Love Japan in the winter - favorite time of the year to go there. Can't believe so many people complain about the cold - and if you are feeling cold, just step into any department store which has its heating set to the temperature of the sun.

Another superb video. Once again, my ¥2: 1) Driving is such a wonderful idea, as long as you're not picking up a car in Tokyo and trying to drive out from there. I've seen enough videos to know that one is just better off taking transit. One thing to note, though - the tolls. A lot of those major roads are toll roads, so keep that in mind if you want to drive. 2) Buses are okay sometimes. I thought the buses in Fukuoka were pretty good and saved me a lot of extra walking. However, I hear rumors that buses in Kyoto kind of suck because there is not enough of them. I guess I will find out in a few weeks...pray for me. 3) A brewery tour sounds like an excellent idea. I'm planning on going to the observation bar in the Asahi building in Tokyo this upcoming trip. Not the same thing, but it seems like a better idea than waiting in line for Skytree or Shibuya Sky. 4) I mean, I'd eat chicken sashimi. You only get one go around on this planet, you may as well try everything you can and soak up everything you can. 5) Love the Kotaro shots. Give him a few pets for me. 6) You may be a Viking incarnate (or バイキング...if you know what that means folks, you know I just made a bad joke), but I am a lizard living in the desert. Hence why I enjoy spending time in Western Japan. But winter is a good time to visit because the gaijin want to see the cherry blossoms and the fall colors. Just beware of New Years, a lot of stuff will be closed. Keep up the extraordinary work! So many great tips for travelers trying to navigate the stupidity of influencers online. I hope you did not end up too badly shaken up last night!

love this channel!! I actually am Japanese but grew up in Germany so I don't really know what to do. I have only visited my family, and haven't done much else and I am going on a small solo trip after visiting family! So it's nice hearing about it. Although the one with the pub or smth won't happen cuz I look Japanese haha

Thanks for watching! One would think so, but I've found that people are more interested in you out in the inaka (countryside). I had a whole table of old Japanese people trying out their English on me the first time I went out alone here lol

Man I swear every prefecture claims to be the worst drivers. My prefecture is the opposite of speeders though. All the old people drive 10km slower than the speed limit.

They do! You're lucky, in Okayama you get that typical asshole in a BMW being up your ass if you're less than 20km above the speed limit!

It would have been a VERY good idea to mention that Car Hire and Brewery tours are a bad mix in Japan due to the ZERO ALCOHOL law for drivers !! Make sure you have a designated driver !!

That is true! I'm from Norway where you lose your license immediately if you're above 0.00% and Japan is the same, forgot that many places in the world you can have 3 beers for lunch and drive back to the office!

Excellent advice all round! I found Tokyo excellent to travel around, also Osaka and Hiroshima. Naha was fun with the monorail too. But Kawaguchiko, Izu and Hakone using buses… how I wish I had a car! Even the Hakone ropeway was closed on the lake Ashi side, went at a bad time of year I guess. Next visit I’m off to Nagasaki and Kagoshima area for some peaceful living and maybe Iwaji if I have time, want to go on the ferry to Shodoshima too. Yes, a car will be essential, hopefully an old Toyota AE86…

Buses are ok sometimes but the majority of them suck. Especially in Kyoto as venuzomega said in a comment, as there are fewer buses and a raised price for non-residents! Get an old car, you can bring it on the Shodoshima ferry and enjoy the entire island!

are u sure drinking in public is okay in japan? as we were told by a few locals and convenience store owners that its allowed but frowned upon?

It is definitely ok and legal. Smaller towns might have unspoken local norms like the town I live in, where you get death stares if you walk around drinking, but sitting on a bench or outside a convenience store drinking is ok. In bigger cities, it is completely fine

Great advice and content again! I'm looking forward to a return journey, particular with my newly acquired skills gleaned from your channel !! And yes - solo travellers shouldn't be shy to get out and visit Izakaya's etc alone - I did and had a great time meeting friendly people and having them welcome me into their conversations. Just don't behave like a dick. But I reckon you're going to struggle to get Aussies driving over there with .00 BAC limits. Even the Y500 for a can out of the hotel vending machine is a bargain for us when out and about - and we don't even get the option of the 9% lemon fizzy sugar water for our young kids to get hammered on!

Thank you for the kind words! Solo traveling is extremely fun and highly recommended in Japan! The 0.00% limit is how it is in my own country, so I'm still kinda shellshocked so many people in various other countries are ok with driving after a few longnecks 😂

@@JustAnotherJapanChannel Where I live it's 0.05. That's about 3 standard drinks in the first hour and 1 per hour thereafter, but it's hard to know especially for us "plus sized models" until the police actually test you - then it may well be too late.

Especially in packed streets where people move quickly, I've seen no one except tourists walk with their face looking down at their phone. Might be some local rules, but that's to ensure that you don't bump into someone!

Comprehensible input is the way to go. Two channels I recommend are いろいろな日本語 and Comprehensible Japanese.
