows might be the parts that Jimmy himself wanted to present to her, not because he wanted to manipulate or deceive her but because that was the person that she made him want to be. Even though Kim knew about his Slippin' Jimmy days, it may have been her perception that while she thought of him as a misguided opportunist, he is still inherently Good and wanted to do the right thing if he could. In contrast, both Chuck and Howard could only believe he is inherently Bad. Every truth may appear differently depending on the lens through which we see it.. in other words, our previous experiences influence everything we do.
@LegacyFTW2 жыл бұрын
6:28 This bit makes my point well. Jimmy is certainly projecting his own experiences and frustrations in this monologue (which is obviously intentional by the writers) but it shows how his experiences have informed how he sees the world and the people in it who dangle the carrot inches out of reach and deny you because of their own biases, etc. He truly sees himself in this girl and he gives her some real, if cynical, advice straight from his own heart and honest perception of his experiences. Idk if this woman is ever referenced again at any point, but I hope we eventually do find out how successful she has become.

@@LegacyFTW But it sort of is. Chuck was blind to his own faults, and a head case and those things both make Chuck's opinion easy to discount and positioned Jimmy as a caregiver to him. That whole sequence where Werner escapes and Lalo is following Mike trying to find him is probably my favorite sequence of events from either show. That entire thing was just so masterfully done. That storyline of them building the lab was awesome.

The way she confronted Lalo and afterwards, in that scene in the season finale where she asks Jimmy if they should get married made me realize Kim is every man's dream wife

How can Werner be smart enough to build an underground lab in absolute secrecy while stupid enough to not realise that the owner is not a good guy and just go on an impromptu holiday.

I'm convinced the writing of these characters is what makes B&B and BCS. Mike, Howard, Nacho, Gus, Hector, Chuck, Kim and Lalo. All these "side characters" are some of the most interesting in the shows.

the little adjustment of the fryers in the first clip at the end says so much in with the little detail it provides

9:00 Were not seeing Saul Goodman, we’re not seeing Slippin’ Jimmy, we’re seeing James McGill. The same McGill that lost his brother, who drove himself into the ground, and is slightly beginning to accept some responsibility, much to his dismay.
